As described by executive producer Martin Wahlund in the video after the break, the game features a a variety of different competitive multiplayer modes (variations on the traditional "team deathmatch" and "capture the flag," among others) to be played by the game's four classes. Set for release in "Q2 2010," we have to imagine we'll be getting some face time with the game (and news on which consoles it's coming to) in the not too distant future.

Hang on a sec, are you trying to tell us that you weren't at the Paradox Interactive Convention in Stockholm, Sweden last week when the publisher showed off its upcoming game, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West? Lucky for you then that Paradox Interactive recently released a mélange of screenshots and a developer interview to help assuage your fear of totally missing out. Developed by Swedish company Fatshark, Lead and Gold is a third-person multiplayer-focused shooter set in the Old West.

It's funny you say that. Because that was the immediate thing that popped in my head, along with voices saying "MEDIC! MEDIC!" and "Alert, the enemy has captured our intelligence!".

BF 1943 was a rip-off of a lot of games. Just plain unoriginal.

Can we not do this? Most titles in the FPS genre are extremely similar in every way, calling any FPS a rip off of something is silly at this point. As far as I'm concerned any TDM game at its core is ripping off Quake III, but who gives a shit? All the matters in the end is if it's fun, not if it's groundbreaking and original.

The Battlefield analogy would actually work were those games, you know, not part of the same franchise.

Originality is fun for me. I like seeing new things. FPSs like BioShock are what really interest me. Why? Because it has something I value: Substance.

And wait, why does the fact that it's a downloadable title at all detract from its uncanny resemblance to TF2? I'm not seeing any logic here.

Bioshock from a gameplay perspective wasn't very original. Most of the gameplay elements were straight from System Shock 2, and while the city under the sea is certainly something you don't see every day, you don't see western team based shooters very often either. There's only one other Western themed shooter I can think of this generation and it looked nothing like this.

I'm usually not one to call games rip-offs of another, but this is just pathetic. Not only is it a class-based shooter, but the color styles and fonts are very similar to those used in TF2. Your 1943 argument doesn't work as that was developed by the same people who developed 1942, and this game is definitely NOT made by Valve.

So basically a western themed skin for TF2? I see nothing wrong with that.

It IS a downloadable game. I don't care ifnit's just TF2 in the west. Looks cool to me- I'll pay $10-15 for it.

IDC if it's a blatant ripoff of TF2. I paid 20$ for it. I'll pay another 20$ to get a similar experience.

Looks decent. Never heard of it before. If there ends up being a demo I'll check it out.

Well sure, the PS2 can handle those graphics, but it's not really cut out for a strong online gameplay component...

It's cool and has an interesting design direction, but it's not anything new: TF2 has been done, multi-player objectives have been done, and Wild West has been done. There isn't anything that would compel me to buy and play this.
Also, I had a brainfart and the word 'compel' looks bizarre to me.

It's a weird looking word. Almost as if it's not complete.

Serious question: When was the last time all of those things have been done together in a single package? I ask because, as you may or may not be aware, there really is nothing new under the sun. Things get interesting when it comes to combination of elements, presentation, and polish.
Personally I'm quite interested in this. But then I like old-west shooters, and if there's been a team-based one, I somehow missed it. Anyhow, I wouldn't worry too much if I were you about not being the target market for this, I don't think the old west shooter market is very big by and large.

These screenshots are so clean, they bug the shit out of me. Nothing in the old west was clean. Even fresh lumber was gritty, rough and weathered. These look like renderings from Home Design Builder Pro. With armed construction workers running through them.

doesn't look very next-gen.. they didn't mention the platform.. is this gonna be a PSN/XBL title?? Doesn't seem like something that could do well on-disc..
