What does it matter who donated more?

Any amount is useful.

Well with that same rational why bring it up at all?

Seems odd to give SONY Online a public pat on the back above all the other developers whos contributed.

a tool/fanboy always turns skittles into shit, in this case a simple donation into platform war.. come on now, these people dont care who donated the most. Do you really think they know the difference between those two companies, and what they each donated? Go ask them, they'll probably slap your face off.

I find it ironic considering your name and how un-useful you really are.

lol, t00l brings up political correctness. Don't you think its important to donate, fullstop? What does it matter how much was donated?

Your entirely missing the point, the joystiq masses are obviously quite fickle...

I never said there was anything wrong with Sony online's donation, I actualy said it was grand; however much you can afford to give is fine by me.

^ That much is fucking obvious, we all know this, why people feel the need to jump in acting smart with things like "its not a competition", "That's $25,000 the relief fund didn't have before", well duh, all your doing is repeating all the worn fund raising slogans we all know, your not clever or enlightened, just the obvious brigade desperatly looking approval..... look at me sticking up for the little man.... BECAUSE THEY CAN'T STICK UP FOR THEMSLVES! In their hour of need....

Funny as well, cause I didnt imply anything of the sort, I guess the saddos will try their best to project villianry upon someone else just to look righteous.

My initial comment aimed to slag off Joystiq, who just missed out on Bungie's announcement when they where clearly looking for a big figure donation to report. I actually think its in poor taste to highlight any company over another when it comes to donations. The games industry as a whole is doing very well for raising funds, I just cant see why Sony Online should be individually highlighted, its not exactly what I'd call good measured journalism.... maybe thats because its JUST a blog but meh.

Or maybe because it's made up of MMO funding transactions that we the gamers helped raise by playing those specific games. Which is why they were highlighted, other companies just handed out thier cash, SOE handed out raised cash. So why can't it be mentioned? Even more to the point, again, why does it matter how much was raised and donated? Even more to the point, why do you care? As long as there is money raised for the tragedy to help them or at least someone, thats all that matters, I seriously doubt the people in Haiti are sitting there thinking, "Damn, I've just gone through all this, and all SOE can give me is a measly $25,000?".

If anything, its not even just money they need, its physical help to rebuild and regain what was lost, money only goes so far. Next you'll be saying that the devs should go over and help.

Not bad for that amount of time. I know Bungie announced tonight they broke the 100k mark for the donations.

And people say gamers are snobs!

First, hell no.

Second, I don't think AOL has that kind of cash. The business of ripping off dial-up customers isn't what it once was (sorry Joystiq!).

I'll donate $12,000,000 if one of the chicks who read this site will have sex with me.

What do you mean I don't really have $12m dollars? Shh! Don't tell them that! They aren't supposed to know that yet! Shit.

Well, guess I could wait for my tax return and spend that at the titty bar. :'( What's a single gamer to do?

Activision Blizzard should do something with World of Warcraft, get some sort of special mount if you donate.

Do it Kotick, if you have a soul.

Didn't Activision Blizzard just donate a million or so recently?

I seem to recall something along those lines just after MW2 came out.

First of all, why complain that something is too low unless you are willing to top it? Second of all, when did raising money for Haiti become a competition?

"Ohh, look at me, I donated £1 more then you, that makes me more of a giving and generous person, I will be loved and adored more". When the world sees disasters as a competition rather then a serious situation, that's when you know humaity is in trouble.

BURNED.

PS: and this Bungie vs SOE is not about who has a bigger penis . They are doing it to help others, do you really think they care what you fanboys think ? Nah they got bigger fish to fry, sorry to burst your bubble but your heroes over at Bungie don't give a flying shit if you think more or less of them just because they donated more.

To be fair, it was half SONY, half the players, since $10 was donated for every $5 item. If I read the article right.

Sony Online Entertainment - the subsidiary of Sony and not Sony themselves - donated 200% of every item purchased. I would say that is quite remarkable. Not their fault that they don't have the install base that they once had. Not to mention that they just held a month long charity drive for Child's Play.

Sony Corp donated $250,000 plus whatever their employes donate and whatever their employees donate, Sony will match that up to $100,000.
