We frequently see the words produced by gaming industry superanalyst Michael Pachter -- however, a new piece of programming on GameTrailers gives us the rare opportunity to hear them straight from the man himself. Yes, a new video segment titled "Pach-Attack" gives the technoprophet his own soapbox from which he can voice his opinions and say his sooths, all presented in crystal-clear HD video.
We've embedded the inaugural episode of Pach-Attack after the jump. If you happen to check it out, you'll need to keep reminding yourself that the casually-buttoned gentleman you're viewing isn't actually Don Johnson.

He also predicted that Grand Theft Auto 3 would fewer than 375,000 units and that World of Warcraft would flame out after a year.

I still don't really understand why people have such a level of hate for him as they do. I understand they don't see why he is the authority and go to guy for predictions all the time, but some of you absolutely blow me away with your ability to hate someone you could ignore easily.

Great. Now we get to hear every damn week about how a Wii HD is going to come out by the end of the year.

I think the commenters of Joystiq are better analysts than Pachter. Seriously, we should get paid for this

His attempt to be cool at the end of the segment is quite lame

You know why this dumbass got his own show? Because you guys keep posting everything he says! Every time Joystiq (or anyone else) makes a post about some idiotic guess this guy makes, you contribute to his fame.
Nice going, guys.

"Music gamers abandoned the industry"
No, they're still there, there's just too many games. Nobody is going to buy all of them.
Also, cool, Xbox Live shilling.

Except they didn't buy any of the games that came out THIS year, either. Even the mainline offerings. Music gaming fans are more or less gone for the time being. Thank Activision for killing the golden goose.
Well, Ubisoft's Just Dance sold well apparently. Maybe we'll see a stream of Just Dance clones now. Yay.

I think what perturbs me most about this man is his subconscious (or conscious) ability to wrongfully speak on the behalf of or about a whole section of persons participating in a specific genre of games. This guy doesn't know me, nor my thought processes, mannerisms, or of my decision-making skills - he needs to stop acting like he does. I mean, come on, "Didn't capture the consumer's imagination"? If anything the inflation of music-based games, and the developers who make them should be to blame. It just seems as though he's kind of taking it upon himself to "speak for the people," when in reality, to do so, you'd have to have a collection of similar ideas and opinions that represent the vast majority, rather than one douchebag spouting off his own beliefs. Let me go ahead and be the first to predict that the biggest loser for the year two-thousand and ten will be the conception and implementation of this show. Thanks to Joystiq, I have to deal with this penis gobbler on a weekly basis so it seems - and it's a pity that Gametrailers had the audacity to even think of filming this talking dick. I would've rather them take the money they were going to spend making this show, and just give it to the crew members that would've had to film it as a bonus. If anything, we need to be checking to see if Gametrailers, like Rockstar has terrible working conditions - I'd imagine if I had to film this guy I'd be pretty stressed to, I'm just waiting for the wives to start e-mailing.

Sure, he's wrong a lot, but Pachter is funny, a great personality, and he seems to be a nice guy. Plus it's always great to see older guys talking about games and the industry.

I dig Pachter's stuff.
He comes from the business side of things but knows and loves his games.
That specific show being his first is a little shaky but his other stuff in discussion rounds has always been good.

Well, he's semi right. The Cell is pretty well faster/more powerful than most PC's. It's the RAM and GPU bottlenecks holding it down.

I don't hate Pachter. I find it both baffling and amusing that his 'predictions' are a marketable product, though.

Wow.... M Pach is one crazy guy when he speaks. I'm so used to seeing him over a crystal ball and reading what he's said to actually watch him talk and make commentary. But hey, let him continue to water that money tree of his, fine by me

nice little video, but telling us what was good / bad about last year, after reading all those 2009 review features, isn't terribly exciting.
hope we get some actual predictions in the next instalment...

People overlook the fact that he is one of the few people to put some business perspective into video games.
Most interviewees are game reviewers/analyzers but very few to none have any experience or education behind the financial factor.
For that, I think he is pretty accurate and smart but he often doesn't present himself properly.

Well, unless your PC has the almighty cell processor, which I doubt it has, than the Pach is correct.

Ok but my only problem with what he said...
"You cant get Facebook or any of those features on your tv"
PC can hook up to the TV.
PS3 and Wii have a internet browser that can get those features.

Lol. I just watched it. It reminds me of how Liz Lemon, in 30 Rock, was trying to get a new show called Dealbreakers. Pachter was just reading from a teleprompter. No charisma at all. Then the camera editing is trying to make things all edgy and exciting, when there's nothing going on that's exciting.
I think GT needs to cut back on the editing. Just let the guy read his stuff. Don't try to make him hip. He's not hip!

i love how much air-time they give Pachter. I don't really care if he's right or wrong, I just find him entertaining. Oh well in the end it's just a TV show about videogames. Nothing to get that angry over. Bring on the Pach Attack!!

Hardly reasonable to say a casual gamer 'abandoned' the market. Isn't the definition of a casual gamer someone who buys WiiPlay, Mario Kart and never buys a game again? If they bought every 'casual' game they'd hardly be a casual gamer anymore.

Hate to break it to you, but statistically, that's very accurate. A very small percentage of home computers out there have graphics cards out there that rival what the PS3 has under the hood.
It was a bit of hyperbole, just pretend there was a little asterisk at the end of that "Nobody* has a computer that rivals a PS3" and the fine print said "*Well, hardly anyone, anyway."

Two things.
One, why are we still putting any weight to what this guy says?
Two, Pach-Attack has to be the worst name ever.

They'll give anyone a show.
Half the people who post here could come to the same conclusions/predictions he does.
How long will it take before his employers realize they're paying him to do something plenty of gamers would do for free?
