$5 a game, $13 for the full pack, oh christ.

VALVE IS THE ULTIMATE TEMPTRESS.

I'm still playing around with the Dawn of War pack I got during Christmas.

Valve just makes me want to own things, even though I know I will never play them. Arg!

That's what happened to me when I bought STALKER for $2. I have yet to play it, but I couldn't resist!

I fail to see how PC gaming is dying when Steam seems to be siphoning all of the content my wallet with these deals

So, for someone who is a fan of Starcraft and Warcraft, how would Company of Heroes be? I feel like I need to widen my RTS tastes.

It's pretty different.

The unit's attacks can miss for instance when you issue an attack command.

Well, that can happen in Starcraft in certain situations and does happen in Warcraft 3. But in terms of a general recommendation, are the CoH games good for people who like Starcraft/Warcraft? I guess I'll have to check out a review or something.

Okay, first of all, let me start by saying that as a huge Starcraft/Warcraft fan, even though this game is totally different, it's by far my favorite pc game made in the past 10 years.

Now in terms of gameplay, this is basically more of an action-rts: you never have many units, so what you do have plays a much larger role in your tactics. Things like cover and flanking come into effect during the game. Instead of there being a mine like in the Craft games, instead each part of the map is broken into sectors and controlling a certain sector brings in a certain resource.

The game is very cinematic and it's just as fun to watch as it is to play. Realistic physics are always at play, and thus units won't be doing things like shooting through walls and hitting targets on the other side. Finally, the campaign is just amazing. There's tons of variety in the armies you play as and the missions you take on. The very first mission of the game has you storming Normandy beach, and it is a thing to behold.

So yeah, 12 dollars for this game is an absolute steal. I'm not sure a better RTS exists, controversial as that may sound. I love love love this game.

I remember when i first played this game (potential spoiler alert ahead), I was playing the mission where you need to defend a big house or something, and artillery is coming down... my god... maybe it was something i smoked, but damn... i felt like I was on the battlefield, , my heart was pounding, i was yelling at my troops on the screen, it was one of the most immersive strategy games i ever played.

i think i'll be getting this package after work today... WOW.

This game is a madman in terms of how far you can crank up the graphics, right up there with Crysis. I put everything on ultra, 8x aa, 1920x1080 resolution, and was getting a very stuttery 40 fps framerate. That's with an i7 quad processor, crossfire radeon hd 5k cards, and 6gb of RAM. It's a damn beast.

Whattt? My 3.2 Q6600 and 275 can run it at 60 Solid, at all times. Could be an ATI GPU issue I guess.

FYI: If you want the full multiplayer experience, you only need Tales of Valor ($5). Getting the other two games will not offer any additional multiplayer content.

Be aware that there is a ton of information for the multiplayer game mechancis found only on websites/FAQs online. The game itself is very poor when it comes to telling you about various aspects of the game, unit stats, and so forth.

That said, I'd recommend getting the other games with Tales of Valor. Both this and DoW can be learned pretty well by just playing the campaigns.

They don't force you through tutorials, and just instead slowly introduce unit arch-types to you as you get through the campaign and give you enough breathing time to play around a bit and get a better understanding of the value of each of the units and how you should approach things.

Then you go multiplayer with this knowledge, play x50 faster, and it's sweetness.
