Get a lot of people who in real life are far too nervous to say something to someones face, and give them the anonymmity of an online chat function and it won't be long till you see them letting out all their frustration on people who can't retaliate.

I'm willing to bet that more than half of the people who cuss on xbox live and psn, if put in a room with each other for half an hour, wouldn't even dare to open their mouths.

So true. I really hate listening to people constantly bashing one another or going off on immature rants. You wouldn't do that in person, especially if you found out that the guy you were messing with was 6' 2", 235 lbs.

What I really find funny though is when somebody says something that would be considered a death threat if you said it on the street.

"If I knew where you lived..." "Good thing your behind a headset.." etc, etc. Often times I just want to remind them that you could still press charges even though it's online. Start sending people to court and things would clean up mighty nice. Meh.

For what it's worth though, playing with my friends on their 360's versus playing on my PS3 I do find a lot more flat out annoying people. But either way it's as simple as clicking mute.

I think the #1 of Dickwads has lessened with headsets though. You can't act so tough when you can't copy and paste tough-guy phrases and instead must rely on your mic skills.

Still though. It's definitely still there.

I would actually have to agree, to be perfectly honest. I do believe xbox attracts more bratty kids, though I have also encountered a good share of them on the PS3.

I don't know, a headset costs a mere what 10-20. I have a hard time believing that if these people were more vile and narcissistic they wouldn't go out and get one. Maybe the ability to control oneself prevents them from caring about what other people say and do.

Also according to polls the Xbox does house younger players where as the average PSN player is around 25. An age that the insurance companies around the world deem as more mature and harder to invoke road rage. If they did the research and figure this out, then I'm willing to take their word.

To anyone wondering about price structuring, if you are going to purchase a blue-tooth headset for your PS3 online gaming, PLEASE, PLEASE get the Official PS headset. It is by far the best one on the market and worth every penny. I say this because I'm getting tired of infinite feedback loops of static and screeches or your music that 3/4 people don't like.

Sorry Andrew, but the question isn't whether their are juveniles on PSN or not, it's which service has more juveniles. And the answer would overwhelmingly be XBLA, for a number of reasons. Firstly, the Xbox has always been cheaper, and thusly, is more likely to be a present from parents to the younger crowd. Secondly, the PS3 hasn't been pushed side by side with a headset, nearly as much as the 360, and thusly, the online community for the PS3, isn't quite as vocal as that for the 360. Thirdly, there are more xbox's than there are PS3's, making it more likely that more juveniles are on the 360. Fourthly, the Xbox pushes itself as an FPS console, and it's widely recognized that FPS games, draw the biggest crowd of rude, foul-mouthed, children.

My guess is that the majority of mouths on the PSN have migrated over from the 360.

And you sir, have made an excellent point.

The teenage use of the 360 is in most cases far exceeds that found on the PS3.

Yeah, the PSN is a far more quality service in terms of user base. But that's probably because the PS3 appeals more to the 18+ demographic.

I don't even use a headset on Live anymore.

Also due to the fact you've to be 18 or parental approved for PSN.

If there are more foul mouthed kids on XBox live it's only because there are more people using XBox Live. Get enough people together annonymously there will be no shortage of jerks. Sometimes these very forums are perfect examples.

Ironically enough this comment makes him look pretty juvenile, as it's a desperate cry for attention for a game that has tons of negative impressions and is releasing alongside a heavily hyped and anticipated game on the rival platform. It's more or less set up to bomb hard.

PSN doesn't have as many juveniles necessarily, but even the adults act like it. SOCOM: Confrontation is the most newb unfriendly game I've ever played.

MGO was MUCH easier to get into. It controls like MGS4, and has fairly ordinary game modes.

SOCOM Confrontation has no tutorials or anything, the instruction booklet is beyond worthless, and you can expect to be cussed out by players because of it.

I can't say anything about DotA or HoN, I haven't played either one.

SOCOM people take their game serious for sure but at least in large part they understand and know how to work as a team. I'm sure a lot of the SOCOM community will move to MAG which gives great promise for that game in my opinion.

this is the thing that impressed me on the MAG beta. people were actually using their headsets for (who would have guessed) strategy. It held squads together. I didn't hear one adolescent obscene joke.

I'm sure this has been said before, but appearantly it can't be said enough:

Mute the buggers and you don't have to worry about it. Once they see that no one is listening and carrying on meaningful productive communication, they will stop... or they won't... I don't care, because I can't hear them. If everyone did this then there wouldn't be as many people shooting their mouths off because they would get instantly retaliated against via the mute function and they will get sick of not being able to work with their in-game team.

Personally I mute anyone who I would file a complaint against. This typically means people that just spew hate from their mouths. XBL also affords you the ability to unprefer those that you don't want to play with. This theoretically will help avoid being matched up with them again, but who knows.
