This is a really, really nice thing to do! But I already bought them... So I'll take the money and send it over to the Red Cross directly. I think they are genuinely interested in helping out.

Does it also count for the games? For example, if I buy Alien Hominid will it count towards the donation? Been meaning to get the game forever and now I can feel good about myself by doing so!

No. I asked this question and found the answer in one of their posts. Just the Addons, etc.

Well if you don't have the addons, you should get them. They're not donating proceeds from game sales, just from the addons. ;)

It's great, but how can 200% of anything end in .29?

Sucks that generosity and company size seem to be inversely related; I haven't heard any of the big boys such as Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo doing anything this crazy.

Microsoft didn't turn it into a marketing stunt is all, they just donated... to the tune of $1.25M. Likewise Sony has donated $250,000 and has pledged to match up to $100,000 in employee donations. Nintendo I am not sure, but I'd be surprised if they aren't doing something too... the bottom line is just because they're not using human tragedy as a marketing event like Behemoth is doesn't mean they aren't doing things. You should try to be better informed before sounding off on things. ;)

@AoE:
Let me rephrase myself: company size and generosity are inversely related; for Behemoth to donate 200% of proceeds is pretty crazy and no doubt a marketing stunt, especially for a small company, but 1.25M for Microsoft is a drop in the bucket.

and yet they still donated $1,218,828.71. Also MS donated $1.25 million more dollars than they had to. I know it's cool to hate on big corporations and all, but they arent the evil monsters you seem to want them to be. $1.25 is what the corporation donated, how about we add up the total of all the employees, employees that wouldn't have a dime to donate with out EVIL BIG CORP to pay them.

Also Behemoth is a small privately owned company that can make this kind of decision, and they don't have to worry about the board, the stock holders, blah blah blah blah.

Also keep in mind that MS might be extending other non-monetary services such as computers or stuff like that.

But keep in mind that these guys are companies and it will be a strain on some of them if they're expected to donate millions every time there is disaster.

I purchased Alien Hominoid HD

I know up on XBox Live they have a banner in the Spotlight Section to Text a message for a $10 donation.

I believe it would be nice if Microsoft gave Behemoth a banner in the Spotlight and Game Marketplace section to help promote this. I bet that would spur a bunch of other developers to do the same.

Seems simple enough to do.

You need to purchase the addons in order to donate; The games are excluded.

Good thing I haven't bought these already. I really only want Caste Crashers though.

I guess I could risk a purchase to help a good cause though.

Also, props to those that visit Joystiq. Props for not shoving a bunch of guilt down anyone's throat for donating. I've seen too much of it lately.

I meant "shove guilt down anyone's throat for NOT donating."

That makes it sound like I'm saying donating is a bad thing... =/

My bad.

im not to fond of sceems like this. Sure they donate, and its generous, but its also marketing at the same time. A truley selfless act is donating money and not telling anybody about it. What behmoth is doing is equivalent to me donating $500 and braging to all my friends saying how I donated

I would NOT give any money to the Red Cross. After stealing over 60% of the money during Katrina, what makes you think the same thing isn't happening in Haiti?

Behemoth should have done their research. Donate to the SALVATION ARMY instead. At least they admit over 90% gets to where it needs to go. Far better than 40%.
