BBC Worldwide explains to MCV that it's in "interesting discussions" about Doctor Who-based games that are "complementary to each rather than in competition." All we're going to say is that Telltale better be at the table for these discussions. A representative for BBC expressed that the series has "a huge shelf life going back 47 years – it's about managing and satisfying expectations of both older and younger audiences."
Apparently the Doctor Who game ideas involve "boxed product console games, virtual worlds and other experiences." With the long-running BBC series headed for a reboot later this year, with a new Doctor (who looks like he stumbled out of Skins) and show-runner, it'll be interesting to see if the fanbase follows and buys games for the series.

In a way, it's unfortunate that David Tennant was just THAT good because we all knew he'd leave eventually and given any fanbase made mostly of nerds, people are going to hate anyone who replaces him. I'm really looking forward to the next season cause I want to see what Matt Smith does with the role. Hopefully he'll make it his own instead of trying too hard to be David.

I actually liked Christopher Eccleston better than Tennant. More believable I guess.

I remember reading that when Hartnell got replaced by Troughton, some reviewers thought he was desecrating the role with his interpretation. But, that was the first regeneration. You'd think that by now, viewers would be used to a new Doctor completely different from the last one (the Sixth notwithstanding).

HA! I'll tell you what, hold that thought, and if, 40 years from now Torchwood is still around, and if it's got 750 or so episodes under it's belt, then there might be some merit to your preposterous claim. Except... we know that Doctor Who will still be around then, and it'll have 80 years under it's belt and probably ANOTHER 750 episodes on top of the existing stack.
Torchwood is good, but let's be serious, Doctor Who is the greatest fiction series the BBC has ever produced/created. The fact that it's been around for nearly 40 years is testament to that.

I have to resist the urge to punch a hole through my monitor. Those faces curiously enrage me. I'll go back to my doctor.

Just to nitpick, it's not getting a 'reboot'. It's just a Doctor Switch. Yes, this will be called 'series five', but that's because the brits don't call their seasons seasons.
This happens a lot. The only reason they started the numbering over, episode-wise, with the ninth doctor was because it had been fifteen years since they'd made any who episodes.

Its also getting a new head producer so the show is being run by someone totally more awesome. So its more than just a doctor change. A reboot though would mean going back to doctor 1 wouldn't it?

I'd probably do David Tennant, not sure about the new guy though.
They should probably resist the urge to do the obvious point and click. I'd go for a Kart Racer featuring all the Doctors, copy the Double Dash mechanic and have an assistant on the back of every kart.
Or a game where the Wii remote acts as the Sonic Screwdriver, press the A button and you win instantly whatever you are up against.

I ended up liking Tennant's Doctor a lot, but the guy playing the 11th looks too young in my opinion.
A Doctor Who game could be really fun, I kind of envision a sort of lighthearted Condemned. You'd have the Sonic Screwdriver and various timey-whimey detectors for the CSI stuff and you could replace beating homeless people to death with being cheeky.

I don't like the new doctor, but i hope it at least gives David scheduling space to play the riddler in Batman 3!

Does Tennant have the sort of status in the US that would allow him to be cast in Batman? Isn't the Riddler out as a villain anyway? I recall something being said about not using any more characters that had already been in previous films (not that I fully believed that anyway).

Did anyone really have super celebrity status when Batman Begins came out? Christian Bale had been in a lot, and so had Gary Oldman, but they both were more critical successes and not real celebrity household names. i don't think Chris Nolan would care about that sort of thing anyway, clearly acting skills and fitting the character are more important to him. I haven't heard anything aabout not using previous villains, I've only heard he doesn't intend to use the Penguin because he's too difficult to fit into the realism the series intends to portray

They should have a level where your game suddenly gets interrupted by a creepy guy wearing a Max Headroom mask:

Doctor Who, from what I've seen of the show, seems primed for Tell Tale-esque adventure game seasons, with some action elements included.
Also, I believe it's actually supposed to be Doctor Whom.

A Lego Doctor Who would heaps of fun, as would an action/adventure/rpg hybrid, something like the Assassin's Creed or Fable style.

A lot of people seem to be willing to dismiss the new doctor based on a minute of footage.
Matt Smith was chosen by Stephen Moffat and his team, surely that's good enough; being chosen by the guy who wrote 'The Empty Child', 'The Girl in the Fireplace', 'Silence in the Library', and most importantly, 'Blink'...

I'm a huge Doctor who fan. Started watching as a kid in the early 70's. I think Tennant is the best, by a slim margin over Baker. I'm open to the new guy, just as I was to Eckles and Tennant.
However, don't make a game. Christ, can't a great TV series just remain a TV series? It never fails that when they try to make a great game of a TV series, the series goes to crap. Maybe it's that they knew the series was going downhill anyways and were hoping to cash in before the end, I don't know.
And while I also like Torchwood, it was getting old. I think they should have gone another year's worth though. Not sure what I think about "Torchwood America" that's rumored. Torchwood without Jack and the crew just won't be Torchwood.

I've been watching Doctor Who since the 80s and love the classics as well as most of the new shows. I would be very interested in a well done game, but with that being said, I think it would be hard to do. Maybe a 3rd person adventure game with rpg and light action elements, with a big focus on openly exploring time and space in the TARDIS.
Imagine the co-op potential of one person playing as a Doctor, and your buddy playing as another incarnation of the Doctor, or one of the companions.
Or, what about a MMORPG based on the Doctor Who universe?
