If you haven't already been point-and-clicking away at Amanita Design's gorgeous adventure game Machinarium over the past few months since its digital release, you're gonna have even less of a chance to avoid it when it hits retail (in a box!) on March 5. Lace Mamba Global announced the re-release this morning, noting that the retail version comes packed with some extra bonuses -- a 54-page "concept art document" (seen below), a poster, a printed walkthrough and the game's soundtrack (standalone disc). If you needed any more reason to grab the $20 title, we have to imagine this bag full of goodies certainly can't hurt.

I like Ratchet & Clank, Bioshock, [any modern-day 3-D game], etc, but I'll always favor a good hand-drawn game with interesting/fun gameplay. This game fits the bill perfectly.

I rather like concept art. It gives you a visual window into the creative process behind the game, how they came to their ideas, and what "could have been" but was ultimately revised.
The MGS2 art book was fun to explore because of how many ideas got trashed when making that game, drawings of female Vamp, unused characters, etc.
It's like Developer Commentary in the form of "a picture is worth a thousand words".

So what is Machinarium, anyway? Is it an adventure game like Monkey Island, etc, or is it an "adventure game" like that Samorost-type bullshit? I swear I've never read a single thing about how it plays, just OH WOW SO INNOVATIVE and SO CHARRRMING~

Brilliant game, with great puzzles. Definitely a few steps above Samorost 2 in terms of how much control you have in each screen, but if you thought Samorost was bullshit you won't enjoy it in the slightest.

I didn't like samorost 2 and I loved Machinarium. Machinarium has a coherent world, story and puzzles while samorost just seems like someone's lsd trip half the time.

It is an infinitely more involved game than Samorost, so I'll definitely concede that appreciation of that game isn't required. But it's still not going to win anyone over looking for a narrative driven graphic adventure game like Monkey Island or Beneath a Steel Sky.
Listing two ends of the point-and-click adventure game spectrum and calling one of them "Bullshit" though is enough to throw one off. Especially considering Machinarium is much closer to the "bullshit" end than it is to Monkey Island.
Try the demo though, it'll be enough to form a decent opinion towards the game. You'll be able to decide for yourself whether you like it or not.

Wasn't bad. It's definitely better than Samorost, since it had actual puzzles rather than "CLICK EVERYTHING UNTIL SOMETHING WORKS". Still not worth 20 dollars, but for sure not as bad as I was expecting from reading your post.
As an aside, I liked the artwork but I'm still not a fan of that Flash-esque animation. The backgrouns were very nice, though.

it's definitely more adventure game than samorost surreal click-and-see-what-happens type of thing. You control the robot and go around town solving puzzles. The puzzles are a mixture of regular adventure game puzzles (find the fishing pole and give it to the fisherman) and mechanical puzzles (slider puzzle, pipes puzzle).

I sure think it's worth the $20. I paid less cause of the steam sale but overall it's worth it. The game is clever, interesting and unique. I mean it's not very long and it IS a point and click but it has such a great atmosphere....very well designed game.
You could always try the demo and see if you like the game.
