Pitch a no-hitter in MLB 2K10, get a million bucks

Your mom may have told you that playing those video games would never get you anywhere, but she'll have to apologize for the rest of her life if you win 2K Sports' MLB 2K10 million-dollar giveaway. The developer is offering up Dr. Evil sums of money to the first person on the Xbox 360 or PS3 (sorry, those are the only qualifying consoles) who can pitch a perfect game in the first 60 days of the game's release -- starting March 2, 2010 at 12:01 AM PST and ending on May 2, 2010 at 11:59 PM PDT. Of course, where there's free money, there are caveats.

Two stipulations: You have to play against the CPU in MLB Today mode, where it will automatically default to all of the proper gameplay settings; and you have to record yourself pitching the entire perfect game and slap it onto a DVD. 2K Sports has actually tapped Twin Galaxies for some help on the authentication part, so keep in mind that those guys over there are very good at sniffing out the bad eggs. We suggest you make your friend Tom Foolery wait outside while you attempt to pitch a perfect game, because any kind of tampering or trickery will only get you disqualified.

Fantastic. So All I have to do is videotape myself playing hundreds of games with no pausing or anything that could be viewed as an opportunity for cheating on the off chance I might pitch a perfect game? Sign me up.

This is just stupid. Why didn't they just set up an online tournament with the appropriate gametype/settings?

Are you telling me they can't set up a gametype against the computer and have the stats/game data upload to their server? This is 2010 right?

they're doing it this way so they don't really have to pay out the money (hence the bad egg sniffers) and just getting people to buy the game. once they get that dvd, they can do anything they want to DQ people.

Considering all the hacks that exist nowadays? It'll probably be done before the game's actual release date.

Very interesting PR stunt. Sell more copies of the game because people think they have a chance to win - although the process sounds way too convoluted.

This is a great contest, but it's been implemented horribly. Why not just have a built-in stat tracker that sends such important information to 2K Sports? That makes too much sense...

I will still buy MLB The Show 10 over this.

Agreed. The chance at a million bucks really isn't worth it when playing this game. You'll lose regardless.

Of course, the flipside is they ignore all the skipping in my gameplay footage and award me the money anyway.

Note to whomever wrote the headline: technically a perfect game IS a no-hitter but a no-hitter is NOT necessarily a perfect game. Perfect game means no one reaches base; you can pitch a no-hitter but still have guys on base (or even score, potentially).

I meant a video-game based contest open to the public based on a single accomplishment... not necessarily a no hitter... not necessarily a sports game... not necessarily from 2ksports...

Key To Success

1. Rent the stupid game
2. Aim at the batter and smoke him (dont smoke the bat)
3. Record it all From Main menu to "Leave Game"
Maybe purchase a easycap off of ebay lol

You've still gotta record outs, plunking and walking everyone doesn't get you an automatic no-hitter.

Which is irrelevant anyways because it still wouldn't be a perfect game.

I don't care if 2K sports gave away 1,000,000 dollars for turning on your xbox. They have done such a sh*t job with NBA 2K10 that I will never buy another 2K sports game.

2K10 released in October 2009 and mid to late January 2010 the patch to fix broken achievements was released. In addition, the patch exacerbated problems with other game modes. The professional leagues just need to take away their licensing agreements.

I have despised 2K for a long time, but I just picked up NBA 2k10 a couple weeks ago and I think it's easily the greatest basketball game ever made... I wasn't around for it from day one to know about any early bugs it had but I've had no problem with it at all

Huh? The NBA doesn't have an exclusive licensing agreement. There's an EA Sports NBA game as well. What are you whining about, exactly?

I hope they don't do a drug test after the winner is announced. I don't want to go down in history as the first gamer to be accused of doping.

Dock Ellis pitched a no-hitter against the Dodgers back in 1970 while under the influence of LSD. True story. Oddly, LSD is NOT considered a performance-enhancing drug.

Is there an underhand lob button? If so, I'm pretty sure I could call in the outfield and execute this no problem. It'd be the most boring game of baseball imagineable.

MLB 2K series has been utter trash for five years now. This sounds like another trash game.

I thought last year's game was going to be the last 2k baseball game? Did I miss something or did I just have it wrong to begin with?

It's a trap. The game is programmed so that if you happen to get the first 26 outs you need, your defense will commit an error to stop you from getting the 27th.

Flyball? The outfielder will drop it.
Grounder? The infielder will either boot it or overthrow 1st.
Strikeout? The catcher will drop the ball.

This "feature" will of course magically deactivate after the entry period for the contest has expired.

Am I the only one hoping for an Xbox Live Arcade release of the NES RBI Baseball with updated rosters?

they have temco superbowl updates that are playable on emulators so why not

I hate to state the obvious here, but wouldn't it be pretty freaking easy to doctor a video of this?

They seem to be afraid that someone would find and fake the Achievement/Award logic if they implemented it that way, plus the whole disqualification thing that might save them the bucks. Maybe they are also scheming with Sony to wear out video cameras to increase sales?...

It's a perfect game. Not a no hitter.

i pitched a perfect game on 2k9 once. But it was with my create a character... and his stats were maxed out..... and i think an opposing team member reached first base but the game didn't notice it.... it was glitchy. but the pitching mechanics are different in this one so we'll see.

Something glitchy about a 2K sports game??? No, that's impossible. Oh wait, no it's not.
