Video: Augmented reality meets Virtual-On
20
Project Natal? Sony's Motion Controller/Arc/Whatever It's Called? Psshht, whatever. They've got nothin' on the ARToolKit augmented reality Virtual-On demonstration we just watched. Spotted by Mecha Damashii, the tech demo gets our hearts all aflutter with the prospect of fighting a tiny mech while running from room-to-room in our apartment, dodging lasers. We hear those things are bad news! (Lasers, that is.) Regardless, if the video after the break doesn't get your heart racing, you should probably call a doctor -- you might be dead.

I'm just afraid of how that Dreamcast transformed into a 360. I don't need, "Consoles in Disguise."

Indeed, but is it a Segabot or a Microsofticon?

thats not really that impressive, seeing how far something is away from you with a pointing device is already available and has been for awhile... and i cant tell whether the robot is always a robot that can fire lazer beams where ever the pointer is or only when its highlighting the robot....

It's not just seeing how far away something is, it's a complete relational understanding of the position and orientation of the pointing device (and anything else that you want to put a symbol-covered tile on or next to) in a 3D space, thus allowing the rendering of artificial elements in that space without compromising the percieved perspective of that space.

I would have liked to see the bot blast his lasers sooner. Would have made it more exciting.
