It's not spoiling anything. If you bought the game you'd see this right away and realize why it's not spoiling anything. I won't go into specifics as to why it's not remotely spoiling anything in fear that I might have you thinking that I was spoiling anything in the game.

...

Spoiling anything...

I'd be impressed if the Normandy thing is still a spoiler to you, seeing as that was one of the first things Bioware and the game media spoiled when the game was officially unveiled at E3.

But I will say even though I knew it was coming, it was still unbelievable to watch and had me at the edge of my seat the whole time...and that was just the beginning 20 minutes or so.

I agree that this isn't really a spoiler because Bioware spoiled it so much themselves that it's practically common knowledge by now.

However, to say something isn't a spoiler because it happens right at the beginning of the game is just stupid. What does it matter where it happens in the game? It still greatly reduces the impact it has on you.

If I hadn't known about it, it would've been a "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT JUST HAPPENED" moment. Instead it was a "ok, we all know what's coming, let's get on with it" ordeal.

I really think Bioware screwed the pooch on that one. The beginning of this game had absolutely no impact on me, when if they had just kept their mouths shut about it, it would have seemed like a world changing event.

"Paid DLC Packs"

So... you're buying DLC to have DLC which doesn't exist yet or something?

Are we slowly losing our minds when it comes to video games?

It's free with every NEW copy! It's only paid for if you bought it used. Anything coming trough Cerberus WILL BE FREE and paid DLC will be available separately. There are hotlinks in the paragraph for a reason.

I have moved all my save files to a larger hard drive since I played Mass Effect 1, and I no longer have the original game disc.

Is it confirmed that I will not be able to import my character into Mass Effect 2, and has Bioware indicated whether they intend to fix that?

what do you mean?
you go to setup utility and the last tab is used to find your ME save files. so as long as you can navigate to your saves you can import and even then there are repositories for ME save with specific outcomes.

Copa is talking about the issue where you have to have completed the actual game on that hardware for ME2 to recognize it.

No, I don't think they've got a fix for it (or even if they intend to).

If you have a save of the game at the "Trench Run" in Mass Effect 1 you can finish the game in about a half hour from there.

That's what I did to solve this problem.

You of course would have to bum a copy off of someone or get it used.

I don't think Bioware considers it a problem so much as a feature to prevent people from just importing other people's save files. But like I said.. half hour from the Trench Run and your all set.

Not sure if this applies but I had absolutely no problems importing my 2007 save file into ME2 which was created on a different 360 and a different hard drive (upgraded to a 120GB).

Go rent the game or borrow it from someone you know. Load up the final save before you beat it. Beat the game. then you will be able to import no problem.

If you still have your ME1 disk, you can just load up a save right at the end of the game and playthrough the final battle again, and it will save the necessary "hidden" data on the new drive.

If you don't have your ME1 disk any more, but you still have your original hard drive, you can also start ME2 using the old hard drive, play to the first save point, and then transfer the ME2 save over the new hard drive and you're all set. That's what I did, and it worked for me.

I personally cannot wait for the download pack that removes the helmet from your character during cutscenes.

It is expected to arrive in July, and cost around 200 Microsoft points per suit of armor.

Hah no kidding. I'm not even going to bother with the DLC armor for this very reason. I'll just level up my normal armor like everyone else, even though I did pre-order the Collector's edition mainly for the bonus armors.

Fhaze, removing your helmet in all scenes is an option you access through a wardrobe... it's available right now. You can be hatless, somewhat-hatted, and fully-hatted. Although on hostile atmosphere planets I assume they'll hat you up regardless of your preferences.

@freaparn, he's talking about with the DLC armor. You can't change it to where you're not wearing a helmet, so in conversations and cutscenes, you're wearing a helmet. Or, if you're wearing a helmet for the stats, but don't want it to show during a cutscene or conversation, you can't do that. It's the reason I don't use the Terminus Armor, but I don't really mind cause I didn't pay anything extra for that armor or anything.

@Draimen Exactly. I have the Dragon Age, Teminus and Collectors Edition Armor. Looked at the lack of being able to remove the helmet and thought I should have just bought the regular edition. If I spend all that time creating my characters face, to hide it for most of the game just seems wrong. Oh well, I can't wait for the "no helmet during cutscenes" to be hyped in the Mass Effect 3 advertising campaign, something that of course was in Mass Effect 1 for all the armors.

Awesome, glad they got it out in a relatively short time. It also comes at a perfect time for me, as I just got to the 2nd disc last night and I have 6/10 party members so I can still get this guy and still have some game left over to get used to him.

Once I get Thane, my party's going to consist of nothing but pure badassery. Renegade Shepard, Thane, and Zaeed :D

That sounds almost as badass as the ME1 combo of Soldier-Shepard+Garrus+Wrex. Soldier-Shepard + "Bounty hunter who looks way too old to be 40" + "Fish-Face Assassin Guy"?

I just started replaying this game on PC and have been skipping everything about ME2 until I finish (stopped some point on the 360 version. No good reason why. :( ) at least one play-through on the PC, so the Normandy thing is actually new to me. Oh well. :)

Anyway, reason I am responding here... tmac, it seems you might like this Mass Effect 2 game (:P) and I am afraid of spoiling anything important to look this up myself, so I was hoping you could answer this for me. If I finish ME1 with a renegade character, does she automatically start renegade or go back to neutral in ME2?

It depends on what level your imported character is. They have different degrees of rewards for 40s, 50s and a 60. I imported my renegade 60 and I started at level 5 with about 150k credits (huge in the beginning of the game) and about 10k-15k of each mineral.

I got roughly 190 renegade points, which seems like a lot but the bar on the Squad screen looked like it had barely been filled. So you might start off the game with more renegade options in dialogue, but virtually everything you say in conversations gives you tiny amounts of renegade or paragon points so you can make it up very fast if you want to go paragon.

My level 59 Shepard imported at level 3 with...if I recall correctly...6 squad points? Something like that. I also received 5,000 of each of the game's four elements (platinum, iridium, etc.) and 130,000 credits.

According to the first Mission Completed screen, most of those credits come from importing an ME1 character who was "rich." So the credits you start with aren't necessarily tied to your ME1 character's level, but his/her amount of money.

It's sure been helpful for buying probes, fuel, and model starships for Shepard's quarters. :)

As a clarification to my earlier post: I think being "rich" in ME1 gets you 100,00 credits in ME2, plus additional credits based on your level.

Excellent! I will surely be rich because I always forget to equip my new weapons and then just sell them when I get to the Normandy.

Big kick in the ass just now. I ordered the PC version of ME2 CE hoping Amazon would take a couple of days to send with free shipping, but alas, it just arrived. Now, do I finish ME1 or start ME2 with a new save and play both side by side... if possible? o.o

I am really loving this game. Every mission for the main character is roughly 30-45mins and they are really interesting (lots of shooting though).
If this is any indication of the quality of games we will be getting in 2010, it's gonna be a heck of a year.
This game improves on everything the 1st one didn't deliver it. I saw a pop-in texture once in my 17 hours of game play (I think I am half way).
I can't wait to go home and play more of it.
Great job Bioware!
