Well, the biggest difference to me is I'm actually considering the DSi XL since I still have the original DS. I'm not just blindly bashing the iPad... I'm sure it's a well-made piece of hardware... but I REALLY see NO need for it. I have a Droid, a MacBook, a gaming PC, a PS3 and a Wii... and that's already more than I need.

Next they're going to rebrand Mac OSX as "Apple iOS". Silly Jobs, what will you come up with next?

In regard to the title of this article, It's about damn time! I was confused and dismayed over the popularity of the DS lite over the DS phat. I couldn't understand why anybody would want to play games with a smaller screen than the one they already had. I was relieved when the DSi was about the same size as the original and even happier about the DSi XL!

Not that I'm interested in the ipad or anything. Just saying that I hope this trend of "small but not TOO small" keeps up.

"Did you see my iPad?"
"I'm just surfin my iPad"
"You probablly can't afford an iPad"
"Yes I have an iPad"
"No, you can't use my iPad, but you can watch me use it"
"Just downloadin some tunes on my iPad"
"Chillin with my iPad"
"I love iPad"
"Heh heh, you have a laptop? You should get an iPad."
"I like to pretend my iPad is my iPhones mommy."
"You can only play this game on iPad"
"iPad!, iPad!, iPad!, iPad!, iPad!, iPad!, "

I'm annoyed by it already.

The problem with that comment... is that it's going to be absolutely TRUE! The iPhone was just the start. This things going to destroy conversations for months to come!

really Joystiq? really? You have to make this comparison? Are you guys stupid or bored? Or both? I would prefer hearing about your opinion and experience with Mass Effect 2 than pointlessly comparing a DSi with an iPad.

Next on Joystiq. iPad vs Xbox 360 controller. Which one feels better in your hands?

Well, to me DSi LL makes sense. I never play my DSL on the go.
I always play at home, so for me it is a big advantage having the bigger version.

Well, but it is just me I think. :)

meh I'd take the DSi LL on the go .... unlike this generation I don't suffer from an apparent crippling degenerative lack of pockets.

Surprised they arn't crying because the iPod nano isn't subdurmal

You should have compared the resolution . That would have been funny.

iPad is a gorgeous high end screen, the DSixl is just blowing up the current ds screen

The iPad is so stupid and everyone knows it. Everyone knew that Apple would announce a tablet, but who would've thought it would be so awful? It's a tablet, but it's not really useful as a full computer (like most other tablets are). It seems like Apple just likes making products with limited capabilities because they know people will buy it. And people will buy it again when a better version of the iPad comes out next year.

(Random stream of complaints alert!)

$500 for 16Gb model, $600 for 32Gb and $700 for 64Gb. Give me a break.

Its just a bigger screen AND STILL NO D-PAD!!! And it runs the same apps as the iphone....how the hell are you gonna work that virtual d-pad on this thing?

Plus the moment you buy it, you cant carry it around without a really expensive laptop bag that won't scratch that screen. This is by far the worst idea apple has had yet. At least with the iphone or ipod touch you could just buy a carrying case and shove it in your pocket. This abomination isn't even portable.

Anyways, I'm sure many people are gonna go out and upgrade from an ipod touch to this thing....and then they'll get those lanyard headphones for it so they can wear it around their necks like jewellery (We've all seen these morons before!).

All I want before I die is to see someone accidentally drop one of these on the pavement while carrying it around as their iPod. OR just see someone walking around with one and then it starts to rain and watch them scramble for cover. Keepin' my fingers crossed til then!!

@Mal F4cti0n, theres a difference between the iPad and the Kindle, the Kindle uses e-ink same as alot of ebook readers, its very different to the LCD screen the iPad uses (e-ink is incredibly easy on the eyes whereas LCD is not for long periods of use).

Its unfair to compare one product which does 1 thing its intended to do incredibly well (Kindle) vs another which aims to do lots of things, but does none of them all that great (iPad). If you're looking to read ebooks, an actually ebook reader is alot cheaper and also alot better at doing the job. As for the browser, the lack of flash also means a laptop/netbook is better at doing the job of browsing the internet. For working, again if space is a requirement, a netbook is probably the better option - the touch screen will not be kind to the fingers for extended work use.

As for the gaming aspect of it, again, as with the other things, sure it does it, but unlikely all that well, definitly not to the standard a dedicated console/handheld will do it, so i dont think anyone has much to worry about, at least not until Apple no doubt introduce newer versions over the next few years (then maybe they might improve on what they've done to at least get close to competing with dedicated products).

Remember folks the iPhone got off to a bit of a slow start, as did the DS. Now look where we are. This is definitely a game changing device, just give the dust time to settle and I think we are in for a new direction in personal computing and gaming. Maybe not this iPad iteration but I can see the 2nd or 3rd gen iPad becoming the center of people's media life. Give it time people, give it time

what's the point of this anyway, its a big itouch, and it costs more than twice as much, TBH the zune HD looks like a more powerful option, it just doesn't have the billions of apps that itards will shove down your throat every time you try to compare apple and MS's portable touch-screen media devices
