Screw gaming, that's what I have consoles for...

The majority of "adults" that would buy this are probably not going to do it for gaming purposes.

Joystiq, your mistake was putting "want" and "iPad" in the same sentence, without a "not".

One word:

Osu!

http://osu.ppy.sh/ (already has a homebrew iphone version)

Of course, I wouldn't bother without a stylus anyway.

Of course, even with a stylus, I'd rather just get a tablet PC anyway.

Still, Osu! and its massive song/beatmap library is pretty much the only that's made me want an iPhone/Touch/Pad

I have to say, I never cared for the iPhone or iPod touch, most definately not for gaming, but this one looks like a reeeeal nice internet-tablet to have laying around the house (Apple, seriously, add flash) or waste some time with at school. As for games, there might be a few nice ones to convince me, but there's one game that would instantly make me slap 500 bucks on the counter for this one:

Age of Empires 2

Seriously, if they do that, I'll instantly stop all my apple-hating for their crappy overpriced hardware and horrible OSes (some love 'em, I don't) and tell the church to sanctify Jobs.
The one dream I've had in mind for years is playing Age of empires 2 on a device like this!

Why don't you get the HP Slate? Although there is no price yet, it will run Windows 7 so you can get your game on it with little trouble.

By the looks of it, Ruse would do pretty well on this format. I hope that Ubisoft is listening and they decide to port the game to the iPad.

That would depend on whether the slate has
- An IPS-panel, like the iPad
- A lower price point than 500 bucks Or
- Some pretty decent hardware (meaning: better than first or second-gen Atom)

"That one on the iPhone where it looks like you're drinking a beer: Dude: Giant beer."

L. O. L. Seriously, I laughed so hard, I got kicked off the comp I was on at the library.

Cheers, Joystiq.

I once read an article on Ars about running old school RPGs like Fallout on a tablet. If that came to the iPad I may seriously have a hard time saying no to picking one up.

I hear you on the real time strategies.

On a similar vain, a *good* version of Sim City would be fantastic (by good, I mean one that doesn't slow down to a glitchy mess once you get a city of any decent size).

Oh, and a massive version of Eliss.

Almost all of these are already available on PC, and full tablet pc's or netbooks with touchscreen kits are already readily available for cheaper than the ipad. It might not be as pretty but it's a helluv a lot more functional and practical. And there are more "apps" then the iphone will ever have.

It's funny how people are comparing this to most netbooks or notebooks. It's a damn e-reader on steroids. Compare it to kindle or nook and see how it stacks up...

It doesn't have an e-ink screen, it's not an e-reader. The whole point of the kindle and nook is that they have screens that don't create eyestrain and provide a reading experience similar to reading a book. The iPad has a similar form factor but it is in no way an e-reader. Sure, it'll read e-books, but so will a netbook. That doesn't mean it competes with things like the kindle.

So basically it's stuck in that odd middle ground of being a more than capable book reader with some good additional options or a multi touch tablet with interesting ideas but flawed execution. Should be interesting to see how the PC tablets fare. I'd still be weary of breaking the damn screen every time I took it anywhere hahaa

Comparisons to consoles rather than netbooks is probably more appropriate here.

PS3 and Wii's browsers support older Flash (which means outside of YouTube and a few older sites, they really don't really support it either)

Seems the control over content is probably the biggest reason. And this can of worms is probably the very reason why you don't see a browser on the X-Box 360.

Makes me wonder if Microsoft will go the iPod/iPad route with Windows Mobile 7 based hardware when that's released later this year. At least that will have Silverlight.

I want an awesome version of Critter Crunch. That would be the bees knees. The one on there right now is pretty good, but the one on the PS3 is frickin' incredible.
