Natal could be the way forward and change gaming forever. Who really knows until it comes to market and what the practical applications are for gaming. Personally, I'm more interested in 3-D gaming with head tracking (perspective changing) than I am motion control gaming and that goes for Nintendo, Sony & MS's motion devices. I just think for the most part it's not all that exciting ... not yet anyway and maybe MS or SOny can change that. The Wii has left me pessimistic when it comes to any kind of motion gaming. It's true.

Natal could be used for head-tracking, I think. There was a proof-of-concept a while back that showed that with two Wiimotes, one could have head-tracking on the Wii, as well. I wonder if its possible with the "Arc" controllers.

Sony also showed proof of concept but it only used the eye toy camera. The problem will be that it uses even more processing if used in conjunction with motion gaming.

who cares how it works, in the end, its a camera you stand in front of for input. that doesn't make it any more "fun" or "useful". eyetoy failed, six axis failed, natal will fail.

Take smash brothers for example, it has the option for every controller input, but everyone i know uses a gcn controller.

Natal represents a huge risk for Microsoft. The longer it takes to make it market, the higher the expectations will be. We've seen limited demos to date, and I think everyone has an idea of what they expect from Natal when it is finally available.

It's interesting that Natal is making Microsoft employees loose sleep. I would think that it would be making Nintendo or Sony a little nervous, because this could be a game changer.

Meanwhile Sony has something brewing with "Arc"

By the end of the year we'll either be these being saying these new interfaces are pretty cool or they're the hugest disappointment we've seen since the Power Glove.

I am not being a fanboy with this comment...

What risks in first party development has Sony done?

--Little Big Planet. Had I gotten a demo I would have green lit this one too but I can concede it might seem risky.
--Arc (Motion Controller). This really seems like just improving Nintendo's idea.
--Home? Not when you consider they were thinking of second life and how to capture that type of audience and their money.
--Flower? Came from a developer that had already "proved" themselves and probably did't cost that much to make.
--PSN games... Pixel junk series... Fat Princess. Downloadable games that probably didn't cost that much to make so what's the real risk?

Other first party stuff, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, Rachet and Clank series, Infamous, are all just iterations on previous stuff or improving on other concepts seen in the industry.

I'm not saying MS has taken any real risk beyond Natal. I just think that what Sony has doesn't seem that risky either.

Now Blu-Ray.... that was a risky decision.

Launching a $600 console was pretty risky.
