Or you could just use your PSP or DS or mobile or Iphone or Ipod. Almost every portable console is capable of playing Roms. I can personally play pretty much everything from the old arcade machines right up to the PS1 on my PSP.

True. However, not all of those have a TV-out (DS does not for example). And some lack the portability (big consoles). So you can´t just take them to a friends TV in your pocket ;)
