Isn't that the point? They send this guy out like Catholic priests to a strange land to soften the natives before the conquistadors come. I like how he blames the negative public image of Activision on the gamers and not on the fact that Kotick has been quoted as saying he wants to make games more expensive and take any enjoyment out of creating games. Not to mention the constant milking of the same old titles instead of using that cash to invest in new IPs or technologies.

Yes it can be trendy to hate the guy on top, but at the same time the number 1 company become arrogant and has a CEO who won't STFU. Look at Sony... they had a bloated ego and a loud mouth who claimed we would work extra jobs to buy their product. Sony needed a kick in the ass and a drop from first place to really bring their A game.

I don't trust this guy, not be cause I think he's being dishonest, but I think he really can't smell the shit he is shoveling.

In fact, since Dan Amrich wants to bring up EA, they'll make a perfect example. Now that EA has to fight for sales they are throwing out all the stops and making decisions that are better for gamers in the big picture. Dan doesn't seem to understand that. What gamers want is; when a company becomes number one games don't want them to suddenly turn around and say "nah, nah, nah, you suck here the same game repacked and at full price now pay for our DLC." EA has created great new IPs like Deadspace and brought back a fan fav like Metal of Honor. THHHHHAAAT is why I root for EA, not because I care about their market share.

Honestly as far as big dev's go I really don't give a shit. If they release a new IP and it's good I'll buy it I don't care if they're sacrificing lambs at their sacred altar everyday but if/when it effects the product I buy I start giving a shit. Most recent example being this 60$ steaming pile of shit called Bayonetta for PS3 I will never give a dollar to Platinum Games because of it.

Just like I refused to buy any more music games because of new peripherals and bundles, if consumers are stupid enough to keep buying this shit then so be it. I said the same thing about the 360 when everyone and their mother was on their second console because of RROD. In this case it is the consumers fault, if everyone pays for a shitty product why would you stop selling it?

And I agree with the EA thing, I want a Mirror's Edge 2 plox.

He always complained about Guitar Hero, saying that Beatles RB was a much, much, much better product. I wonder how he will treat the brand now...

Actually, I gave GH5 a 9.5 and Beatles RB an 8. I liked both games, but this year, I liked GH more.

That's not why I got the job, mind you. I still have to face the low scores and negative things I've said about GH in the past.

Its unfair that anyone person has to absorb the mistakes of a superior, but then again like you said you accepted. GH is something real gamers, you know the one who will be around when the trends like GH go away, want is to stop milking franchise like MW2. So much money was made from the previous two COD titles and yet COD MW2 comes along with the same outdated engine, when games from all sides are pushing boundaries IW is just sitting on a pile of cash rehashing the same story, short campain and then went ahead and tried to make up for it by cluttering the MP with unwanted game breaking perks. That is not even mentioning the glitches and exploites that should have been ironed out had Activision had IW do beta testing. Well anyway, I traded my copy of MW2 for MAG. Atleast Sony is trying to do something new. Well if i like it, that's to be seen.

@Dan aka OneOfSwords

It's good to see you doing well and thriving. I used to game with you on Gears 1 back in the day. You're a stand up guy. Too bad the ps3fanboys will never see that being that you have an Xbox backround(you're the enemy). You've done a great job with the mag @OXM and I hope your dreams are realized buddy.

"I posted one of my first potentially inflammatory things today..."

Uh, OK. I read the referenced blog post, and it was Dan going on for several paragraphs about, "Oh, you know that latest Bobby Kotick quote? That was totally taken out of context. What Bobby was really saying is that he loves awesome games and he loves quality, and anyone who is criticizing him must not love awesome games."

THAT was potentially inflammatory? I'd hate to see his completely balls-to-the-walls fuck-the-system revolutionary blog post:

"Bobby Kotick: Great CEO or the Greatest CEO? You decide!"

Well, look, it's the first time I said ANYTHING about the CEO. It's more inflammatory in that it might provoke comments like yours -- "oh look, he's already defending them." I don't want to give people new reasons to find fault. I'm going to take my lumps no matter what I say, so I was trying to think ahead.

Dan, I hate to break this to you, but your new job sounds like a major step down. You use to be a game reviewer, free to say what you want, and really contributing to the games industry by helping gamers choose which games to buy. Now you're just a corporate mouthpiece with a lame-ass blog.

Wow tabicat you've just completely ignored everything he's said haven't you? Every new job, especially one in the public view like Dan's takes a breaking in period. Wonder how many other tabicat's are out there not even giving fair chances?

I'm excited to see what Dan does at Activision. Like many others, I refuse to give any more money to them then I need to. But if you have followed Dan, and know how much he loves WoW, then you can't help but to think that there may be something genuine in his new position.

And I really want to see if you're going to keep being the same games journalist you were at OXM and GamePro.

Gotta say Dan, I admire what your doing because as I'm sure your fully aware of, there is no concept in the business world as Good Corporations or Bad Corporations because not everything is that black and white. People will continue to justify their irrational hatred of any big video game company no matter how irrelevant or even topical it may be.

Listen people, I get it- EA is the new halo of goodness in this industry that is, supposedly, becoming saturated with countless sequels and franchises which is funny because like Dan, I too have been gaming since the halcyon days of Atari/Nintendo/Sega (I'm significantly younger then him, being born in '87 lol) and can attest that sequels and franchises are absolutely NOTHING new. How many Mario games were on NES? Sonic on Genesis? How many Street Fighter 2 games were released between during the Super Nintendo and Genesis era?

The fact that are so many Guitar Hero games nowadays is absolutely nothing new and the only viable reasoning that people are ****ing kittens about it is because now they can even make their opinions vocally known to others- the internet didn't...technically... become a thing of communication between others until the '98

Also, Bobby Kotick is a businessman. He's in the business to make money, it's as simple as that. In fact, once you take off your rose-colored glasses, all video games can adamantly say that they care about you (their fans)- they're lying to your face because all they ultimately care about is your MONEY.

I'm fully aware that Dan Amrich, formally a podcaster (to me at least lol) of OXM and GamesRadar/TalkRadar, can take care of himself because he has mentioned before on TalkRadar that he enjoys the interaction with people whether that be good or bad. He had also stated that he was fully aware that irrational gamers would blame him or call him a "shill" because of him taking this position.

With people like That Burning Sensation making analogies comparing him to Catholic priests who basically mindscrewed the natives of a country into tranquility so they could be taken over by... you know what, I'm sorry but I don't understand your long-winded and incredibly illogical analogies that are entirely irrelevant to what he's doing and what his position at Activision is, you've kinda proven his point here.

Quite unlike how knowing your American and European History doesn't make you anymore intelligent than others... much like how my grasp of the English language doesn't automatically mean I'm smarter than you either.
