There is what appears to be a handful of screenshots in the site's gallery section, and the news section also mentions planning for "Kingsmouth Day 2010," which is set to go down on Saturday, April 3. Whether or not anything will actually happen on that day is anyone's guess.
Funcom's The Secret World gets a weird website
27
Since it was first revealed back in 2007, there really hasn't been a lot of information released about Funcom's upcoming MMO The Secret World. We've learned a bit about its factions, enjoyed a handful of screenshots and watched a couple of nifty trailers (embedded after the break, for your convenience). Now, Funcom has opened a website for one of the game's locations, a sleepy New England town (yes, another one) by the name of Kingsmouth. The website is designed as though it were made by an actual chamber of commerce, including plenty of low resolution photos and awkwardly placed Google ads. According to Joystiq's sister site Massively, the site is also full of references to H.P. Lovecraft, which seems appropriate given the otherworldly nature of the game.

This is the first time I've ever really had my interests pretty well engaged by an MMO, so I am keeping an eye on it.
It's pretty neat.

Don't even bother keeping your eye on it. Failcom is all hype, zero delivery. Age of Conan is one of the most hated games on the internet and failcom one of the most hated developers. People are still pissed about how poor that game is. I still want my money back for all the false promises given. They sold me a demo of a game(Tortage) but they didn't deliver the rest or even basic gameplay mechanics for months. That's pretty much about it. Age of Conan sucks and was a cash-grab attempt by an awful developer -- funcom.
Age of Conan had all the makings of this game. Great sounding PvE, PvP, Combat, Revolutionary ideas for action-based mmorpg combat, excellent marketing hype such as fantastic videos like these, developer diaries, etc. Delivery of these items on launch day: None

Yeah.. to be continued alright. Until they (Funcom) can get some funding to finish the story which will leave MANY plotholes.

Failcom doesn't need to finish this game for it to be released. Funcom's policy is hype hype hype, lie to fans, promise things on launch day. Promise when not in the game on launch day, it'll be patched within a week to continue to get people to buy their game. Continue to lie and fail to fix content. Finally, months later some basic gameplay mechanics get fixed and they release expansion to try to grab cash, finish never their launch day promises and leave tons of unfixed bugs, pvp imbalances, crappy pve.
Ever heard of Age of Conan? There's a reason funcom is nicknamed Failcom. If Funcom is behind the helm, this game is headed towards pure suck. The tailers look pretty cool but wait ...Age of Conans tailers looked pretty sweet and they hyped those trailers a ton. Actual game: Incomplete, buggy, suckage. This game's actual gameplay: Suckage.

They don't deserve a runaway sucess after their last game flopped hard.
Age of Conan: Suckage, bugs and incomplete design - The quest for profit from crap
For four months, AFTER RELEASE, your items didn't contribute to your characters stats. FOUR MONTHS which is INSANE. You could be naked or weaking top of the line gear and your characters would have the SAME STATS so clothing was nothing more than 'appearance' with no 'effect'. There was no content past lvl 50 for nearly two months. You'd reach 50, run out of quests and have to grind grind grind mobs to level to 80. It was REDICULOUS.
Really, the only good part about the game was levels 1 to 20 which had good quests, good storyline, great graphics, reasonably fun gameplay. Once you left tortage, the game went to shit. Failcom released a completely unfinished product with hypes and claims of launch day having tons of features that the game still doesn't have. They basically lied to their fans, stole their money and still haven't delivered launch day promises nearly a year and a half later. They now send out threatening emails threatening to delete your characters unless you re-sub as a last ditch effort to get more subscribers and steal more money.
They are dispecable and failcom does not deserve a run-away success. Unless you think businesses with unethical practices deserve run away successes in which case, Hello Activitision CEO :) Welcome to joystiq.com

It sounds pretty good to me, gameplay-wise.
It has no levels or classes and is instead skill based like Ultima Online, and apparently attempts to make Player vs. Monster fighting more engaging than "press button, receive golds", while also making grouping a player's choice instead of a game's force.
Then the setting is pretty neat with all the conspiracy theories and ancient monsters and modern day setting, and you can super customize your character's look. It's also got an emphasis on plot, which will apparently include time travel.

Combats like a more action focused version of Age of Conan, but there will be guns and stuff. Third person shooter-y kind of combat.
@MrAlex
That test was about which faction suits you. There will be 3 factions in the game, and your character belongs to one of them, and there will be PvP and different storyline perspectives and stuff.

Woah guys, get off the hype train. Don't get too excited but Funcom's "Were going to change the way mmorpgs are going to be done". That's what Funcom said about Age of Conan's healing system, combat system and pvp system. They had tons of videos describing how their combo system would be intutive, ground breaking, etc.

It's great if they ditch stats and ditch levels since they couldn't get them to F****** work months after release of their last mmorpg. They are starting to realize I think the world refers to them as failcom and rather than fail at balancing, stats, pvp, pve, making quests they've decided to give up and just not include levels or classes. That's an appropriate idea for a company that can do none of those things well. They just forgot the part about stopping making games.
Funcom sucks, if they are behind the helm of this game, it'll suck too. Their track record is horrid. There's no reason to believe this game will be any different as rarely to magically perfect gems come from constant failures. Especially with their most recent game was an epic failure hence the new nickname 'failcom'. Enough said?

Seriously? You've so far written 4 long comments about Funcom not deserving all the hype. Did Funcom hurt you or something? Stop whining for f sakes.
At least Funcom tries to be a little different, making new combat systems and such.

Hmm. I can't understand why it's "Kingsmouth" instead of Innsmouth or Kingsport, unless they're worried about Arkham House's tenuous (and probably bogus) copyright claims. Even if Lovecraft's works aren't in the public domain, I doubt there were ever trademarks filed for his fictional cities (or anything else for that matter. he loved it when others re-used his mythos, it made them deeper and more believable!)
So... why hide the love for Lovecraft?

I think because it's intended to be one singular city crammed full of Lovecraft.

They should call it marblehead instead of kingsmouth, then it can be given the name of the real town lovecraft based kingsport on. (the town I grew up in too.
