Here's some encouraging news for those hoping that the PlayStation Motion Controller (pleaseannouncethenamealready!) will give a reason to knock the dust off your old PlayStation Eye. According to a Nikkei report spotted by Andriasang, the device, which pairs with the Eye, will have "around 10 or so games" by year's end, including sports and pet raising titles.
We've been disappointed by the game support for the Eye so far, outside of the ability to construct extensive scrotum-centric LBP sticker libraries. Here's hoping that these promised releases can take all the Eyes sitting on our shelves from novelty to necessity.

The PS3 motion control looks very promising to me. Gaming needs some button pressing no matter where the technology leads us. Its for this reason I'm not sold on Natal yet.

I vote we pass this waggle phase in gaming & go straight into the 3D stasis pods where I become the character & feel all the head-shots!

Once the initial wow factor wore off I've been thinking about Natal and the PMC.
Developers are drawn to the 360 and PS3 because the numbers are there for serious games. To make an Eye or Natal only game dramatically cuts down on the number of people it targets. Granted, like a launch title they're have a high percentage of users getting it, but the numbers may discourage a serious 3rd party must have game.
Hoping E3 proves me wrong.......

Buttons or not, you shouldn't have to look like you're dancing around with two ice cream cones in your hands to get good motion controls.

So if Natal incorporates a physical controller (or steering wheel) then how is it groundbreaking? It'll be doing the same thing the Wii and PS3 controller are doing.
Don't get me wrong, my curiosity is piqued about the Natal, I'm having a hard time seeing the applications for it that I personally would be interested in.

I didn't say Natal was any better. That's why I don't own a Wii, really - I just can't see myself jumping around my living room for a video game.
Of course, any comments pointing out how dumb the SMC looks get instantly down voted. Doesn't make it any less true, though.

@Kid Icarus - it would be different only in that it wouldn't rely on the controller for the motion detection.

So, you're saying that Natal should require us to hold a plastic steering wheel that does absolutely nothing. Nice.
If you really want to have something tangible in your hands, wait for the 3rd party accessories.

I think the problem with these new motion devices (including Natal) is the user interface/interaction. Not a fan of the Wii but I have to give it to Nintendo, their interface is very inviting and has a playful feel to it. I think Sony and Microsoft are focusing to much on the output of these devices rather than the input, if that makes sense. What I mean is, once you turn on your Wii, your are immediately in their "waggle interface". I can see Natal doing (as evident with the E3 video from last year with the GUI browsing) but I really can't see it with the Sony wand.

I remember seeing a video about one of Sony's eyepet/toy products showing the users moving slides and i pictured thats exactly how the MC will end up being like. So we use the control to move around the XMB and click things. I see it working well.

@Ben - they could actually use it in conjunction with traditional controls. You could throw your arm up (like a SWAT team leader) to signal your AI buddies, or move the controls around to angle your gun a certain way or perform a melee attack, for example.
Who knows if they'll ever do something like that, but it certainly would be possible.

Considering Natal syphons 10-15% from the CPU I'd say you won't see it incorporated with core games. Greenberg himself said they wanted unique Natal experiences. The whole point of the device is to remove the barrier of a controller. Why in the Eff would they want to go against the very fabric of the devices being? Makes no sense.

@ marty - The trouble with using it lightly in the games you mentioned is that you will lose 10-15% processing power when natal is tracking motion, on the top tier games you mentioned processing power is important. I'm not sure the developers would want to sacrifice for a few gestures.

Not necessarily, that may be including titles with patched in motion support, and there could be more of those than the ones announced.

Whatever games this thing (and Natal) launches with can really make-or-break it. They need to come out strong and show off some amazing things that go way beyond the Wii, and I mean a lot more than just better graphics.

My guess would be 3-4 "core" titles with the rest focused on smaller pick-up-and-play games (or "casual games" if you prefer).
As to what those core titles will be though is anyone's guess. They're going to have to launch with at least one FPS though. If not then I feel really bad for whoever has to feel the sting of this thing biting them in the ass.

They basically need to make a 'must have' game that can only be used with the motion controller. No pressure.
I just don't see that much interest in this from the 'core gamer' and the 'casual gamer' doesn't even seem to know about this or even care. The Wii is just too dominant. They have a huge hill to climb if they want to break into either one of those crowds. They need to convince gamers that it's not a gimmick and it adds to the game while appealing to others as a family-friendly alternative to the Wii... which everyone already owns. I dunno, like I said, I just don't see it. I'm definitely interested in seeing how Natal and this work and what games are available, but I just don't see it as a good move. I would've waited for the next gen consoles and just put this in from the start, fresh.

All I want is a good 1:1 motion slasher every time a motion controller was announced last gen I was like 'please be for a sword game' and then the wii came out and that had red steel but it wasn't 1 to 1 motion and it just pisses me off that such a simple idea hasn't been done.

Well with the way some titles are selling (in the UK atleast)... I can bet you there will be a Just Dance HD Remix, which promises to have 1:1 motion detection. So if you really can't dance, you're gonna suck big time in the game.

that kind of scares me. i can easily imagine 10 developers that would want to make quick and terrible games for it. I got an eye early on when i found out about this and that RE5 would use it.... RE4 wii edition was sooo much better because the motion controls

Either way, it's a good start, if even a handful of standout titles number among them.

games that are compatible with the PS Eye, either as mainstream or Add-on feature
Eye of Judgment (Card Game)
Eye Pet (Virtually beating your pet)
Aquatopia (fish aquarium... more like an interactive screen saver)
Singstar Series of PS3 (Records Video, Audio, and Pictures)
Buzz
Burnout Paradise
LBP
So far no shovel games, and as you can see each one is original in its way

You posted this, with the same exact picture too, four months ago, only then, you actually listed the titles. Sure, the PMC isn't on track for a Spring 2010 release anymore, but I don't think that's stopping the likelihood of patches to come out. In fact, I assume one of the main reasons of the delay is so that more titles can be available at/near launch instead of just one or two to begin with.

Feeling less and less interested in the PMC. I don't want party games. I want MC mainly for FPS. I was thinking I could get games that were full featured with DLC and voice(PS3) that had a better control system for me(Wii).

It's already been determined the PSMC will be backwards compatible with the existing catalogue in addition to PSMC only titles.

I feel the same way about the 360 cam. I bought it lickety-split when they said it would do 3D facial mapping... And then only one or two games EVER used it. Rainbow Six and Facebreaker. It sits collecting dust as well. What a waste.

I’m confused. If backward compatibility is on, then why wait to release it? I haven’t bought MW2, or any FPS, because I want motion controls for it. Sony has a great catalog of games already you use MC on. I think getting a jump on Microsoft would give Sony a great opportunity. I’m getting tired of the console makes fluffing their chests about some great product a year or two before it even comes out and then pushing back/over pricing it/not supporting it.

All I want is for Sony to integrate it well with an analogue stick. I just can't see them releasing the Gem as some individually used item where you have to use the DUALSHOCK III controller as a complement.
