Aliens vs. Predator demo confirmed for Thursday
51
As hinted at by an Xbox Live Spotlight ad which briefly appeared yesterday, a demo for Aliens vs. Predator will be released on Xbox Live, PSN and Steam tomorrow. A Sega Europe blog post which announced the demo's imminence revealed that the trial gives players access to all three of the game's species, who can battle it out Deathmatch-style on one of AvP's multiplayer maps. You can bet we'll hop on this one as soon as it's available -- who knows, maybe the fanged proboscis which will soon bore into your skull will belong to one of us!

It doesn't need hype. Anyone who played the originals will eat this up. I know I'll be buying it day one.

The only thing I hope is that it won't be everyone versus everyone. I'd hope this deathmatch mode is really either aliens versus humans, aliens versus predators and humans versus predators.
In a game like this, the multiplayer needs to be like that since... That's the focus of the damn game.
And honestly, if the multiplayer is good, I think it'll mean a good sign for the single player. If the controls are tight, the weapons/combos/abilities are varied enough, then all its a matter of is whether or not they put together a good story.
Also, it would be nice if I get a good couple jump scares out of the game.

@Phil-
I don't know what modes will be in the demo, but the retail version will have team deathmatch broken down by species. There'll also be a 'survival' 4-player co-op mode where the players are marines holding off waves of icreasingly-tougher aliens. Can't wait.

I just want a team of humans against one predator and I'll be happy.

In the first two, Predators owned everything. It wasn't even fair going against a Predator as a human.

There is, in fact, a race deathmatch, where its Aliens vs Predators vs Marines
BUT
There is another deathmatch that is 2 teams, each having a mix of races
There are 5 other modes I think, but whatever online game mode you're looking for, will probably be in it

Is it me, or does all of the coverage of this game seem to ignore that there's going to be a single-player campaign? This has me more than a little worried...

It's not ignoring it. It's just that AvP is so popular because of it's solid multiplayer. So it's obviously a main selling point to old fans of the series and a great way to lure in new players.

Why the downvote? I wasn't trying to take anything away from AVP. I just got the code today but I already have the demo so I figured someone here could use it.

Oh hell yeah! Finally ill be able to see if its good! Ive had mixed feelings. I played AvP and AvP2 for HOURS on the PC, but the fact that Rebellion are making this really put out my fire of hype. Hopefully a demo will rekindle it.

Looks like the game consoles will continue to be nothing more than a predator's playground.

As someone who's really on the fence about it, this demo will decide whether or not I pick it up. AvP2 was great, but everything I've seen from this installment looks meh. The fact that they're releasing a demo over a week before the game is released is a good sign of Rebellion's faith in it.

People like you are the ones who are screaming at 12:01 GMT why a Valve update isn't released, without taking into consideration that the company that makes the game and releases updates are in a different time zone.

It's pretty good. They only have the deathmatch option in the demo, so that was a little disappointing. I played the Alien a bunch, but without teams you don't always get that pack mentality (though some people made truces to not kill other Aliens) which I think would be one of the best parts. Also, walking on the walls can get a little trippy when jumping from one surface to the next. Still I got some awesome sneaky kills against both the Marines and the Predators.
The Marines aren't hopeless, especially if you have Aliens that just run straight at you. Aliens die pretty fast if they are hiding in the dark. Predators are intense (though I didn't get to play one) and their numbers seemed to limited in the deathmatch gametype. Of eight people only 2 were allowed to be Predators, while there were 4 Aliens.
I would have liked to play the other multiplayer game types because they sound more along the lines of what I would play in AvP. Still its pretty interesting and being in a clan of specialized Aliens would rock.

Me and my buddies need a new FPS to replace the glitchy COD:MW2. We had our hopes on Bad Company 2, but that demo proved that game will be terrible without some serious changes. My fingers are crossed that AVP is the game that fills the void that COD is leaving. Either that or Infinity Ward can get off their lazy asses and fix their glitched game (and while they're at it, why not give us a few COD4 maps for free - it probably won't require much work on their part, but would satisfy the craving for more maps. It's not like you people need more money from us!).
