It's like Phantasy Star Online but with a much more elaborate system for obtaining items, from my understanding. It's closer to PSO in how it plays, in that you're very limited into how many players you can work with simultaneously on a mission, and it very much has that ARPG playing style, but getting stronger is more about killing progressively stronger monsters, and then harvesting them to build new weapons, and is quite involved in that point

If you like ARPGs, but also really like "forge-your-own-weapons" kinda games, this is for you.

Well that makes it seem pretty okay, though with the Wii's shitty, shitty online system it will of course have a bit of a damper. Wii Speak will be nice, but it's still far inferior to a good old fashioned headset and real party chat. I DO want one of the new classic controllers, as well.

Anyone else want to weigh in? : )

I played a Monster Hunter game on PS2. Didn't get very far in, but I was impressed by the size of the world map and monster AI.

I actually felt like I was exploring a new world with many new species of creatures.

Swinging the sword was mapped to the right analog stick, which was cool because you get vertical and horizontal attacks. It just sucked for the camera.

Mr Khan: "It's like Phantasy Star Online..."

I didn't need to read any more to become very very interested.

That's the other brilliant part of it: it's not running on Nintendo WiFi Connection at all, Capcom's shouldering all of that, so the online would be just as good as, say, PS2 online.

The difference between PSO and Monster Hunter is that Monster Hunter requires a lot more skill and has more depth to it.

In PSO, you can run around and kind of mindlessly kill anyone.

In Monster Hunter, you actually have to block, roll, and use items when you fight stuff, as well as the different types of attacks. Combat has a distinct flow to it that makes the game really, really fun.

Not to mention the seemingly endless crafting system and being able to take down monsters that often times don't even fit on the entire screen. The first time you really fight something big, you're going to shit your pants.

Also, when you kill things, they like flop on the ground, it's kind of weird, but cool at the same time.

Who knows? But at least I finally will have a reason to use WiiSpeak other than Animal Crossing. :)

I think it would be advantagious for Nintendo to just include the microphone as part of the concole itself. Then, knowing that everyone already had one, developers would actually use it more.

I look for Wii 2 to be compatible with alot of the stuff that will carry over from Wii. Wii Speak being one of them.

Also, I look for Wiimotes/Wii motion plus add ons to be compatible even though Wii 2 remotes will have it built in to theirs

He isn't talking about it being compatible - he is saying it should be included, like headsets are with the 360 for example. There isn't much of a reason to go buy Wii Speak for a few games only right? So why bother making your game work with it when most don't have the peripheral anyway?

If everyone has the devices because it came with the console - then more devs would use them.

For those keeping score:

Nintendo: 1 - 3rd Parties: more than 1

(Wikipedia says its 7 including upcoming games, but the important part is MORE THAN 1)

There is the WiiSpeak channel too, if you can count it.

So used to using Skype or setting up an Xbox LIVE Party when playing Wii games, that I almost prefer it. Not like any of the existing WiiSpeak games are the most desirable applications for it anyways, hopefully MH Tri will change that.

Kinda sad when Wii gamers get so excited about a game having voice-chat support.
