Throughout the weekend, Steam is offering two special packages that include all games in the Freedom Force and X-COM franchises for the insanely low price of $2 for each bundle. That's right, kids! For a two-spot you could pick up a bundle with Freedom Force and Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich or an X-COM collection which includes Apocalypse, Enforcer, Interceptor, Terror from the Deep, and UFO Defense. That's a lot of game for some pocket change, so get on it.

Well from what I remember of TFTD, you'd have to be insane to own it. That game was really friggin' hard to beat! I mean you'd have to be extremely lucky just to go by a month or two without them cutting all your funds!
Still an amazingly fun game though, even if I never did get anywhere far with it.

Between Steam and GoG it is amazing how you can make such a killing on great classic games. I mean usually you can cd people on amazon or ebay selling their cd copy's for ridiculous prices. With them sold on Steam and GoG you can get them at great prices.
As soon as one of them puts up Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, and Planescape: Torment I'll make a shrine for them.

I hope that happens one day, but so far, there's no D&D games on Steam at all. It's a shame because Temple of Elemental Evil needs to get on there.

The price is right, and I'm in for both. I hope Irrational Games is using these sales to gauge interest in new entries for both series (in which case we should all lay out the measly $4).

I hope so. I'd love to see a new Freedom Force. As a comic geek I just loved the style of the game set in the Silver Age of comics it was really fun.

I've heard of F.F. and X-COM, but I never cared about them.
I just bought both bundles.
Steam is, at this point, literally stealing my money.

Already bought X-Com for $5 a long time ago, and the only other game I want from the pack is Terror From the Deep. :\
I dunnooo.
Tropico 3 for $14 sounds like the best deal, imo. But that's probably because I bought both Freedom Force games when they came out.

Having played both games (Incubation and XCOM: UFO Defense (was called UFO: Enemy Unknown when I had it on the Amiga)) and enjoyed them both I would say it is highly likely. Where Incubation sends a squad into a designed map with a specific mission goal, XCOM has a global strategic map where you buy equipment and shoot down UFOs before going into tactical missions on a randomly generated map where the mission is to kill all of the aliens (or capture one/some equipment and run if you find yourself outmatched). I personally think XCOM is even better than Incubation (more replayability due to random maps), but may not have aged well (the PC version I picked up years ago was DOS, and whilst still great, suffered graphically) and will take some investment to learn properly (made before in game tutorials, better hit the very thick manual :) ).

Steam is making my sub-par laptop a much more interesting machine, and for cheap too!
They had Psychonauts for the same price last week. Picked that up.
I've never tried these games and I've heard only little about them, but I'm interested. For $4, I don't think I can go wrong. A crappy meal at McDonalds is more expensive than this.

I highly recommend the X-COM package; UFO Defense and Terror from the Deep have excellent turn based strategy mechanics in the battlescape (battlescape ~= micro game) and superb base, tech, and economics management in the geoscape (geoscape ~= macro game). It's been ten years since I first played them, and I still haven't found a game that excels as well at all these things.

I know what you mean. I turned it on, then was immediately overwhelmed with option after option for stuff I know nothing about.
I miss tutorials

in terror from the deep i managed to intercept an alien sub, walk my guys around some, 2 got killed with a grenade (?) and then when aliens shot at others they managed to kill 2 or 3 with return fire.
Then the rest exploded for some reason.

Steam, what a bunch of thieves, honestly.
They think they are so smart, releasing these titles at steeply discounted prices like $2 while all of these other blockbuster titles are being released (Ex. Mass Effect 2), FULL KNOWING that I have little to no time to even finish the blockbusters.
So truth of the matter is that I purchase these $2 excellent classics, and my collection of them grows before I even get to finish the games that I have! Damn you steam and your plan to take over the gaming world, one deal at a time....
