Virtua Fighter, NiGHTS characters in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

Apparently, Sega's plan is to represent every Sega franchise ever in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing -- except, of course, for Segata Sanshiro. The publisher announced two more playable characters today (well, four, actually, in pairs): Virtua Fighter's Akira and Jacky, and Bonanza Bros.' Mobo and Robo. The Virtua guys appear to be riding in a red Ferrari, which would add the OutRun franchise to the list as well. All these reveals are in line with the character portraits found hidden on the website.

NiGHTS will appear in the game as well, though not in a capacity that will cause superfans "DiGi" and "Trippy" to lose their bets and burn their NiGHTS memorabilia collections. The androgynous dream-monster will appear as the flagman in the racing game.

So where the hell is Streets of Rage and Vectorman?

Vectorman isn't a Sega property. I'm pretty sure Interplay still owns the rights to that one.

Actually, SEGA owns the Vectorman franchise:

Don't forget all of the compilations that Vectorman has appeared in and the vaporware Vectorman PS2 title.

And yes, I am quite aware that Blue Sky Software was owned by Interplay. But SEGA has always owned the Vectorman franchise lock, stock, and barrel, unlike the ToeJam & Earl franchise. If you look at the ToeJam & Earl games, they always say "Copyright Johnson-Voorsanger Productions" or "Copyright TJandE Productions"~ variations of that sort. That's why we aren't getting this:

What ever happened to the Toejam & Earl XBLA port? Didn't Sega or someone run that poll online and Earthworm Jim one but then due to copyrights they couldn't port it so TJ&E was next in line?

Akira seems to be enjoying the ride.

Maybe it's because he's upset because he's not driving.

Well, Jacky is a race car driver, so it would only make sense that he'd be the one behind the wheel.

Besides, Akira driving a car would be equivalent to a samurai trying to fly a plane: it would only end in disaster.

You know what, I'm actually looking forward to this game. It's got a good cast of characters, and being reasonably priced at 49.99, not a bad deal IMO.

Now to decide what platform...

I think they'd have rendering problems with VC characters. Same with Madworld.

Seaman's omission was surprising, however.

None of Sega's RPG series seem to be represented at all (Phantasy Star, Shining, and Arcadia are the ones I'm thinking of, besides Valkyria).

Where's outrun? you'd think it'd be a no brainer.

Didn't you read the article? The car in the picture up top is clearly the one from Outrun.

Wrong. Red sports car NOT EQUAL Ferrari.
