You're lucky, I already regret having a Wii. If it wasn't a x-mas gift I'd probably sell it and get some of the big games coming out this year but even I'm not THAT big of an asshole to sell a gift.

tmac I thought you bought your Wii. I mean you bought it once before but ended up getting the cash back due to the postal error, so I guess I thought you once again saved up to give it another honest shot.

Are you saying that you're only keeping it cause you'd feel bad selling it? So if you'd paid for it yourself it would've already been at the nearest GameStop in the used bin?

If that's how you feel about it you might as well sell it. I think it's better to get something you like by selling it rather than holding onto something you hate because you feel obligated to.

I did try to buy the wii last time but like you said the post office lost it and refunded me, which I then used that money to buy a bunch of psn games (an equally stupid move, I don't even play any of those games anymore).

The Wii I actually got was a x-mas gift from my mom, and I'm not going to get rid of it for (if I'm lucky) half of what she just paid for it a month ago. I'll hold onto it and just hope something good finally comes out :\

I can't even get into it with tmac anymore.

Anyone that doesn't earn their own money (on top of still receiving video game consoles as Christmas presents from their MOM) is just insignificant.

Which begs another, greater question:

Joystiq, is there a 25 and older Joystiq-beta in the works? Or something? Anything??

Funny how you ask for a 25 and up Joystiq when you still act like a wigger at that age. High school's calling to let you know that you've been out of it for a long time now.

The iPad will have similar success.

Compare the comments about Nintendo's "Revolution" to the comments about the iPad.

On the controller:

"Are you serious?"
"Goodbye Nintendo. R.I.P. 2006."
"What the F*** is Nintendo thinking? It's ugly and it looks like a wierd t.v remote"

"The Nintendo Revolution controller -- no, really!"
http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/15/the-nintendo-revolution-controller-no-really/

On the name "Wii":

"This can't be serious."
"Give me a break. I want to take a Wee on Wii."
"Wiik! Maybe they should just give up on consoles and sell software like Sega."

"Nintendo Wii -- the Revolution gets a real name"
http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/27/nintendo-wii-the-revolution-gets-a-real-name/

The iPad is revolutionary. It's rough around the edges, just like the Wii is, but it will shape technology to come, just as the Wii caused Sony and Microsoft to create motion sensing controllers.

Well I might believe that if it were anything more than an oversized iPod Touch an ebook reader and popup navigation. Almost everything you can do on an iPad you can also do on an iPod Touch or iPhone.

It's not a bad device by any stretch of imagination, but it certainly seems like a device with an identity crisis.

It was revolutionary when they announced it as the iPhone and released it in 2007. Now it's just another revision of their current hardware. I'd call it... an "iPod Touch v1.3 XL".

I don't think you can compare the two. As Tmac put it - the thing is really an oversized ipod touch with the ability to read e-books. The Wii was 'two cubes taped together' but it still did something very different. I don't see many people dropping their netbooks for this device. Maybe their Kindles... but that's a small piece of the pie for this kind of investment.

"#38 c'mon man for them to be so seceritive and so Revolutionary and them come up with a REMOTE CONTROL as a game controller. Pleasae this is ugly and you can't tell me it's revolutionary...it's just a can of soup re-packaged....and I know a ton of kids will lose that thumb attachment the first week of christmas"

SoulBlade,

"I don't think you can compare the two."

Of you can. I just did.

The iPad is the first computing device designed primarily for viewing information. That's what makes it revolutionary and unique. The iPod and iPhone are focused on audio. Laptops and desktops are focused on creating information. Game consoles are focused on games. eReaders focus on text, but that's not enough.

I'll be buying an iPad as soon as I can.

reader1 - can you address the 8 things that suck about the iPad article? Some of those are pretty big deal breakers if the thing wants to replace netbooks. Even if the thing gets Flash, it will still suffer compared to Ion based netbooks (which will still be cheaper). Additionally, the iPhone OS is garbage for a real computer device. If you're happy with the iPad being a large iPod touch, then that's fine. I expected more.

