As confirmed by parent company Koch Media to Develop, Cursed Mountain developer Deep Silver Vienna has apparently been closed. Citing "the overall economic situation" and noting "this decision is not easy for us," the 20-person staff was recently cut and told they would receive pay through the end of March. Develop posits that the studio's other game -- Ride to Hell -- will likely remain unaffected by the shutdown, as UK dev house Eutechnyx is handling development and Koch Media's Munich offices will oversee the game's management.
Deep Silver Vienna was formed in the wake of Rockstar Vienna's closing back in 2006, and originally called itself Games That Matter. Ex-Rockstar Vienna heads Hannes Seifert and Niki Laber launched the studio, and it is said that Siefert has moved on to a position at Square Enix Europe as a creative director. As with every case like this, we'd like to wish those affected the best of luck.

Sad news. Cursed Mountain is a pretty sweet game. I was hoping that they'd make more.

Yeah. Cursed Mountain wasn't quite a top-class game, but it was certainly a good one and well worth playing. The script and voices were surprisingly good and some aspects of the game were really quite original, too.
I expect not many people bought it (not only did it suffer the whole 'being a mature game on Wii' thing, I didn't see very much in the way of promotion). If that's the case, I expect that's a key reason why the studio's now being closed. Definitely a shame. :(

this is what happens you when you make hardcore games for the Wii.
Next time focus on a sports or party or dancing game, Deep Silver.

What has sold good on the Wii that hasn't been 1st party?
Seriously, it's not just "hardcore" games failing on the Wii.. it's just about everything. Never seen such a huge install base on a system where nobody can figure out how to make money off that huge base that isn't 1st party.
The top 10 of Wii is all 1st party. The next however many is $20 shovelware.
Sad.

You are incorrect, 14 of the 29 million sellers in the US are non-Nintendo, and that number includes two Mario & Sonic games by Sega that I'd probably lump in with 1st party because of the Mario name. That'd make 12 of the top 29. The first 3rd party game comes in at number 11, GH III. The 360 has half the install base and almost double the number of million sellers. Although, the PS3 has the smallest install base, it has the most trouble selling software altogether... 17 million sellers. No wonder I have trouble finding certain games used, nobody bought them to begin with.

Awww, now I feel bad. I wasn't too sure about the game since I didn't hear much reviews about it (I'm too used to reviews being shoved in my face), and I'm not 100% into the horror genre...
Darnit, maybe I shoulda' bought it when the price first went down.

This is one of those games that you should look past the reviews and buy. It is the sort of ambitious game made for adults that exists as wishful thinking in most discussions about exclusive Wii games. It is not a fun game in the sense that you enjoy fighting ghosts (it is more like dread, as it should be in a horror title) but it sucks you into the narrative with its dense atmosphere and mysterious characters. Deep Silver Vienna may be gone but whatever the creators of Cursed Mountain do next will be worth a close look.
