The identity of the teased "Capcom x Microsoft" title was revealed earlier this morning, bringing about one of those forehead-slapping of course moments -- because of course it's a Monster Hunter game for the 360. To be more specific it's Monster Hunter Frontier, a port of the PC MMO of the same name.
On top of a promotional trailer (which we've posted after the jump), Capcom's released a few details about the game, the most interesting of which is the title's subscription plan. According to Famitsu, Japanese players will be required to purchase Hunter Life Course Coupons for 1,400 yen ($15), which will give them access to the game for 30 days and a one-month Xbox Live Gold subscription. Not a bad deal at all.
The game's official site also went live earlier this morning, and will be updated again on February 1. Keep an eye out for more details in the coming weeks, even though chances of this coming to the West seem slim at best.

Oh sure.... I can see the Japanese giving up their PSP version of MH (the most popular version of the game), throw away their wii-mote (the most popular console) and flocking into game stores to buy a 360 just to play this game... which they can play on a PC anyway....

What a crock of shit. Quite possibly the least interesting game announcement I've ever seen.

Yaknow, I started getting excited :D Yay, monster hunter in HD + Its an MMO, what could be better being a rabid MH fan myself!!!!! Then I saw there was a PC version, I also saw that the graphics look meh, I also say something about 'paying' which makes me have a sad face, I also remembered annoying MH animations like drinking a potion which will undoubtedly be in this game.
Ah well, maybe Capcom will give it another and better go when they are really ready to evolve a series that has tons of potential.

Reading through the comments it seems like there is a ton of misinformation floating around out there...
Monster Hunter Frontier is originally a PC MO (not MMO - you can only play with 3 other people at one time) that was released in 2007. They have had multiple updates to the system, but the base is still 2007. It hasn`t done amazingly well as, to be quite honest, PC games hardly EVER do well in Japan. There just aren`t a lot of PC gamers.
This is a port of the game to the 360. As I can see, a pretty direct port. Nothing more than a port, and it is being presented as a port - not a new game.
The monthly cost of playing the game is a total of around $15... If you don`t have an Xbox gold membership. That price *includes* the cost of a membership. If you already have one, it will be around $6/month.
Everyone seems to think that there are no Xboxes in Japan, or that nobody plays it over here... but I`d say that 1.3million isn`t exactly a nonexistent market.

More MMOs need to be on the console. Games like these open up that venue.
There is no MMO out there right now that is worth $15 dollars a month. Hopefully, BioWare's SWTOR can fix that.

You guys have noooo idea as to how popular MHFO is in Japan...
I tell you that because I am a current MHFO player for PC and again, this new addition to Xbox 360 is for Japan only, they plan on integrating the PC with Xbox servers together. As far as fees go, it is 1400yen for 1 month sub of MHFO along with 30 days of Gold membership.

While I will likely buy another 360 to play this game (If it comes out in North America), I can't help but feel like this reeks of another "Bought franchise" from Microsoft. Like they're trying one last-ditch gambit to win over the Japanese populace.
But regardless, more Monster Hunter is good.

Too bad it won't be coming over here.
Capcom has stated numerous times that they would not bring Frontier over here due to different costs.

dammit! i wanted to play this, but of course, it's on 360 only. wow. so now the PS3 is the only console without a monster hunter game on it. make an HD monster hunter for PS360 with online co-op play, and i'll be the happiest guy on the planet...

If you take at look at the lost planet graphics and this, it looks like a peice of crap. It looks like your playing the psp version. But the thing is, when i played monster hunter i sort of forgot about the graphics. It sometimes doesn't need those stunning visuals to make a good game.
Take a game like gears of war, first time i played it i couldn't stop admiring the graphics, but after a while, nothing compares to the gameplay.
Didn't we all enjoy the ps1 :?

... About time! I've been bored to death with unite, freedom 2 and freedom 1.
I have done everything on all of them (sigh)... Wish they would bring out this game now... in the west of course. 8D
