Bungie says Halo: Reach is like Titanic

It's got Kate Winslet? It's on a boat? It features just enough Billy Zane involvement? No, no, we can only dream. Bungie makes the analogy between Halo: Reach and James Cameron's disaster film because you know how it ends before it even begins. "Reach is going to fall and 700 million people are going to perish as a result," said Bungie creative director Marcus Lehto in a new interview with Edge. Dude, spoiler alert!

How the developer is handling the seeming contradiction between the reward of "beating" the game and experiencing the fall of Reach is the meat of the Edge interview. It's a fine read if you want to know more about the next Halo game than just how many guns you'll be able to fire at the same time. (Seven, if you must know. Yeah, we were confused too.)

It's funny, when the YouTube video popped open I suddenly thought "Titanic Theme, how does that go again?" and my brain responded by playing the Morrowind theme.

Then suddenly I gaped in shock at what I just discovered.

They could totally use the same song. It's not like that song wouldn't exist in the year 2552! it would just be an Extreme Oldie.

I could see a female A.I. lip syncing while playing that song over a ships speakers while it's plummeting to the surface.

you do realise most halo fans only went through the campaign on Halo 3 and ODST for achievables right? 90% of halo fans are halo fans for the multiplayer, nothing more.

It sickens me, considering how good the story is (when you read the books as well, anyway)

It makes me sad to upvote a Bradwart comment, but he's right. The books pretty much explain the entire Reach debacle.

They're great books, actually, and I didn't really enjoy the games that much.

Might get downvoted for this...but I could never get into Halo's story. Master Chief, (while having the ability to kick ass) just never felt like a real character to me. I'll admit I barely gave the story a chance...but it just never kept me interested. But then again, I'm just not really a Halo fan in the first place. I believe Forge and Custom Games are amazing, but excuse me for disliking the 12-year old, t-bagging, rocket spamming jerkoffs online in Halo. You're either really good at halo. Or suck.

Just my opinion.

The Halo story isn't really in the games, it's in the books. Master Chief is never called Master Chief, he's John, John-117, etc, and he has character. There's narrative that's actually imaginative and interesting in the books, whereas the games hardly scratch the surface of the real Halo story.

So it's going to run into an iceberg and sink like a stone, killing most of the passengers?

It's going to grab onto the floating debris of previous games and then do the right thing by letting go and sinking into oblivion?

He's also awesome in The Departed, The Aviator, Body of Lies and, yes, Growing Pains.

Blood Diamond too. All in all DiCaprio is one of the best actors around in my opinion.

Well, everyone knew how Crisis Core would end and it is praised as one of the best games of '08, not to mention that the ending itself is considered both shocking and emotional... Sure, there are always haters, but either FFVII fanboys (doesn't count) and former-FFVII fanboys (that sure counts) enjoyed it... Combined, they must account for, like, 50% of the ("hardcore") gaming community... Give it or take it...
