Before you start wondering: No, we don't post about every single portable Nintendo 64 that slides across our tip box -- rather, we only spend our time writing about the ones that are so much cooler than their predecessors. We were pleased to find that one such project was recently highlighted by Engadget: The Kamikaze 64, which is demoed in a video after the jump.
The device, which was commissioned by an unnamed party for an unspecified amount of cash, isn't the smallest handheld N64 we've ever seen. However, with a crisp screen, support for a second controller, video output, a headphone jack and a Controller Pak slot, it might just be the most comprehensive stab anyone's ever taken at miniaturizing the console. We'll take four, thanks.

My PSP plays N64 games fine... and the Pandora does it better. But still, props to these guys. It's fun still having the cartridges and full emulation speed + sound.

Unlike your PSP emulator, this is actually legal.
And actually a lot more impressive.

I personally have no problems with emulators running old games. They don't set an alarm off in my moral code.
Anyways, considering how hard this is to do I am extremely impressed. I'm no expert but I figure it is a lot harder than coding an emulator.

I bought all the N64 games I use and turned some of them into ROMS myself. I still have my N64 next to my 360 and PS3. I love the N64, and I never bashed this thing. All I'm claiming is that this can be done in a smaller form factor, albeit not perfectly.

But nothing compares to original hardware, and the PSP will never be able to emulate it perfectly.

I agree, it never will. It just finally perfectly emulated the GBA. So, n64 anytime soon is a no-no. However, Pandora is looking sleeker and sleeker considering it's fully emulated DC, N64 and basic PC games (fallout 1/2). Looking forward to when those are actually "released"- right now they're by request only.

Reminds me a bit of the Sega Gamegear.
I loved that thing. Still got it laying around somewhere too...

you know I really want to get into modding, but I don't know how these people get the shells for them and make it look so clean and professional.
I know they dont have plastic mold press machines at home.... where do people get the shells, aside from the homemade variety.
does anyone know of any good mod forums or sites?

I'm still waiting for a portable N64 that retains the three-handle design. Some games use left and center, and I've yet to see a machine that acknowledges this.
Pandora comes close, since it's got two analog sticks, but then you've gotta remap the C-buttons to something else.

You could make a laptop like design, and plug in a controller...
