Sony's PlayStation Network-exclusive reality series "The Tester" will begin February 18th. The competition will have the above real gamers vying for a chance to win a glamorous testing job at PlayStation. Until April 8th, the PlayStation Store (for PSP and PS3) will update every Thursday with new -- and free -- episodes of the series.
Should "The Tester" successfully sidestep traditional employee recruitment and take off, don't be surprised if Sony announces "Who Wants to be Our Janitor?" next season.

What will be great is if all the gamers are conflicting types. Put 3 console fanboys, 1 thats all PC an MMORPG person here and throw in a few other gaming stereotypes and this maybe a show worth watching...
Seeing a PS3 and a Xbox360 fanboy getting in a fist fight maybe worth the risk of losing 20 minutes of my life...

@Platinum
It'd be easy to get them under control. Promise the Wiifanboy a good Nintendo game this year, tell the Sony fanboy he'll get early access to GT5, tell the 360 fanboy he's got a lifetime warranty on his hardware, and just threaten to take away the PC fanboy's dedicated servers...

But will it be disasterous enough to be as entertaining as Jersey Shore, that's the question.

My guess is these gamers are nerds....the Jersey Shore people are all dumb bastards....and probably can't tell me what a TI-86 is....

... dream job ... testing games?
Being a game tester is a dream job when you're like, 11, and then you realize that working in a factory mopping toilets would probably be more rewarding.

Don't underestimate the redemptive value of mopping toilets.

The idea of testing is that you move up as soon as possible.
Happens all the time. Harold Ryan, Bungie's current president? Started in test.

Brad, I had some friends that tested and they never acted like it was glamorous. One worked for vivendi in southern California and thought it would be a dream job...then he realized the pay sucked and in reality, playing games doesn't make you the person they promote up...game design is a tad more complex than being able to play the games. You have to have some abilities beyond that.
"Happens all the time" is hardly accurate. The majority of game testers go nowhere with it. Reality is your friend!

They all look like actors with fake gamer names that some script writer made up. if it were real, they'd all be 13 with names like lolc0ck5 and sm0k3ab0lle6669 and the one PC gamer that thinks he's better than everyone else (and rightfully so).

Why wouldn't they do a reality show competing for a video game related job that's actually interesting? Like a designer. The competitions would be better, potentially more creative and the prize would actually be worth winning. I can't believe anyone would actually want to compete for the video game career equivalent of working in a call center.

I'm not sure why everyone continues to report on this as if it's real. It's viral marketing. These are not real "gamers," and there is no job. This, being on the show, is the job.