I know you compared them - but I think it was a bad comparison. Totally different spaces and the iPad doesn't really revolutionize anything in the space its entering. Just my opinion.

Okay:

Big, Ugly Bezel - True, v2's will be thinner. No big deal.
No Multitasking - Future OS versions will have multitasking. No big deal.
No Cameras - Again. future versions will likely have it, but I don't care.
Touch Keyboard - It's primary function is viewing information, not creation.
No HDMI Out - Um, what?
The Name iPad - "Huh, huh, Wii. Get it? Wii?!. Wanna play with my Wii?!!"
No Flash - That hasn't kept the iPhone/iPT from succeeding, it won't hurt the iPad either.
Adapters, Adapters, Adapters - Again, what?
It's Not Widescreen - The iPad is not an HDTV replacement. Irrelevant.
Doesn't Support T-Mobile 3G - T-Mobile's still in business?
A Closed App Ecosystem - That's why the iPhone/iPT has such strong developer support. An open "ecosystem" would kill App sales.

haha i find it hilarious that you're already talking about version 2. that immediately means version 1 is inadequate.

you claimed the thing was for viewing information - uh about 70% of all video sites are done in Flash... sucks to not be able to view those things. Also widescreen is a really big deal for videophiles.

The closed app ecosystem is awful. I want to choose the apps I work with. Apple just wants a cut for anything that runs on it.

And where do you get your info about future multitasking support? It's the 4th iteration of the OS and it's still nowhere to be found. Don't you realize they cut it for performance reasons? I'm not sure you know what you're talking about anymore, but most fanboys don't... esp Apple ones.

I finally got a Wii for my son and I this Christmas. Its been fun, but hasn't been turned on for the past couple of weeks. Kinda figured this would be the case, since the games on the xbox appeal to both of us more. I don't regret buying it, since I didn't expect it to become my main console. Its ok, but I don't feel like I'm really in the target demographic. And my son is certainly a chip off the old block in that respect

So wait, I just have to ask. It's only been about a month since Christmas, but you say you haven't turned it on in weeks... did you really burn through all the blockbuster titles in less than a week?

I mean even if you only stopped playing it two weeks ago, that isn't really indication of it's target audience. Hell, I haven't touched my Xbox 360 in weeks, and my PS3 for almost 2 weeks now, but I still them both dearly.

I gotta say, this almost sounds like a thinly veiled attempt at trolling. I hope I don't sound rude or angry, but the way you word it it really does sound like you played it for a week then just set it aside to collect dust.

Not trolling, just telling you what's going on in my house. And blockbuster titles or not, if they don't interest me i'm not going to play them.

As far as the target audience goes, all I said was I don't feel like i'm in it. Its a cool system, just not my cup of tea. Its something I'll play when I need a change of pace from my normal gaming habits.

No harm no foul, I got what I expected and Nintendo got my money

Oh, well okay.

I guess I'd be the same way, but that's why I haven't made the investment yet. The motion controls so far haven't interested me, and as much as I love their games, I can't see myself spending $200 on a console just for a handful of games built around a control scheme I'm not fond of.

I was just curious why you bought it if you weren't expecting to like it, but you explained, so it's all cool.

you can blame that on Ubisoft. those SOB's hardly even advertise the game. I'm almost always watching T.V. and i haven't seen any commercials for the game. maybe the commercials air on other channels that i don't watch but so far i haven't seen diddly squat for NMH2:DS. which sucks cause i have the game and it is AWESOME! although i have seen ads for the game on sites like Gamefaqs, GoNintendo, NintendoEverything and Destructoid.

I've been reading all the reviews and apparently NMH2 is actually pretty amazing. Lots of games came out that day that would have got more attention, but like Tmac said, ME2 kind of owned that day. I hope it does well though. I'll be picking it up since I really liked the first one and this one is supposed to be much better but I will be waiting for a while until I've had my fill of ME2.

Ubisoft didn't advertise the first NMH, either. They actually explicitly said they weren't going to advertise it because they were afraid of the negative publicity they might get from advertising such a violent game on the Wii.

So...the lack of awareness isn't exactly expected.
