I don't think this man's opinion in any way shape or form is an invitation to someone calling his very existence a piece of excrement.
So what he doesn't like JRPG's. Stop being so defensive. JRPG's are like furry conventions now, ie not the mainstream. At least furries know their place and expect a little ridicule and sneer about their hobby.Stop acting like people are trying to tear down an established institution of domination, your niche now.

Does this mean the Xbox 360 will be superior than the PS3 version?

It's a "serious" Squenix game. Of course they're going to be self-absorbed.

Not trying to sound offensive, but can you name an actor who could make those lines sound good? I'm of the feeling that it's not bad acting but rather the lines themselves that make it sound unnatural. In western drama, no one would normally say material like that, so it comes off as bizarre and "badly acted" to our ears. I believe that, while saying stuff like this sounds equally unrealistic in Japanese (talk in Japanese to a native speaker, and you'll notice your conversation sounds nothing like what you might hear in anime), it is an accepted part of Japanese dramatic form and therefore does not evoke reactions of "that sounds awful."
I tried to imagine the monologue from this trailer being spoken by Patrick Stewart, generally accepted to be quite a good actor, and I did not find it any more convincing than what this actor did with it. All I got was images of the Picard family vineyard . . . followed by "The line must be drawn HERE!"

Oh look, more anti-Japan bias based on absolutely nothing from Joystiq. Big surprise.
I like some of the monster design, I really like the idea of the main hero being an older guy just out to save his daughter. Not some young guy trying to save the princess/save the world and end happily ever after.
I need to see a LOT more gameplay wise before I can make any call on this as to whether it will be good or bad. We just know barely anything about it right now. I don't think too much else can be drawn from it just yet. Voice-acting seems weak but plenty of time to fix that (or just have an option for original audio track).

Haha I thought the trailer was pretty cool.. Although it might show a lil cultural misalignment (ex. "that ain't good" line lol) but the dude just snatched a huge monster's arm off. That's pretty impressive in my book.

In Nier's defense, the monster's arm did start to grow back. I'd definitely that is not a good thing.

Oh yeah, this IS the next great story from SE.

That would be the Japanese PS3 version, NieR: Replicant. The Japanese 360 version (NieR: Gestalt) is the same as what we're getting on both consoles.

I think it looks pretty cool. The brief glimpses of some of the areas intrigued me. Plus, some of Square Enix's lesser received games *coughprojectsylpheedcough* are some of my favorites, so I won't abandon hope just yet.
Although, he's got to be the ugliest main character since Niko Bellic.

Well, that's cos a select few always bitch about how SE's characters are all young and pretty, so they made this character the other extreme.
Funny thing is, those people who bitch tend to be the sort of people who don't buy Japanese games, making this move completely pointless, because the game is still Japanese, and thus inferior in their eyes.

I know, right? I'll stick to my intelligent and mature Western RPGs.
Right now I'm trying to save the world from rampaging dragons while dealing with an evil cult.
Which WRPG am I talking about? Have fun trying to guess!

Ugh that video contained pretty much everything I hate about japanese games, and why they just don't get it when it comes making current gen games. It was really painful going from that unbelievable ME2 trailer posted a few hours ago....to this crap.

"Get it"? "Current gen games"? Look, I can understand not caring for a certain style or approach, but what does that have to do with "getting it." It's you who doesn't "get it" that not everything will appeal to everyone. Everyone has a different tastes.

Wait...if JRPGs are so freaking awesome, then why is the gaming market for them shrinking like their androgynous protagonists' collective nutsacks?

Even assuming their market were indeed shrinking, popularity of a product has nothing to do with the quality of that product.
Otherwise, Madden NFL is one of the best games and franchises ever, Avatar is unarguably one of the best movies ever made, and Modern Warfare 2 is the pinnacle of all shooters. In fact, you'd even have to argue FF7 (one of your hated JRPGs) as a fantastically great game, because it was a commercial success.
Arguments, obviously, could be made against all those statements.

