Rockstar: LA Noire getting cover story reveal next month
42
In the very same official Q&A where it finally responded to the complaints of the Rockstar Spouses, Rockstar brings up an old friend we haven't heard from in a while: L.A. Noire, the "innovative," possibly console-based, "Ellroy-esque" game that's been in development almost since its noir inspired Los Angeles setting was current. It says that we'll finally get a good look at the game and why it's supposed to be so great as soon as "next month" courtesy of "a big cover story." What magazine? That's still a hush hush, on-the-QT and off the record secret.
But said cover story (Time? Popular Science? Dog Fancy?) will reportedly contain information about why both the look and "the amazing new technology" of the game are worth the wait. We would say not to hold your breath, but everyone still holding their breath for LA Noire turned blue and passed out about a year ago. Still, we're interested, so we'll keep eyes peeled on the magazine stands next month.

So, they had to clear the air in order to self-promote!
It all makes sense now.

So, with everyone knowing of the alleged mistreatment of their employees, they still went ahead to announce more games, which will lead to further suffering?

So... I thought this was a PS3 exclusive? What's the deal with the Xbox tags? I'm confused.

Apparently its no longer exclusive, or so one of the devs made it seem a while back, so since then, we've been in this loop of is it or isn't it? Chances are, it is by now, especially considering they have the Agent exclusive to PS3, otherwise PS3 would have 2 exclusives from Rockstar, something I seriously doubt Micro would let slip through thier fingers.

Yeah, LA Noire is still considered as a PS3 exclusive. I haven't seen anything about it being on any other platform. Last article I remember about LA Noire was the rumor about the game being canned.
It's been a while since that CG video was released for this game but anything that involves R* will most likely be great. I can't wait for info on LA Noire and Agent.
By the way, I hope RDR does well. I looking forward to playing it. If the working conditions like they was reporting are true, that sucks. I hope whatever happens to R* SD, ends well for everbody.

"We know that it continues to be an often-asked question – and believe us, we understand the frustration of PS3 owners like yourself who haven’t been able to play any of our most recent releases. All we can say is that we at Rockstar promise to be very good to you with our releases in 2010. Please stay with us and stay tuned!"
that was the most important thing to me from that interview. that was a response to a question asking about gay tony for PS3 owners btw...

I get a feeling that this is going to be heavily story based, as Rockstar do know how to tell a good story. I think it might be kinda like Heavy Rain. I am also curious to see what Agent is all about.

Noir refers to a lighting style, it doesn't mean anything to do with story necessarily. So yes it will be like a 40s/50s ish crime drama film inspired game but that doesn't mean it would need to be story based. Many games based on film styles have little or shit story elements. But hey, you can't expect a guy who calls himself Jason Statham to know much about film, you just go and watch Crank again ;)

"Ellroy-esque"
I'm a big fan of James Ellroy, so I guess I should expect L.A. Noire to be extremely dark and not shy away from some of the taboo subjects of the time.

I hope it isnt. i'm sick of shooting people in the face and then running over their face and being shot in the face by police and stuffing my face with hotdogs to save my face.

We have pretty much one gaming magazine that isn't completely dead and continually is the platform to make announcements in since it floods Gamestops and that's Game Informer.

So is has this game been confirmed as to what systems it will be on? I heard rumors it was going muiltiplatform but I'm not sure if those were ever confirmed or what.
Personally, seeing how this was announced as PS3 exclusive initially, I would like to see it remain that way.

Good to hear something on the game. Next on the list, hear something on Frontiers The Outsider. Then I'll be happy/happier.

Is this game really going to be a PS3 exclusive?. I was with the assumption that it became multi-platform a while back. Either way, the game sounds interesting, but does this mean that Rockstar is making two PS3 exclusive titles?.

I'm pulling for GamePro to get the cover reveal. Anyone seen the redesign John Davidson has done on the mag? Frickin sweet.

I'm actually hoping the game will include a number of snarky/dissing references to San Diego.
Seeing as how it's in a nearby city and all.

After 6 years it will be nice to actually see something solid regarding this game. It's been so long now I was starting to think this would be another Duke Nukem fiasco to be honest

Yea. This game would've been great when the whole Noir thing was retro-fabulous, now it just looks like a big distraction:
"Pay no attention to the sweatshop behind the curtain."
I guess we can look forward to the big Agent reveal in a few more years when Rockstar is accused of electronically training assassins to kill President Bruce Willis.

What, it still has to be trendy to be great? For that matter, when was noir trendy?
Reply
Posted: Jan 22nd 2010 1:27PM (Unverified) said
No but it should be trendy if they want it to sell well.
Noir became cool again around the mid 90s and held on 'till about 2002.

Is it really a big question as to what magazine will have the front cover? You already established what The Official PS Magazine will have as the cover story so clearly everyone needs to go and subscribe to Game Informer if they're really that interested.
