Netflix may not have a home on the PS3's XMB, but that hasn't hindered Netflix's success on Sony's console. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter told Industry Gamers that "the recent PS3 partnership is driving significant subscriber growth" to Netflix's subscription services. Netflix will likely benefit even further when the service becomes a standalone app on the OS. Pachter reiterated that the Netflix disc will no longer be necessary by the end of this year. "Netflix's exclusive relationship with Microsoft on the Xbox 360 will end in November (after two years), allowing the service to be accessed via the PS3 dashboard later this year."
Twelve million members currently use Netflix, and the service is likely to expand even more once it transitions to the Wii. Sure, a smaller percentage of Wii owners are likely to be interested in the service, but with Wii's billion-strong user base, there's bound to be some traction.

I am a proud user of this service, although I had Netflix before they came out with the PS3 disc. Now I don't have to stream it to my PS3 with playon... and the videos can be in pretty HD!
Still, I wish the audio wasn't 2 channel.

I remember that video they showed last time where he said "I always have Last.FM playing in my house"
..When its a catalog tracking music that collects information off your own music playing habits. Granted, there's places to hear music on it, but that's still contributing and secondary to the point of the website.

Yeah, but that's because the 360's interface has ALWAYS been the Dashboard. The PS3's interface has always been the XMB.

Having Netflix streamed through my PS3 isn't all that great, there are still way too many movies NOT available for streaming not to mention if you want to watch a tv series for a lot of shows they only have SOME of the episodes availible for streaming. If you want to watch the whole season you have to wait for it in the mail.

Also, what is his fetish with Netflix? Like everything he says is him jerking off over Netflix.

Goddamn.
Thank you, Pachter.
Maybe now people will understand that the PS3 has to use a disc because of the agreement between Microsoft and Netflix.
If they COULD have put it on the XMB, they would have. I don't know why that's so hard to understand for some people.

I hope when they offer a standalone app we can use remoteplay. I'm sure that would impact their subscriber growth.

Hate to break the news to you guys, but Microsoft didn't invent the name "dashboard" to refer to a control panel on a computer. In fact, there have been entire applications named "Dashboard" that preceded Microsoft's effort..

So, I think Pachter wins his defense by default.

I'm sorry, was I impolite? It's a generic term, like menu. XMB is
the "proprietary" acronym. I guess you think Apple owns the word
"Dock", too, right? If you say "The Xbox360 Dashboard", then it's
specific.
Oh, and since you're already bashing me, let me be a sport and give you cause.
You're a douche. And if you think Blogsmith has a great UI, you're an
even bigger one. Google something like "configure dashboard" and get a
clue.

"The XMB is just that. No one calls it dashboard."
Google up PS3 dashboard and you'll get over a million results. I honestly can't believe you've never heard this before. And although Sony themselves almost always refers to it as the XMB, you can see one instance where they call it the dashboard here:
http://www.us.playstation.com/PSN/Store/10268
Notice the description of the first MW2 wallpaper:
"Customize your PS3 dashboard with this custom Modern Warfare 2 wallpaper designed by developer Infinity Ward."

Pure numbers-wise, Wii-Netflixers may outnumber PS3-Netflixers, but percentage-wise? How many Wii-owners are using their Wii as a media player? The PS3 plays DVD's, movies, blu-rays, video files, and has a movie/tv-show store. I'd say a much larger percentage of PS3 owners buy their PS3 to watch movies, therefore a larger percentage will probably be interested in Netflix.
Retirement homes are a significant demographic among Wii owners. That's already a certain percentage of owners that probably won't use Netflix. Maybe the Nintendo kiddie-demographic will make up for it? There's probably lots of cartoons they can stream, right?

I have Netflix on PS3 and 360 and I hope PS3 gets the updates 360 did for the interface. It's so awful on PS3 right now w/ no browsing options.

Yeah maybe I should have made it numbers and not percentage, but either way my point is the gaming console Netflix appears on is inconsequential. Netflix has 12 million subscribers, and I'm positive millions own a Wii. Whether they play the games on it or it's collecting dust has little to do with Netflix suscribers sparking it up to watch it on their tv.
