According to its Facebook page, Metro 2033, the upcoming post-apocalyptic FPS from 4a Games, will feature a full (optional) Russian voiceover track with equally optional English subtitles. Seeing as how Metro 2033 is set in Russia, this option could really add to the game's atmosphere, granted you don't mind reading subtitles -- or hey, maybe you even speak Russian. It's a shame other games developed by foreign studios and set in foreign countries so often neglect authentic language options when localized for North America. Yes, Yakuza, we're looking at you.
Since Metro 2033 will offer a Russian language option, we think it only makes sense that this post does, too:

Since you are learning Russian I thought I would let you know a couple things about your post.
On topic I am thrilled that you will be able to play this game in Russian. I always like playing as the Spetnaz in MW2 because of the few Russian phrases they utter.

Definitely will be doing this. I love having the original language in games/anime.

Ok, I'm not familiar with all those words, but you seem to be saying you also are learning Russian and that it is a difficult language. I agree, it's a challenge, but it is a bit easier to learn to read in Russian, for me at least. I love the alphabet. Very simple, except I sometimes confuse the English looking characters. :P
I've just started out with formal classes, but I try to learn much outside of class as well!

I almost always put subtitles even if there are voiceovers (too often some background noise or music has made the voiceover incomprehensible). I would certainly try having the Russian language on with English subs just for the atmosphere.
Not that it has much relationship here, but I've been reading Last Watch, the one of the sequels to Night Watch. Still not as good as Night Watch, but fun, pulpy stuff to read.

I like when this option is included, it really makes me feel more immersed in the game and makes the context seem more believable for me.

Is it a bad thing that my first thought was "Oh that looks like Dwarven writing!"?

Lol, Cyrillic does look like some sort of rune writing any fantasy Dwarf would do...

Good. Apparently, I'm one of the 1% of Americans who can actually read and turn on subtitles for foreign movies/games.

I adore foreign films including Pan's Labyrinth, 2046, Chungking Express, The Delicatessen, and City of Lost Children.

I thought it was hilarious in Metal Gear Solid 2 set in NYC, the Russian soldiers spoke English with a Russian accent and then with Metal Gear Solid 3, the Russian soldiers in Russia spoke with American accents.

This game looks pretty good. Now just add a ton of depth, 5 or 6 times the map size and another 100 hours of game play and you've got a dang good game...
... that came out over a year ago. Sorry, but the resemblance to Fallout is enough to make me pass.
Sure there are a ton of Fallout look alikes, but this is the least of the copy cats. Imay rent it for a quick play through at some point.

Okay, should explain now a bit. I'm not Russian, but I learned Russian after living in Ukraine for two years. For all the students of Russian out there, keep at it - it's totally worth it.
On second thought, maybe I shouldn't have said that....

Jesus...Dear Joystiq...In the future, when you need something translated English=>Russian or Russian=>English please do not hesitate to ask me. It pains me greatly to read the awful machine translation of a text. Moreover, it doesn't makes sense (the Russian text) in some parts. I lived in Russia for 12 years before moving to UK to continue my education and have an A at English Literature A-level.
P.S. here is the properly translated text:
Remember, the Devil is in the details :D

HELLO FRIEND WHAT ARE YOU HERE WHAT HAVE YOU COME
I thought it was kinda goofy that Assassin's Creed 2 had subtitle options and supported multiple languages like Italian, but you couldn't set the language to Italian and have English subtitles.
Also, the ratio of Modern Warfare 2 references to STALKER references is making me frown. We need to stand up and overcome.
Or just get out of here. Stalker.

Thanks for the flattery; I haven't spoken Russian very consistently ever since I left and so I'm fairly rusty and have forgotten a bunch of it.
BTW, Jake, I lived in I was there as an LDS missionary and returned last August. How did you end up there? I've always heard Полтава is really cool but Донецк is not so much (too many factories they always said [well, that was in Sevtown, the folks in Zap said Donetsk was a lovely place and it's easy to see why they'd think that, I mean, they live in Zap]).

Good call.
Only last night I watched 3 vids of this game and thought it looked good. I share a house with a Latvian couple who speak Russian so I will get them to translate for me.
I do like proper authentic voice work. When I play Silent Hunter I always have it set to German voice with English subs. It does help with immersion. Plus I can now shout "Engines full ahead" and "ship spotted, bearing 287 degrees, range 8000 metres" like a real German so it's educational too.
