Hoping to pile some extra coal into the hype train's engine, 2K took up the whole first commercial block of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with a 3-minute-15-second launch trailer. It's a cool clip, but we get the uneasy feeling that the heavy reliance on non-gameplay, first-person action is just a touch misleading. That said, it's just a couple of inches above this sentence, so you can judge for yourself.

Just throwing this out there.
Is dante's Inferno Street Dated for the 9th or is that a ship date?
Since if it's street dated you could probably pick up both titles at a midnight.

Dante is SD for 2/9 which means most retailers will probably have permission to sell that as well.

Didn't the first BioShock trailer rely on non-gameplay footage? Wasn't that the trailer with the Big Daddy putting the drill through the guys chest? That sold me on the first game...this trailer is making an excellent case for the second game for me.

Wow, that was indeed very epic.
Good call.

It is a good trailer but describing it as epic is using that word in a disgustingly stupid manner. Hey though, most people are are disgustingly stupid. The world keeps turning.

Now that the plebeians have wrestled the meaning of the word away I wonder what word we will have to use now in place of 'epic' to describe something that is actually epic.
'Awesomely Epic'. 'Epically Epic'. 'DoubleplusEpic'
Orwell LOLs epically in his grave.

Just thank God that this game is in first person. Any other way, and it would be Bombershock.

I'll tell you what bothers me about this game.
In Bioshock 1, in the very beginning of the game, you were told that the Big Daddies RAN Rapture. You were to avoid them AT ALL COSTS. Splicers of all kinds feared them. When Jack saw a Big Daddy, he knew he was in some deep shit.
Now, when they first announced Bioshock 2 and they told everyone that you were gonna be a Big Daddy, everyone instantly thought that the player would now be the REAL force to be reckoned with down there -- everything in Rapture would fear YOU. But that's not that case anymore. The Splicers have gotten stronger, more fearless, and smarter and now there's the Big Sisters -- who have seemingly replaced the role that the Big Daddy had in the first game.
You're not the Big Dog as was first hoped. You're just Jack again, with a drill on your arm.

Would you really want to be all powerful in Rapture? All the enemies to run away from you? That doesn't sound nearly as fun.

No certainly not. And I wouldn't expect that. But try to pick up what I'm putting down here and REALLY think about it.
I mean, obviously I haven't played the game, but what has changed? Yes, you're a Big Daddy, yes, you have drill for an arm. But what else? You're back in Rapture, there's still Splicers, there's still hacking, there's still plasmids (albeit a few new ones), you're still deciding what to do with the Little Sisters.....and there's multiplayer.
Where is the BIG incentive for me to delve BACK into Rapture? I LOVED the first game! But I need someone to give me a real reason to get this game. Because from.what.i.can.see., it's all the same game.

If splicers need Adam to survive, and the Big Daddies are effectively guarding the Adam supply, and the Big Daddies are all-powerful, then the Splicers have two choices: evolve or die. I know where you're coming from, but from a story and gameplay perspective, I'm satisfied.

I'm not sure what kind of answer you're looking for here. Obviously you should never play a sequel ever. Just stick to new IPs if that's the mindset you take into these things.

Well, its a sequel to a successful game, so its naturally not going to stray to far from the formula of the first. I'm sure there are some gameplay tweaks and of course a different story, but no one should be expecting a radically new experience out of this. I loved the first and I'm down for another helping

More Splicers...evolved 10 years mind you.
More Rapture...devolved 10 years, how has the city changed? I can't wait to find out.
New enemies...some new Splicers plus Big Sisters. What challenges will they bring?
New Plasmids, albeit a few.
New weapons, albeit a few.
THE STORY! What's going to happen? What about Jack? In the first game you transformed yourself into a Big Daddy, are you going to somehow transform yourself back into a human? Who knows, but I can't wait to see.
All of this plus the new multiplayer...I don't know what else you could want as a sequel to one of the best games ever.

You'll still definitely be more powerful than Jack. The camera will shake more and rumble will be slightly stronger.

I dunno man, more Rapture with a new story and a new angle on it was enough to bring me back. We don't know who this character we play really is, but he's obviously been around Rapture for a long time and we are in for a great storytelling journey and if it's half as good as the first, it will be an awesome experience. I didn't think that the actual gameplay needed an overhaul, so the new story is enough to grab me (and I'm sure there'll be some exciting gameplay tweaks added in as well along the way)

I'm not worried at all really. Even if it's just Bioshock "bonus levels" I'll be happy. ...Still, preorder and everything, I don't see myself pushing all the way to gamestop at midnight to pick this up. I love Bioshock, but not enough to stand around in the cold. It can wait till morning.

you seem to forget that big daddies WERE messed with in the first game. as feared as they were, there were numerous scripted sequences with splicers taking them on. the rewards were apparently great enough that you yourself went after them as well.

Ok, clearly I've missed a few points when considering this game. But that was all I was asking for and that's what these discussions are for. I asked for some counter-arguments are I got them and my perception of the game has changed for the better. I'm glad some of you had the respect to reply with a mature response, unlike my friend Vcize up there who basically just said I should stop playing video games because I had some issues with Bioshock 2.......

That was fantastic.
I preordered the game a few days ago. Amazon has got to stop giving me $10 credits for games. I got 10 from Mass Effect, and I'll get 10 from Bioshock....it never ends. I'm screwed.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS GAME.
I know there are a lot of reasons not to be, but I am going to throw off skeptical games consumer hat into the ocean just this once. I loved the first one, and this trailer was amazing. Let me enjoy this, please.

While I believe BioShock to be a superior game and also believe that BioShock 2 will deliver the same, if not better experience, is anyone going to wait in line at midnight for BioShock 2? It doesn't really scream, midnight release to me.

Bioshock 2 is shaping up to be an amazing game and we will find out in a few days just how amazing it is the only thing that is niggling at me is the multiplayer, whether it will prove to be a clever inclusion that really pushes this game to the top or a rushed taped on extra that will die out quickly, only time will tell.