I love people are more focused with the appearance of the main male character than the people that actually play the games and enjoy them. It's always funny how they turn it into some sort of hairy bulging chest beating contest riddled with homosexual undertones while putting so much emphasis on how much they dislike the character because it's "gay"/"androgynous". Always some sort of thought or comment on their genitals and amount of male hair, always making this point or bringing it up even when there's no reason to.
It's like they're seeing their soul in a mirror and shrieking as their little forced social bubble bursts or something.
Also, please, guys, can you knock it off with the whole "I'm going to assert an asinine and aggressive blanket statement then immediately call anyone that disagrees with me a "fanboy" in an attempt to dodge blame" shit?
It's like you're aware how annoying you are, yet allow yourself to be so. You call anyone that disagrees with you a "fanboy" to remove their faces and associate them to a single group which you can easily marginalize while attempting to align your own opinion with a nebulous implied "majority" as if you're some sort of avatar of all that is "normal and objectively correct".
It gives me a headache. You have just as stupid of an opinion as you allow them to have.

And you didn't answer the question.
If JRPGs are so good why is their market shrinking?

What this guy fails to mention too is that most of the people that turn to anime, or Japanese stuff as their primary and preferred source of entertainment do it out of a rebellious need to go against the grain. They do it to thumb their nose at the jocks, or because western tastes offend their superior sensibilities.
They perceive western tastes as threatening and choose the more docile, "artsy", effeminate, pretty genre because they refuse to pound their manhood on their chest. Its very similar to the goth, and emo subculture.

You seem far too consistent for it to be made in jest.
"If JRPGs are so good why is their market shrinking?"
Don't know, don't care. Probably has to do with the fact there's been a lot of solid WRPGs lately and not many solid JRPGs, with even the long standing pillars not doing much to impress. These things ebb and flow.
@Leobebes
You continually make ridiculous blanket statements and assert them as truth like that. It's so weird how you categorize people while being so near sighted as to not see you categorize yourself.
It's like you find it so insulting someone could like something you don't, while you're essentially doing the exact same thing they are - liking something they don't. Your own mentality reflected in how you perceive them.
You're basically admitting both you and the group you describe are damn fools, and I'd have to agree there.

That's an overgeneralization that could apply to some people, but so could things in the western world. People who are overzealously into comic books, Dungeons and Dragons, or even WRPGs can all be described in the EXACT same way you described the overzealous Japanese fans. I think you are confusing the pitfalls of ALL overzealous fans to be specific to overzealous Japanese fans.
For example, I do enjoy anime and japanese drama. I also enjoy some western dramas. I was a Japanese language and anthropology major, but I live most of my time in the United States (I do make frequent trips or long stays back to Japan though). I don't think I'm a social outcast just because I enjoy things like anime and manga anymore than I think somebody who reads comics are a social outcast. In fact, in Japan reading manga (much as some comics can be in the west) is very common for people of all different kinds of backgrounds.
To make this relevant to the post, I don't think anyone can really be making broad sweeping generalizations about a game they have seen maybe 20 seconds of, even a TGS demo wouldn't give you a very good look at it. Will have to wait til it gets nearer to release.

Arent those traits of all hack n slash games? I don't really get the draw of hack and slash games, the only real thing I like about them is the character progression, well, to every man his own, right?

In a world where old men give a sh!t about your problems....far in the future comes the next great epic story from Square Enix. Where the past is a shadow of cohesive plot where the goal becomes convoluted with ripping off giant monsters to save a girl, while your thumb becomes numb from mashing......Because a few hours ago you made some vow or something and now you're just generally pissed and want to kill everything you see........Neir....far.....where-ever you are, you're going to f#cking slice their heads open while their hearts go on and on.

very true. As evidenced by The popularity of Wii shovelware, and the failure of great games like Zack & Wiki or Beyond Good & Evil to sell.
As for Final Fantasy 7 it was a great game. The sad thing is, while the graphics have gotten better, the basic formula for JRPGs hasn't Of course there are exceptions, but fro the most part, the formula remains the same.
As for your other point, your merely taking one example and inflating it to the extreme and using that as an argument. So, I'm not sure what your point is.
For the record, I don't hate JRPGs...I just wish they would make NEW ones.
