Crate Entertainment is a company made up of the old Iron Lore team that worked on Titan Quest, arguably the most popular of the Diablo clones to come out in the past few years. Crate has finally announced its latest project, and it's Grim Dawn, another action RPG (it even namedrops Diablo in the description) set in the world of Cairn, where two forces have "decimated human civiliation" and are "warping the very fabric of reality." Sounds appropriately epic, though as long as there's plenty of loot, we're not too bothered.
Five classes? Check. Skill trees? Check. A crafting system and co-op multiplayer? Check and check. Considering that even the same Titan Quest engine and toolset are being used, Grim Dawn doesn't sound too far off the hack-and-slash loot-hunting reservation. But that's not a bad thing -- we'll have to see if it plans to mix up the tried-and-true formula as it moves toward a planned digital release in 2011.

I've never found Titan Quest anywhere near as fun as Diablo was to me. Shame really, I really wanted to get into Titan Quest but couldn't. Hopefully this and D3 will make me content as did D2 did.

Me on the other hand. I've put in at least 350 hours into that game finishing it several times with multiple classes. I love ever piece of that game and its at least as addictive to me as Diablo 2. Everything about the game is A+, mainly with the expansion.

Titan Quest was an excellent game that was marred by how linear it was. Diablo 2 was also pretty linear, but it was chocked full of HUGE OPEN AREAS with multiple zone lines. Titan Quest was mostly small roads, and valleys that went from point a->b with no real options to c, d, or e unless it was a tiny cave or something. WIth Diablo 2, you could accidentally wander into areas way ahead of the game and die horribly, which make it so much more fun and replayable.
No real dig at Titan Quest, it was just too linear for me to really put as many hours into it as I did Diablo 2. The items weren't as hot, either.
I'll still try this new one, though. I love the genre regardless. Well, unless it comes out after Diablo3, which means I'll be pretty busy for the next 5 years after, and I'll pick this up on Steam for $5 like I did Titan Quest.

I liked Sacred the most of the Diablo-clones :<
This game sounds like some sort of Diablo/STALKER cross-over.
Stay awhile and listen, stalker, my informations may well have be of use to you.

This is exciting to me. IMO, TQ is the pinnacle of what smaller dev teams are capable of--large, fully fleshed out, technically flawless 'niche' games.
I've seen and played too many games by smaller dev teams that failed because the devs tried to do too much instead of polishing the tar out of something smaller. Two World, Gothic 3, and Divinity 2 all come to mind. Just imagine the games they could have made if they had focused their efforts like Iron Lore did.
I'll be keeping an eye on Grim Dawn . . .
