Though we still don't have a release date for Dead Rising 2, we have gotten first word of a film (Keiji Inafune's directorial debut) based on the series. The title directly translates to "Death Disease Contamination Dead Rising," which we think you'll agree is a pretty great name for a movie. Bonus: With only its first trailer, this thing is already making us confused and a little headachey.
As near as we can tell, it's a movie about four Asian people fighting zombies in a warehouse with both conventional armaments and a weaponized wheelchair. Oh and some parts are in first person. ... We know, right? This old chestnut again?! If you can stand the tedium, the trailer's right after the break. [Update: Also from Andriasang: The film will apparently be coming to the web (as you may have guessed from the productions values) this year, though 360 owners will be able to watch it early.]

Here's what I'm telling you right now: Dead Rising. Frank West played by George Clooney. He may not look identical but it's very close. He's just got that Clooney wit. Then supporting characters could be more famous stars: Zach Galifinakis, etc. Kind of like Ocean's Eleven without every single star being in the spotlight.

I thought this trailer was crap and then I read your comment. I'm glad you don't work in the movie industry.

Read the credits. :o It's fake; it's a commercial for Dead Rising 2.

1:31 The credits are very short, too short for a feature length movie, more than likely listing some people involved in the making of the trailer. Plus, the movie title listed there is different than what's said earlier.

Okay, so if Splinter Cell Conviction is "Badass: The Game", then this is "Badass: The Movie"?
Seems interesting, but for some reason I have a hard time getting into movies with Asian people in places like China. Last one I saw that reeled me in was Push, and while I liked it, it seemed a little off-beat at times as far as characters and acting went.

But I liked Push! It's just that sometimes the acting doesn't quite click with me. I mean someone like Jackie Chan or Jet Li are absolutely fine. It's just when it's got some typical-looking character with all these odd dialog choices and strange camera angles...

This raises a good question.
If a paraplegic is turned into a zombie, does he regain the use of his legs? Zombies are just reanimated flesh. Or would he be the mostly useless zombie of them all, like a venus fly trap of the undead?

Guess you haven't seen Dawn of the Dead (remake).. the legless zombie in that one could swoop down on you from the ceiling pipes, with incredible speed, mind you. Now how he managed to get up to the pipes with no legs, ergo lacking the ability to jump; but I assume he had incredible upper body strength.. with the not feeling any pain thing 'n all.
What were we talking about again?

i think in terms of regaining the use of the legs, i would have to say no. but he would be a good crawler. one good rule of thumb that someone said once when it came to the argument of slow vs fast zombies is once you're dead, you're dead. things continue to decompose. becoming a zombie shouldn't make you super human. and i agree.

Doesn't Dead Rising have a movie based on it already? Is it called Dawn of the Dead or something?

I think the point of it is to be over the top ridiculous cheeseball gore, like 1970s horror movies, and exactly like Dead Rising. Cheap special effects, bad acting, tons of blood and improbably death devices.
It looks pretty much like the perfect film version of Dead Rising.
I'm not understanding the hate.

Don't bother explaining it. Most of the commenters on Joystiq are dumb babies who can't comprehend anything. They don't 'get' Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff either, so there ya' go.

I don't know about that, but I am wondering why people expect a Dead Rising film to have some sort of Silent Hill (game) atmosphere, directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, George Lucas' group on special effects, with an all-star cast and script writers.
It's pretty contrary to the spirit of the game and it's source of inspiration.
Has nobody seen Evil Dead 2?
