"MAG is one of the most ambitious, innovative games I've played over the course of the past year -- and considering the past year has seen the introduction of a disc-jockey simulator"

A dis-jockey simulator in 2009 is INNOVATIVE?
Joystiq, meet Beatmania - a game that came out more than 10 years ago.

What is funny about a great game making more money? I would approve of this company sticking around longer than not.

I would really love this game if it weren't that it looks horrible (graphically).
Graphics from the vids look like Socom 2.
(which isn't bad, just old..... and I woul hope it playd as well as Socom 2 rocked).

By the wy, what team are you... SVEN, Raven, or Gryffindor?

Can you see the other soldiers well enough to shoot them and to prevent them from shooting you?

If the answer is yes (and it was for the beta), then the graphics are fine.

Honestly, I think the biggest problem facing MAG right now is how *over* populated the SVER faction is. Raven is behind SVER by around... 2000 players, or something. Valor is the middle ground between them, but yeah. SVER has *so* many people, that even on domination, they're usually running 5-6 separate games while Raven has 1 to 2 teams tops, and Valor fills out the rest of those slots. Sabotage, SVER is usually at around 4k, Raven is pushing 2.5-3k. Acquisition is like the only one where Raven's are usually highest, and that's the highest skill oriented one it seems besides the full scale Domination war efforts. Domination is *crazy*. But yeah. I'd just like to see a little more evenness in the team numbers, just to make the games easier to be cycling and moving.

What an excellent review. I'm not cogent enough right now to say why, but this was very impressive and journalistic.

Steep learning curve, online only, team-oriented.. sounds a lot like Counter-Strike to me. Which is good. While I also sucked terribly at CS in the beginning and was frustrated because I got constantly killed, I experienced some of the most satisfying online games with it when I finally got a grip on it - and a good team to play with.

If MAG is anything like that, only more so, I'm all for it.

MAG is the worst most unrealistic shooter as far as graphics and gameplay I have ever played ... I sold this game after 24 hours...you'll find yourself saying "I might as well play MW2" the character building concepts and weapon system is decent the teamwork aspect is good in THEORY but online has many idiots. Graphics wise this game is a complete failure. Overall actually this game has FAIL. written all over it.

We will all be better off when the MW2 children go back to their dog of a game so they can all go akimbo and drop infinite care packages until their eyeballs explode.

If you're actually a hardcore FPS fan waiting for the REAL sequel to BF2/2142 - here it is. Straight up - this is the shiz.

DICE may have sold its soul, but Zipper is here to save the day.

I just picked up MAG this weekend and I fully agree with the review. It's a great game in theory but most of it's flaws relies not on the game but more the reliance on a good team. So, really, it just makes me sad I don't have friends that are better at FPS :)

Truthfully though, as good a game as MAG could be, I see myself running out of steam soon simply because of the stacked odds I'm facing. Again, entirely something on my shoulders as I just don't have the network of gamer friends good enough and on a schedule where I can reliably play well.

I think the one point that may keep me going is that if you're a good medic, it makes life a lot easier on you as from what I've seen, the good squads on your server will be inclined to want to group with you / friend you which has already worked out well for me.

I think really this is where I'd love to see console FPS go versus the more 1-vs-1 FPS mentality. I absolutely love the fact medics can be lead scorer for doing a good job or that fulfilling objectives gives you recognition versus it usually being the guy that found the good sniper spot.

At any rate, if anything, it's forcing me hang out with better players.

The only negative thing I'd say is that grenade spam is awfully persistent however, I can't think of any modern warfare FPS that doesn't have this issue.

Hmm... I might try this as I prefer big games and hate being in teams that don't co-operate well. I like the idea of destruction and vehicles. This is why I like battlefield and may also purchase :-P
