The latest carrot to be dangled before the teeming mass of The Legend of Zelda fans comes from a recent interview in Famitsu magazine, via Andriasang. There, director Eiji Aonuma says he hopes that Nintendo will be able to "show something playable" at E3. What? That's, like, four years ahead of schedule! We jest, but it's not like Nintendo really needs to rush anything. It's The Legend of Zelda. You want it, even if it's supposed to be different this time around.
Aonuma wouldn't provide much in terms of how far along the game has come, other than talking up the MotionPlus support and stating the team has "progressed in development since last year" and that the "core areas have come into clear view." We take that to mean the team has finished rendering Hyrule Field.

Do you mean in a narrative sense? Or that you want to see the time travel and mask mechanics again? Or the greater sense of character interaction that game had?
Majoras Mask is easily the best Zelda game but I don't think it needs to be rehashed. As far as I'm concerned the best direction this new game could take would be a back to basics approach. By that I mean no 'gimmicks' - masks, wolves, boats, twilight, dark world etc. - and a heavy focus on combat. Some huge ass bosses wold be nice as well.

You know what would kick ass? A LoZ game that really ties the timeline of every other game together and explains what happened in between. I'm imagining something like Metroid Prime where a lot of the background is told in bits and pieces. That might not be possible but it would be cool. It would be such an epic story.
Either way, I can't wait to play this game. Been thinking about playing OoT for the 32nd time...

Everybody wants one of those but it'll never happen. Miyamoto doesn't even know how the Zelda timeline goes.
As far as I'm concerned they don't need a timeline.
Remember, its called "Legend" of Zelda. Not "History" of Zelda.

It is not likely, but all those games could be terrible. Don't count your cuccos until they have hatched man.

it would be SO awesome if Nintendo could get all those out. i honestly haven't dusted off my Wii in a while and Galaxy 2, Metroid, and Legend of Zelda would most definitely get me back on the Nintendo bus. and the new main Pokemon games isn't going to hurt the cause either (haven't touched my DS in a while either).

The best was in the Lost Woods. When I was a kid I wanted to build my house there.

Sounds like things are moving quickly. I was only expecting a trailer at E3. It'd be awesome if they were able to release some kind of teaser trailer in the months leading up to E3 but I doubt that'll happen.

So... this has already been delayed (internally, from early 2010 to late 2010), meaning that it's likely we'll see it in 2010... bring it on, Nintendo!

I don't think it'll be delayed after they start showing it off. If I remember right, they'd really finished Twilight Princess a year before it came out, they just delayed it to add waggle. That means they would've been working on it for 5 years by the end of this year.

I'm seeing the phrase "We hope to..." thrown around a lot where Zelda is concerned. Where are the statements of fact regarding anything besides a carpel-tunnel inducing gimmick?
Until the Big N's mouthpieces remove the word "hope" from their vocabulary, what they have to say isn't even worth the time it takes to blog about it.
Yes mad.

What they should do is stop making empty promises. They don't have to say anything at all.

Well, Nintendo's 2008 and 2009 E3's were absolute shit. So, unless Nintendo is attempting a shit hat-trick, they damn well better show some quality titles this year, and that includes the new Zelda for Wii. I'm also hoping to see Metroid M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and a large number of unannounced Wii titles such as a third Pikmin. I also want Reggie to bring the Vitality Sensor on stage, throw it onto the stage and drop the Reggie-Elbow on it while yelling, "Fu.ck casual, this year Nintendo goes HARDCORE!" :)

Give me some examples of what made it good?
Wii Motion Plus? - no
Vitality Sensor? - no
New Super Mario Bros Wii? - Maybe a little
Wii Fit's success? - no
handful of DS titles like new Mario RPG? - maybe a little
Dead Space Extraction and Resident Evil Darkside Chron? - two mature on rails shooters that didn't end up selling well
Mario Galaxy 2 - a game that is STILL NOT OUT
Metroid M - a game that is STILL NOT OUT
----
That's pretty much E3 2009 from Nintendo... you tell me how it couldn't be considered shit?

I don't understand how you can think an E3 presentation without any solid substance is a good showing. I'm not hating on Nintendo for showing off the new Metroid or Mario, that's fine, gives us a taste of what's far down the road.
However we should have also seen some solid titles that were to be released in the upcoming year. Nintendo only showed 2 first party titles that would release in the next year, Super Mario Bros Wii and Wii Sports Resort, and unfortunately, that's pretty much all we got for the year, which is less to do with their E3 presentation and more to do with their overall strategy for 2009, which was continue to ride on their established success and do nothing to generate any new buzz.
The rest of their showing from 2009 was more accessories, DS stuff and a couple 3rd party titles.
In my opinon, a successful E3 would have shown have far more games that would be coming in the next year... that didn't happen, in part because they didn't have any games in the 2009 pipeline.
If you were satisfied with E3 2009, then you are too easily satisfied, and that's ashame, you should demand more from these companies!
