That end of the year sale finally made me bite the bullet. I've always been a PC gamer, but I kinda liked owning the disc.

However, Steam's service is really sleek. The only thing I can complain about is the time it takes to download some games like Mass Effect.

Being a major contributor to Second Life does not make one a PC gamer, sorry.

Is Second Life considered a "game"?

Of course, I didn't uncheck the 'Douche PC Gamer magnet' option on my Steam account.

That's why you guys felt the need to respond.

"You're not a PC Gamer unless..." "Second Life Comment"

And you wonder why people consider PC Gamers the bane of the gaming community, and they're the most neglected (save for Wii Fanboys currently)?

What are you talking about? Steam's download servers are insanely fast at around 400-500kb/s and its better than any service that I've gotten from Shaw.

@ Breakerchase

My download speed was not even close to that, dude. I checked my settings, so I figured it was just the service.

Must be your location, sir. My downloads max out my bandwidth nearly every time I'm downloading (@~900kb/s).

Sorry but that sounds like it is your connection; not Steams. My download speed is always 800 kb/s - 1000 kb/s when I use Steam.

I downloaded cs at 1.6MB/s the other day, so I can't imagine it's steam that's slow...

I peak at 9 MB/s on steam.. But on average its about 5-7

Usually its around 30 minutes to download 8GB of game.. (take UT3 for example)

It's not steam that's slow, it's your connection or location. I get a constant 1.3mb/s from steam.

Holy shit 5.3mb/s? Do you have FiOS or something?

I hate you all with your fast internet connections, especially you ClarkyAC, what ISP and service do YOU have!?

I have all these games I bought on Steam and can't even download them! : (
I'd have to go to my university and try to download them there. : )

If you launch a Valve game, join a sever, open the console, and type "status", you can check your SteamID which has your registration number.

i signed up this year. you really cant beat some of their holiday deals. if XBox live and PSN sold digital games the way Steam does, i bet they would be selling 10x as much as they are right now.

I joined this year because, TBH, it's a hell of a lot easier to run a game on a netbook from Steam than it is to sit next to an external DVD drive.

I should probably get around to finishing it. The list of games i haven't finished that i own is getting too lengthy:

Braid
Defense Grid
Torchlight
Trine
Half-Life 2
Lost Planet
Oblivion
Portal
Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
Mass Effect
GTAIV
Universe At War
Zombie Shooter 2
Dark Messiah: Might and Magic
Far Cry 2
The Witcher
Timeshift

*sigh*. Nevermind future games. My problem is playing games over and over, stuff like Left 4 Dead, CSS, Guitar Hero, Tiger Woods PGA 10, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and heaven forbid, Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook :( Those games are killing my enthusiasm for finishing the games above. Well that and the dodgy Windows 7 drivers for my on-board sound that means i can't use my headphones :( If i had my headphones back i'd be FAR more inclined to finish them.

I use Steam with 90+% of the PC games I play, it is one of the great reasons to game on a PC. Now that Windows 7 has actually allowed me to be confident that my computer will run properly for more than 24 hours, I'm doing a lot more gaming on my PC. Those Steam sales hit me at just the right time, and I doubled the amount of Steam-distributed games I have.

The only thing I'm playing right now that isn't connected to Steam is Supreme Commander and honestly, I wish it was. Then I wouldn't need to insert the disc every time.

Correction: The only PC game I'm playing that isn't on Steam, is Supreme Commander.

Plus, Steam Cloud is such an obviously great feature that just isn't implemented enough yet. I should play some Torchlight...

I'm exactly the same. I must've spent close to £70 during the sales. I didn't even want half the games I got, they just came in packs which were cheaper than the included games I wanted.
I love Steam sales. This week especially. Psychonauts for £1/$2 and now all the X-Com games for £2/$4-$5 (rough guess). £3 and I got 2 awesome games, and 4 games that are apparently less awesome as they go on.

Oh god... the X-Com games were a bitch to get anywhere with. I remember I could barely last a year or so without having the UN cut all my funding in TFTD. Not to mention the near-perfect aiming that the aliens had.

So a 225% increase in sales means that PC gaming is dead, and we should all go buy Wiis and iTampons?

All I know is that if PC gaming ever dies and even if I move to consoles before/by then, I want to be there for that historic occasion, when the best, most flexible and innovative gaming platform of all time sadly kicks the bucket.

Steams makes me buy things. It's kinda annoying at times.

Like the other day, Psychonauts for $2. I already own that game on the PS2, and beat it 100%. I'm really not going to play it again but...

Two dollars for an amazing game like Psychonauts. I HAD to buy it.
