We don't possess what you might call a "strategic mind." This much is evident whenever we play Risk, where our "keep Australia on lockdown and never, ever leave" approach has yet to pay off. With that in mind, the trailer for the independently developed tactical action game Frozen Synapse just makes our brain hurt. Basically, it's a tactical turn-based combat sim where multiple characters with different specialties are controlled at once, and also there's time travel, and oh no our nose is bleeding.
Check out the video after the jump, but make sure you've got some gauze nearby.

The concept looks very close to an old Laser Squad Nemesis game:

This game looks actually pretty cool. It's like a cyberpunk version of Laser Squad Nemesis or something, just even more tactical than that (which is kind of impressive).
I'm sure after playing and dying enough, you'll gradually start formulating your own approaches that work out really well, and then so will other people online, and it'll be a whole cat and mouse tactics war.
Sounds fun.

Reminds me of the original Rainbow Six where you could plan your mission before hand and plot your team AI. Wish they'd bring that back to the series, and move away from the cheesy cinematic/story driven stuff they've been pushing lately...
Looks pretty cool though, definitely want to give it a try.

Also reminds me of SWAT 4, except with the top-down view. You could tell your squad members to go to different doors, and time your entrance to be staggered or simultaneous.

Looks amazing. I really want this now. It's like CSS in turn by turn combat style.

Thanks to everyone who has left nice comments and cheers to the Joystiq team for this post! We're a small indie team making this game on a very low budget and working hard to do the best we can, so all this support is very helpful indeed!

I'm most curious to see how Multiplayer could actually work (like does the user get a "just wait" screen, while the other guy chooses his options?)

Working your way out from Australia isn't a stupid move at all. It allows you to have quite a few islands behind enemy lines where they can't get to as you begin to move out. Is the best way to protect yourself - create a narrow passage for them to have to force their way through. Means maximum resistance.

Will be out on PC initially - we're currently hoping to get it out on Mac shortly after. Then we'll be looking for any opportunities on other platforms.

Wicked cool on the Mac version! I was really bummed after watching the trailer that it looked to be Windows-only, especially considering it's made with Torque. Glad to hear you're working on an OS X version, 'cause it looks like a game I'd like to buy.

That actually looks kinda cool o.O Keep my eye on this game.. though if it was on XBLA or PSN, with achievements/trophies i'd insta-buy it. PC, it have to depend on price. Anyone know how much it'll be? xD

You can fine tune squad movements and what not, this looks SICK! This is the kind of strategy game I've been waiting for.

Just a word of advice: to help keep the flow of the conversation, it's usually best to click the "Reply" button right under your post (above the [+][-]!). That way people can follow what you're saying without having to scroll around so much.
Good luck with the game though.

There's time travel?
Is this real time travel, or just in your imagination?

This is, without a doubt, the most exited I've been about a game release in a long time. Kinda reminds me of Combat Mission, but smaller scale and works on a widescreen monitor so it doesn't give you a headache every time you rotate the camera. I'm still a little bitter about that.

random tidbit of the day, I actually had a friend win a game of Risk by the keeping australia locked down strategy, by waiting for the other players to beat the heck out of each other then swooping in at the end
it didn't involve the never leaving part, but its still pretty funny
