The identity of the teased "Capcom x Microsoft" title was revealed earlier this morning, bringing about one of those forehead-slapping of course moments -- because of course it's a Monster Hunter game for the 360. To be more specific it's Monster Hunter Frontier, a port of the PC MMO of the same name.
On top of a promotional trailer (which we've posted after the jump), Capcom's released a few details about the game, the most interesting of which is the title's subscription plan. According to Famitsu, Japanese players will be required to purchase Hunter Life Course Coupons for 1,400 yen ($15), which will give them access to the game for 30 days and a one-month Xbox Live Gold subscription. Not a bad deal at all.
The game's official site also went live earlier this morning, and will be updated again on February 1. Keep an eye out for more details in the coming weeks, even though chances of this coming to the West seem slim at best.

Well this sucks. I was just talking to my friends yesterday about how awesome it would awesome if they made a MH game for the 360 using the Lost Planet 2 graphic engine. These graphics look dated even MH Tri looks better. What a disappointment.

It's been out in Japan for awhile now... And no, Tri doesn't look better. I saw footage of it being played on a PC in Tokyo and it definitely has hi-res textures that destroy Tri easy.
and $15 a month for an MMO isn't unheard of. Hell, that's Warcraft, LotRO, Warhammer, and every other MMO that's somewhat current and fun.
Doesn't really matter as it isn't coming stateside anyways.

YAAAAAAY!! Now the Xbox 360 will sell a few extra 100k units in Japan!!
I'm sure that even Monster Hunter won't be enough to get the Japanese to just jump on that bandwagon....

This isn't what Microsoft needs to combat the ps3 in Japan. Very dissapointing indeed, I really thought this could be something fresh.

Are these the last death throes of the 360 trying to sell itself in Japan? :p

Maybe if they give away a free Quarter Pounder with every Xbox 360 sold maybe that would help sell in Japan.

One of my friends told me that this isn't so bad if they bring all the updates right out of the box. There was a whole truckload of content now on Frontier since it's launch.
On another note: Is the Monster Hunter team now actively avoiding Sony, the guys that gave them their start? What's up with that?

My guess? Microsoft probably did asked for a next gen Monster Hunter for the 360, unfortunately it's already underway, and exclusive for the PS3. So the next best thing would be a port of the PC MMO, and due to the same system architecture, the port might have taken just a fraction of the next gen Monster Hunter.
They didn't manage to get the big fish, but still managed to capture the thunder for the 360, which is still important. Still, just a guess.

Capcom stated that they had no plans to develop Monster Hunter for the PS3, and had issues with Sony and development support. So basically, they don`t want to have anything to do with the PS3. Tri was originally in development for the PS3 but due to problems between Capcom and Sony they stopped and went to the Wii.
I find it very hard to think that they would develop for the PS3.
Personally, I don`t really care as long as MH comes out on something.

What? No they didn't. It was too expensive to develop on the PS3 so they went to the Wii instead, it's got nothing to do with hating Sony.

Another MMO??
Honestly I would have jumped on this but after reading that you have to play a 15 dollar monthly fee? Come on man no matter how you try and spin it WoW is the only game worth that admission fee. If any MMO wants to beat WoW they need to start at a lower monthly charge.

I whole-heartedly disagree, WoW is probably the one MMO I won't pay $15 a month for. EverQuest (1 and 2), Vanguard, LotRO, Warhammer, Age of Conan... All of these are more fun than Warcraft at this point. It's basically a game of "everyone's a winner!" now-a-days.

Please save it cry babies for your mommy. You cant say that WoW is the most profitable MMO out there. You ask every MMO creator in the business and they all want a piece of the WoW pie. I stopped play WoW years ago but I tell you its hard to compete against it. I still have my Warhammer account but its boring barely anyone is on in the zones, you can drop Everquest. It peaked with the first one, and the second failed to live up to the hype. LoTR is competent MMO and probably the only one that if it had more pull could be better than WoW but it never will. Age of Conan just sucked.

Its not "i hate WoW because it's popular", it's "I've been there, and it ain't that good". Being able to top out in an MMO in 2 months of play ain't a good thing. It gets boring very very fast, unless you really dig on griefing. There's no challenge, very limited narrative, and your "reward" is to have a character with all the same items that every other character that shares your class does. All that equates to boring piece of low-res shit to me.

Is it just me or does this game look like it could have been released on the original Xbox or possibly even made it as a graphically inferior (but not enough for you to get the 360 edition instead) title on the PS2?

I figured it wouldn't come over here and I for sure wouldn't pay $15 a month for something like that.
A game like this should be free to play!
I would love to see this game come out here but I'm sure that if we do it will be the version that is coming out on the Wii!
I guess I will have to wait for the PS3 version of MH when it comes out!

In all fairness, you could say this game only costs ~$10/month since you're getting Live included as well.

Monster Hunter could be a killer franchise if marketed properly in the US. One of my biggest hopes for this generation was a new Monster Hunter. They keep on releasing PSP versions here but Americans don't ride on trains everywhere and don't play PSPs in public so unless you're still hanging out on the school playground it's impossible for most american gamers to fully enjoy this series.
Stupid stupid Capcom. I probably would have dished out the $15/mo to enjoy this awesome MMO stateside.

What is the deal? No one plays with their DS/PSP in public even though sales figures are through the roof, yet everyone doesn't hesitate to whip out their Ipods, digital cameras, cell phones or text messengers at EVERY POSSIBLE MOMENT.
