Still trying to find a reason to buy the tablet....

Let me help you with that! Answer yes to all 4 of the following questions and you may very well be content with purchasing an Apple branded product:

1. Do you want to feel superior than those around you based on the product(s) you purchase?

2. Do you want to feel more intelligent without being intelligent than those around you?

3. Do you believe that purchasing something because it's more expensive makes it 'better'?

4. Do you look forward to looking like a douche with your new Apple product(s) while sitting at your local Starbucks with bluetooth headset and accompanying quadruple shot mocha latte non dairy with ice?

How is frothing-at-the-mouth pop-hate any better than smug product-buying?

I should note that I am an iPhone owner and while I would have to answer no to all the above questions, I still sometimes feel like douche when I'm using my iPhone.

How about this question:

Do you use things that you like regardless of what other people think of you?

Fake Enzo up there should really re-evaluate his comment, since his obvious bandwagoneering is quite the opposite of free-thinking. I really don't understand the reason to hate a company's products when they do nothing to harm you, unless of course it's some statement you're unsuccessfully trying to make (see: goth kids and being original/unique). Just don't buy them, and be your own person.

Captain, I picked up on your sarcasm with your second post. I was replying to Bradwart's post (which I'm pretty sure wasn't sarcasm, but alas, my B in sarcasm means I'm only good for 85% detection rate).

You wouldn't thing so by reading Engadget, although I hardly think they're representative. In all fairness I think it goes "People who don't care" > "Apple lovers" > "Apple haters"

Get over it.

The iPhone is a hardcore gaming device, and the Apple tablet is only going to be.. harder.

MP3 players were around for a long time. Look at the iPod.

Smartphones were around for several years, yet it didn't 'start' until the iPhone.

Apple has to do it before it's 'trendy'.

I'm probably going to get downvoted here but the MP3 player existed before the iPod and touchscreens existed LONG before the iPhone, the difference was Apple made these products more user friendly.

Look at the amount of phones that have come out since the iPhone that STILL can't seem to grasp the simplicity of the iPhone's touchscreen.

There's a lot of unnecessary hype surrounding this tablet, but I assume people are excited to see if The Jobed One can do to Tablets what he did to the MP3 player and touchscreen cellphones.

@NaeemTHM

"Look at the amount of phones that have come out since the iPhone that STILL can't seem to grasp the simplicity of the iPhone's touchscreen."

I think a lot of it has to do with Apple owning patents on ways to interact with the phone and UI elements. Thankfully, most of those only apply to the US, but it is still crippling the industry a tad.

Ah, PC and Mac, the internet's oldest, most vehement topic of fanboy angst. It's strange that some people who seem to be relatively level-headed when it comes to consoles are extreme opponents in the computer OS wars.

Are you guys like tmac and Fable 3 and Natal, even if this is the best thing ever you'll still never buy it because it's Apple?

That said, the weakness of the newsworthiness of this is quite suspect.

I don't entirely hate Apple, I just don't think they're the messiah that their fans proclaim them to be.

OS X? Unintuitive and flashy, with issues under the hood. Seriously, it's 2010 and no basic file explorer?
Their computers? The same Foxconn parts with a huge markup.
The iPod?

To be honest, the iPod was best when it was JUST an iPod. They've packed so much crap into them now that the music side is lacking. Substandard audio hardware, etc. And they've bloated iPhone OS to the point that the first gen devices have issues running it.

IMO, the Touch has largely been passed up by the Walkman X series and the Zune HD.

I completely agree with you: no company is a Messiah (Mac or MS), and the fanboys for both PC and Mac are equally bad, it's just that neither side ever wants to admit it (sounds familiar on a gaming blog). I just get tired of the never-ending fighting, and am quite sad to see it making it's way onto Joystiq.

In full disclosure, I prefer Macs, but I am equally adept with both. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but that the people that waste effort online arguing about it are never going to convince the other side anything, since both arguing parties have made up their minds. The only thing I hate worse is ATT and Verizon fanboys: please don't let find their way here.

Bradwart, have you used a Mac recently? You are making claims that aren't true. How is OSX unintuitive, when to install an application, you drag it to your applications folder. And I don't know what you mean by no basic file explorer, if you mean something along the lines of Windows Explorer, well, Finder does a much better job of it than Windows.

I used windows computers all my life, just recently switched to mac, and I got to say, it does what it does really well, and a lot of the basics it does so much better than any Windows computer. Yea, it's not for hardcore gaming or anything, but damn, use Boot Camp and Windows 7 and a MacBook Pro will hang with many windows laptops.

The reason the touch is still much better than the Zune or Walkman is support. The app store is friggin huge, if you want to do something with your touch besides play music, the app is there. But I can't judge, cause I haven't used anything besides a Sansa and my iPod touch.

I'm a bit of an apple fanboy yes, but what pisses me off is when people claim to know everything about Macs and are just wrong. Apple does a damn good job with their products, and the same can be said for many PC manufacturers. Each OS has it's own set of pros and cons, try to look at it that way instead of bashing Mac

when you hear news like this... you just kinda stop and realise that it's just a oversize apple touch player.

buying the same app for a bigger device. yep more money to yer! ;)

and the touch and iphone isn't a top leading technology device. sure it can do stuff but i can't help but see it more of a trend device.

Anyone who has used a mac and had to go through the ordeals of the 90's should know the feeling that it wasn't very cool back then ;) and when i say cool, it was a hunk of crap that i had to put up with lol for print work.

Tablets are pretty neat. Not something I'd get, but if I did it'd have to have an OS, not a smartphone interface.
