Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia says that Sony is in for a good 2010 -- he expects the PlayStation 3 to experience its largest year-over-year growth from last month's sales among all consoles, and for Sony to beat its own record from the month before for the console's best sales ever. The PS3 appears to be on a roll, and January sales are expected to continue the trend.
Bhatia also says that the Wii's sales are being hurt by "meaningful shortages," and points out that just 28% of the stores NPD checked in January had Nintendo's console in stock. Bhatia also suggests that Xbox 360 sales would be up slightly, due to a big GameStop promotion, and that software sales would be down in general. Not unexpected, given that January almost never matches up to the frenzy of the holiday season, but 2010 has already started off with a bang in terms of quality releases. NPD's official info, released soon, will let us know if there were sales to match.

Hey, look at that! An analyst AGAIN predicts "The Year of the PS3." Wasn't 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 also the Year of the PS3?

I don't recall anyone saying 2006 or 2007 was the year of the PS3. And to be fair, the PS3 has been doing better each year than the previous. I wouldn't call it "the year of the PS3" (Neither did he) but it's definitely gonna do good, and so is the Wii and 360

Dont get me wrong the ps3 is a great console and all but it seriously lacks in the software department.I dont mean games it has some good titles but i mean its menu system and its os features are still lacking. The controller is awfull as well and thats the reason i never play mine anymore.I bought a slim tried kz2 which was a great game but the controller ruined the experience for me.So then i said you know what i will use it for blurays.Well that wore off quick its great the first few times i watched a movie it was like wow but my mind kept trailing back to kingkong on hddvd and that was the only move that ever made you feel like you were there.I ended up selling my ps3 bought a hddvd player for 40 bucks and abot 25 movies brand new for 1 dollar a piece.I figure hell any new movies i will just buy in hd off zune and all the olders for a dollar hddvd.
All i can remember about ps3 was having hardly any friends that owned them. The ones that did i found impossible to connect with them to play games. The controller felt like a fisher price toy.I just didnt see the point in even letting the thing take up space on my entertainment center. So i put my sega saturn back in its place.

If you don't like the PS3 get a 360 dude. They're on sale this week for $180. And you can get a new 20gb HDD for like $30 off Amazon. So you have a full high-def gaming rig for $210. Xbox LIVE is about $40 per year. That averages to about $3.33 per month - well worth the price for a great online service. PS3 fanboys always bitch about the cost of LIVE, but seriously I spend more money on a bag of potato chips than I do for a whole month of Xbox LIVE.

The PS3 controller is ASS. It feels cheap, it doesn't have triggers (convex bumpers ARE NOT a substitute for a proper trigger), and 6-axis is just a retarted gimmick so Sony can put another bullet point on the box. My only gripe with the 360 controller is the D-pad, but otherwise it has a much better feel and weight, its designed to fit your hands, it has triggers that are... wow! CONCAVE..., it has rumble, and you don't have to stop everything and recharge your controller when it dies.
I remember telling my PS3-owning friend of mine about how my 360 controller has rumble and his controller doesn't (this was before 6-axis), and he scoffed at how stupid rumble was in a controller. Guess he didn't realize that Microsoft made rumble the STANDARD in gaming because Sony wasted no time in copying Microsoft. But thats your typical hypocritical PS3 fanboy.

In regards to the GOW vs GOWII sales, I'd be interested in seeing how many of the GOW sales come after the release of II. I'd bet it is a pretty significant number.

Well rumble has been around awhile butt sony couldnt figure a way to fit ruble into a ps3 controller at the time and still allow proper 6 axis controller not that it was proper to begin with it.Six axis was a throw own due to the fear of the wii and the shitty gpu was also due to the fact that they realized it would take awhile before developers would get the hang of the cell. Not to mention that nobody wanted to redevelop a entire game due to its lack of gpu.So you bassicaly got a featureless machine with a shit load of processing power that was a pain in the ass to make games for.
Its like buying a quad core with a 2001 gfx card.
