Most prominent figures in the video game industry usually recoil when they're given all the credit for coming up with the idea for one of their studio's games. The same apparently can't be said for Hideo Kojima -- according to CVG, the mind behind Metal Gear Solid recently explained the origins of some of the concepts in Peace Walker during an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine: "Well it's strange, but not so many ideas come from the other staff," Kojima humbly stated.
The idiosyncratic developer also pointed out, "Co-op Ring, Love Box - the names and the ideas come from myself," later adding "I am taking charge of the overall game design." We're pretty excited by this fact. It sounds like more than any other Metal Gear game that came before it, Peace Walker will be a direct window into Kojima's convoluted thinkmeat.

It's the perfect game for that 4/5 rating. It's a really good game that's just a few development decisions away from being a perfect game.
It's great, but it really could have been better. (That driving/shooting mission with the bird things? That "follow the rebellion guy" part? Annoying!)

I really think the whole game deserves every bit of credibility it can get.
The reason why?
One word: CHOICE
Gamers love the fact that you can choose your own path in games, and having some what control over what happens next. But, I will Tmac MGS4 for a second, and praise ME over MGS4. Mass Effect brought that effect that I wish every game would have: the ability to change the ending into really anything. I hope Heavy Rain goes well.

The media announces Kojima's tragic death.
A suicide note is found reading only, "It was mostly my idea."
Later, Konami holds a press conference in which Kojima takes the stand, looking as healthy as ever, and announces that he has returned to living to only fulfill a supporting role in future gaming endeavors the company takes.
Soon after, MGS5 is announced; directed, produced, and designed by Hideo Kojima.
It sells millions.

wtf JS I wrote a whole essay about how MGS4 cinematic haters have ADD n it didn't get posted. SMFH

I think that was your clue to rethink your comment and repost it with 100% less stupidity.
Or just keep thinking that everyone who didn't like sitting through 40 minutes of confusing, incomprehensible, and pretentious bullshit has ADD and see how that works for you.

Well I have/had ADD. Diagnosed when I was a lot younger. I loved the game (cutscenes and all!) So where do I fit into your little theory?

"to understand any other type of story"
You're right, I'm still learning how to understand the stupid stories that only Kojima knows how to tell. Maybe I'll finally get it with the inevitable next metal gear game.

"oh shit, a game with subplots, underlying themes, and complexity! My brain hurts!"
Yea, you musta shat ur pants during the Matrix.
@sonic
It's one thing to say all MGS4 cinematics haters have ADD and another to say all people with ADD hate MGS4 cinematics. That's like saying everyone who was abused as a child becomes a serial killer.. But have many serial killers been abused as a child? Yeppers.

There's nothing complex about any of the MGS games' stories. It's just rambling nonsense, and whenever Kojima reaches a roadblock he solves it by going "uhhh...nanomachines!"
You might as well say Final Fantasy has a deep and complex story, it'd be just as ridiculous.

There are admittedly a couple story flaws in MGS4 but the overall story, especially across the series from MGS1 forwards, is well written. It's 100000000000x better than "they killed my family, time to kick some ass!!!" or "they captured my GF, it's payback time!!". It's original and it has great plot twists (99% of the time).. Which is waaay more than can be said about a lot of other AAA titles.

so can someone ever name all these things magically explained away by nanomachines or which elements make no sense

The MGS stories are all very deep and they take some inspection and reflection to completely understand. It's not spoon fed to you like 99% of other games out there. Don't argue with the troll anymore. He's just become the joystiq court jester. You can't take him seriously because he doesn't take himself seriously and just wants to piss everyone off.

"you can still have all those elements in a story and still have a shitty story. Alot of writers use those elements to cover up the fact that there weaker in other areas (hint: MSG4)."
I think you're full of shit and you've never actually played it. Elaborate on why it has a shitty story and what specifically you didn't like about the plot and the characters.

Okay, then what's your point? Unless you meant to say "People who have ADD are more likely to hate MGS4 and it's cutscenes than those who do not." Even if that is what you meant, I highly doubt that anyone is really qualified to make such a statement (and base it on anything more than correlation).
It just seems silly to try to take two seemingly unrelated things and put them together to try to make sense. This is the internet. This is the age where console wars are the most wild and out of control. There is no logic, only people who love to stir up shit for the owners of a console they don't like.

Oh no I'm not offended at all, don't worry. I just thought it seemed silly to make such a comparison on the internet of all places. I thought you were actually being serious when you made the comparison and my first thought was "what kinda person makes such a weird statement on the internet... that's like trying to reason with a troll."
Sorry if I sounded pissed off or angry.

Metal Gear Solid Rising seems to be getting shunned by Kojima. I get the feeling that Rising might just have been something Kojima didn't fully want to see happen or maybe he just didn't mind. Either way, Rising is a total mystery and I guess we'll find out if Metal Gear can live on without Kojima based on how Rising does.

Hideo Kojima is such a genius, if he did all of that for the PSP owners (like me), that guy deserves a 2010 PSP Game of the Year Award from IGN and other sites as well.

what he should really get is a fan service award for directing and designing the MGS series longer than he needed to.... All while not milking the shiznite out of the franchise. He's the top developer OF ALL TIME.. in my humble opinion.

Kojima has said this is his MGS 5. I'm going to support it with a day 1 purchase. He hasn't ever let me down in anything I've purchased from him (even the iPhone game.)

I'd love to see an awards show where someone gets Best Director, goes up to the stage and gives this acceptance speech.
"I'd like to thank.....myself. After all, without me, I wouldn't have done any of this. I deserve all the credit as everyone under me was a puppet to my whim."
