Engadget turned off their commenting system. I think that Joystiq should turn it off for a week as well.

Why?

Then we'd all have to go post on TUAW telling the Apple fans it's all their fault.

That will only happen when the staff can't handle the fact people might have different opinions than their own, and start posting non-stop about a product that is underwhelming and overexposed.

I'm surprised they had not closed down the comments after Left 4 Dead 2.

Also, these Bradwart impostor accounts need to stop.

I enjoy commenting and reading comments, but some of them really get out of hand. This isn't subjective, it's objective.

I'M NOT AN IMPOSTOR!

And Ironic is right. Engadget never should have done that. First, it's probably killing their site and ad traffic. Second, when the comments get turned back on...hoo boy.

@ Bradwart,

According to their message their going through and dropping the ban hammer on the trolls.

There are a lot of great commenters on Joystiq and they share a lot of good information.

I hope they fix the comment system on Joystiq. There should be a link to click on to see the replies to each comment. That way people are less encouraged to reply to the first comment just to be at the top.

Maybe, but nearly everyone hates the Engadget layout these days.

I'd take a static login, though.

I rarely see people post on the first comment just to be on top. I mean I've seen it, but compared to the number of times I haven't seen it.

It's less than a 1% occurrence I'd say.

Now if they are going to fix anything, it should be fixing a few of the style issues their most recent changes have brought, adding a universal login for the main site and all 3 "spokes", and finally if they could somehow make reply fails less annoying. Perhaps make the "Replying to Caveman" part bigger or more colorful, adding a note that IE6 may cause headaches when replying.

About the "style issues": A lot of 16:9 or 4:3 images are getting stretched or smashed in the new gallery layout. For the most part clicking on "High-res" will fix this, but in some cases even those lose their proper aspect ratio. And the profile pages are also messed up since they feature a mix of the old style and the new style (for example the marquee).

I really wish I could change my avatar. Every time I upload a new one it never works.

It seems that some people can change their avatar and others cannot.

You brought up a lot of great points sonicspike41.

I find that if you keep uploading the avatar you want every few minutes, it eventually works. I've never had to reupload more than 4 times.

For best results, use Firefox.

Well ever since I got myself a widescreen TV and especially now that I have a nice widescreen laptop, aspect ratios have really been pissing me off, haha.

But yeah, Brad your new pic shows up half the time, the rest it just shows a white box with your name in it. Another annoying issue.

He really is an amazing composer. Alias really thrived because of his music, and he only gets better with every project he works on. I hope he wins for UP! The music pulls at your heartstrings in that movie.

Up was nominated for Best Picture and Best Animated... So I guess it automatically wins Best Animated.

Also it's a better movie than Beauty and the Beast so it should win Best Picture. The Blind Side was nominated. Seriously. And goddamn Avatar, which has no redeeming qualities outside of its special effects and making a lot of money.

At least District 9, Inglourious Basterds, and A Serious Man got nominations.

I still have those tune's in my head playing the game as a kid.

Yep, I remember the music being really good- and I actually prefer it to John Williams' own soundtrack to The Lost World.

The game itself rocked too... even that annoying level where you had to avoid those brachiosaur feet as a compy.

I might have to see if it's on the PSN store- I should probably play that again...

No, you aren't. I cried... on the inside.

Almost did let it out, though. I was cold and tired, traveling all alone on a transpacific flight. The only solution for me was to release TEH FUNNYZ and watch "Land of the Lost". After that, I became too stupid to feel anything.

I didn't cry, but it was pretty sad.

They could have cut the movie off before he even ties balloons to his house, and I think it still would have had an amazing amount of emotion packed into it.

Strangely though I do cry every time I watch Cowboy Bebop. If I watch the whole series start to finish by the end of the last episode I'm wiping away the tears. Good show...

I'm in my late 20s and I'll admit I cried- which is very rare. Hell, I grinned madly when Jack died at the end of Titanic, so this was rather unexpected.

Yet somehow, this movie struck an odd chord with me. Luckily, I was home,on the couch with the fiancee watching the Blu-ray. I think that song "Married Life" hits the right combination that forces even the surliest of men to tear up- yeah, that must be it.

He truely is talented. If you've listened to enough of his music you'll hear that he has a frantic pace to a lot of songs, but they're all under control. I think of him as the master of controlled chaos. You hear it a lot in soundtracks like Star Trek, Ratatouille and Medal of Honor.

I love Giacchino's stylistic range. He did 60s-style spy music in The Incredibles, Parisian street jazz in Ratatouille, Space Opera in Star Trek, epic war themes in Medal of Honor, Cloverfield's monster movie overture, and the bizarre post-post-modern Lost themes, along with some of the most heartrendingly beautiful music ever in a movie in Up. Most composers would kill to do just one of those styles as well as he does. It's also worth noting that his score for Up was nominated for the Best Score Oscar today, and that it already won the same Golden Globe.

I thought he was pretty average until Star Trek. I wasn't a huge Trek fan but everyone knows the music to the original series. The score kept teasing the original theme with a score that kept alluding to it, up until the end credits when the old and new themes collided like red matter into a black hole.

His rendition of Andrew Courage's ST theme is awesome, yes, but for the most part, I wasn't quite taken by his score for the film (I have the soundtrack CD). I did like one of the pieces a lot, the one which really reminded me of the beginning of Jerry Goldsmith's "The Enterprise," from the 1979 motion picture (it's the piece that plays during the 5 minutes of nothin' but Enterprise). However, overall, I didn't think it quite matched my favorite ST film scores (Goldsmith's and Horner's). Then again, Goldsmith's ST:TMP soundtrack is one of the best film scores of all time, so this isn't to say Giacchino was bad.

I can't believe the only mention of "Lost" came in the form of a Jurrasic Park game. HE DID LOST! That's one of the best scores I've ever heard on a TV show in my life!
