Is the slowdown and tearing as bad as in Assassin's Creed 2?

I'm actually thinking of getting this game now it has been "fixed".

watched a comparison video, the loading is really the only thing i'd say is truely a problem. visuals, a bit different but honestly? side by side is the only way i'd know. game looks fun though, probably will pick it up eventually for the pstriple.

AC2 on PS3 has really bad tearing and also low framerates at times. Some people don't even notice it, but I'm really sensitive to this type of issues, and some reviews also mention it. Kind of ruined the game for me.

The only problem I even noticed with AC2 on PS3 was when the levels get "built" it slows down and takes forever. I don't remember seeing any tearing.

Now for Bayonetta, the 360 version looks significantly better than the (PS3 demo). The demo was pretty bad and after reading reviews I picked it up for 360 instead - I'm assuming the full game is basically the same as the demo in terms of quality.

I beat AC2 on PS3 and didn't find it to be that bad. But yea more noticeable than on better games like Uncharted 2. That been said, its cool this patch is out to fix the loading, i'd like to see a new review to see if it fixes it.

That's good news.

Now, any word on that impending Darksiders patch for x360?

Yes there is. It's either on it's way, or live now. I don't remember the details of the article.

Too little too late. This game drove me mad with it's horrendous load times and clunky interface. It's like they developed the menus in 1990.

Apparently we have another Co-op watcher/Rebel.FM listener here.

I have no idea where those guys are coming from. AC2 plays and looks find on PS3. I never noticed ANY tearing at all, and the frame rates, while not at the level of a 1PS are plenty high enough to play the game. The only real difference is that you do see textures phase in on walls of buildings on the PS3. If you can ignore this (I managed), there's no problems the the PS3 version.

For those who don't listen to these shows, the co-op guys harp on this all the time and in face on the Rebel.FM 50th episode, they were on there and were relating their "biggest gaming regrets ever". One guy says "I regret trading in my NES/SNES", another says "I regret that my girlfriend lost my Dreamcast and all my 25 DC games". And a third says "my biggest regret is I bought AC2 for PS3 instead of 360". Give me a f-- break. Not only is the difference minor, but that's only a $30 mistake anyway (he traded it in for half price and bought the 360 version the next day). What a drama queen.

(What gives, joystiq is holding comments for swear words now? reposted)

I'm sorry but how did you not notice the framerate in Assassins creed 2? In crowds in got really bad but even just running along rooftops it would randomly drop. Also there was screen tearing but it wasn't too bad.

You didn't notice any screen tearing in AC2 on the PS3? Are you blind?

There is tearing in both versions. While I do like the lens of truth, I can't stand how washed out they make the PS3 versions look. I know they are capturing the source and blah blah...but there are settings to adjust that easily fix those problems. Every 360 image looks like the blacks are getting crushed and they call it better shadows.

Pretending that the PS3 version of AC2 is unplayable, is ridiculous.

What do you mean not notice the framerate? I noticed it wasn't 60 fps. But like I said, it's not like it's a first person shooter, I don't need 60fps to play this game which has crummy swordfighting. The only times I noticed annoyingly low frame rate was during pre-determined sequences (like while you actually knifed someone to assassinate them), and I presumed this was one purpose (to look slow-mo).

I played AC1 on 360 and AC2 on PS3 and I didn't feel like the frame rate was impeding me in any way in AC2 on PS3.

I didn't notice any tearing either. Maybe there was some and I just didn't notice. Can tearing really be a huge deal if I didn't notice it and it didn't impede me?

It's still ridiculous that devs can't make games smooth on PS3 off optical. I can play Burnout: Paradise without an install, but not Bayonetta or Hot Shots Golf?

lazy lazy lazy devs.

Exactly! I love how Sega is this willing to rectify Platinum Game's incompetence. Shows they're a company who care.

Sega are actually rectifying their own mistakes, as they were the ones who ported it to PS3 and not PlatinumGames.

Nice. Just beat this game last night and am looking forward to playing through it more. Though, not sure how much it will help. I remember playing half of Valkiria Chronicles without the install, then the last half with the install and I literally couldn't tell the difference. That being another Sega offering it makes me wonder what to expect here.

@acefondu: If I remember right, the only thing doing the install on Valkyria Chronicles does is help with the time it takes to load a level or a game saved within a level, actual in game play is the same either way.
Back to Bayonetta, I may actually get this now since I don't have a 360. But of course Mass Effect 2 on PC must come first and by then maybe the Bayonetta price will have come down.

el serpiente: No. If you read my initial post, you can see that all I wanted to know is how Bayonetta performs on the PS3 before wasting my cash, since I don't own a 360.

I have no clue what you mean by "console warrior".

Its plays fairly well.

Ok, takes a while to load the game, and there always loading on the menu's, that was pretty stupid i must say. a simple menu with some option, why should it load all the time, why not just store it on the memory and just call it back whenever you need it? not load it each freaking time you press either start or select!!!!

How hard was to create a menu and a option variable where it would be stored and when you call for it just pop it up on the screen. Thats what i do on most of my mobile developed applications!!!!!

And also, even though it renders on 1080p perfectly, its not doing any AA, not even normal AA, you can see the jaggies on the game like if it was a wii game. Pretty sure this game plays better on a sdtv.

Its a shame, but SEGA did an awefull work porting this game. Just look at uncharted and god of war 3, we know the ps3 can do waaaaaaaaaaay better than that, but SEGA did a pretty bad work

Man, feels strange stepping up on the graphics and process department for a game its not on wii

Great news. Having played both versions, the erratic loading / load times in the PS3 version were more distracting than the actual framerate drops. It was the first time I was ever worried a single game was going to murder my BRD lens.

Definitely a step in the right direction. May also be a slight indication that hopefully we're not going to have to deal with this crap when the (potential) sequel rolls around.

The only real problem I've had with Bayonetta is the load times, which can be really ridiculously long at times, and not so bad at others. At least you get to practice moves while it loads. I'll be happy to get an install, though.

The only problem I had with AC 2 was when I was trying to get the kill 10 enemies trophy, using a smoke bomb and quickly killing about 5 enemies would make my system lock up, so I had to reset. This also happened in Ratchet and Clank, killing a whole bunch of enemies at once. Maybe it's just my system.

As much as I love Bayonetta (and I really love Bayonetta), the load times on PS3 are so bad that sometimes I don't concoct items/change accessories when I would usually want to because I don't feel like waiting for the effing screens to load. I can't say that's ever happened to me in another game.

Needless to say, this patch is more than welcome.

Yet ANOTHER reason that when you buy a multi-platform game....you go with the 360 Version.....

It was this way with the XBOX vs PS2........same for this generation.
