According to a purported Square Enix employee résumé, Final Fantasy XIV could follow the multiplatform trajectory of its older MMO sibling, Final Fantasy XI. Before being removed mere hours ago (following the proliferation of the apparent reveal within), the supposed LinkedIn profile of lighting designer Yuuki Akama referenced work on Final Fantasy XIV for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Only the PC and PS3 platforms have been officially confirmed for the company's upcoming online RPG.
While a "Yuuki Akama" has been credited with previous Square Enix work, specifically, lighting work for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, we can't currently confirm whether or not the pulled profile was authentic. We've contacted Square Enix for an explanation as to why the Akama profile was pulled (and not simply "adjusted") and for comment on the possible Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIV.

Nah.
Now the 360 fanboys will actually be interested in it.

If any fanboys were truly excited about a Final Fantasy MMO being a PC/PS3 exclusive then... well I don't have any words for that. It's just silly.
I could really care less what system gets which FF game, so long as none of the future ones are gimped in an attempt to "be fair" to one of the systems.

I just wish all of the platforms, whichever they may be, would be able to do cross platform play.
Would be nice to be able to solidify all three communities into one.
Of course, it'll never happen.

Not surprised. But I did thought they chose PS3 and PC because of the harddrives, since not every 360 has a hard drive. But I may be wrong.
But good for 360 owners! I hope for some cross platform playing here, because on MMO's, the more players, the better.

Of course it's coming to 360. In fact, "Project Rapture" (FF14's codename) originally STARTED as a 360-exclusive project. Considering it was developed on the Crystal Tools engine, it's actually PC/PS3/360 cross-compatible (as well as Wii, oddly, though I don't know how that would work).
The only thing holding this back are negotiations with Microsoft for this game accessing the Internet without requiring an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Not the non-guarantee of a hard drive, DVD space restrictions, etc. Just the Live negotiations. The ball is basically in Microsoft's court.

Why did you get downvoted for that? The usual fanboys were quick to enter this thread and *say* this doesn't mean much, but their actions say differently.

When MS steals exclusives, they tend to get them out at the same time. Sony's the ones who steal exclusives like a year after they already came out when no one cares anymore.

The truth is Sony stopped playing the spending game when it came to 3rd party exclusives. They refocused on new IPs whose destiny they could control and let the third party chips fall where they may. Microsoft deserves credit for burning through money like water to gain marketshare. They've spent a lot of money on exclusive marketing campaigns, exclusive DLC and pouring money into their feature set. But, it won't guarantee them any loyalty in the future and as we've seen the game can completely change from generation to generation.
I bet the amount of cash they've spent to secure exclusivity is in the hundreds of millions if not more. I wonder if its been worth it?

Sony doesn't steal exclusives; they just wait for Microsoft's deals to expire. Sony gets Microsoft scraps when the general public no longer cares about them, but it usually gets them with extra content for those of us who play the wait and see game. as a result they've managed to build a respectable number of in-house developed games that are genuine exclusives.
Microsoft gets the initial Only-On buzz with what are ultimately timed exclusives. this probably effects 360 sales positively, but i'm still unconvinced that it pushes 360 over PS3 worldwide. in-house development definitely tends to suffer on the 360 though.
its really up in the air whose stragegy works best. as a PS360 owner i win either way. i'll leave the brand-loyalty for the clowns.

The PC version will still be the absolute best one anyway, so anyone actually waiting on the 360 version for however long it takes to be made instead of just getting it on PC (which they are likely using to read Joystiq) isn't making the best choice for MMO playing anyway.
Playing FFXI with a PS2 Logitech wireless controller on my computer was fun, though, so at the very least I hope I can use my wired 360 controller on the PC for this next game. I'd love that in so many ways. Most legal.

When I put the disc in my 360, I know for a fact it will work.
My pc is not good, so there's a good chance the game will not work when I put it in. That's the main reason why I would consider 360 first.

Without trying to sound douchey, the PC *technically* would be the best platform to play this on (as long as you have a capable machine). And this coming from someone who is primarily a console gamer, though I do have a gaming-capable PC.
It doesn't require a Live subscription (or even a free PSN account), and the graphics would be 1080p or above, while the console versions are capped at 720p (any game developed on the Crystal Tools engine renders at 720p on the PS3 and 360, even FF13 and FFvs13). Plus you'll have your keyboard and mouse.
I guess it's all a matter of preference and the keyboard/mouse/Internet won't really be a factor, but you'll only get higher-than-720p resolution on the PC version.

Well this is one step to getting me to buy it, but I still need to see how it plays. If it's anything like 11 I'm staying as far away from it as possible....11 was beyond terrible, specially for someone who was playing WoW at the time.

You're down-voted for the douchey PS3 fanboy remark, but it's basically true.
The only thing holding back the 360 version are negotiations for this game to run on 360 without requiring Xbox Live Gold. And "Project Rapture" originally began as an Xbox 360 project.

Seems like a no brainer, though I wouldnt get my hopes up just yet, nothing has been confirmed yet, though I expect the news will come eventually, these days, there is little to moan about regarding limitations of XBL, it has been greatly expanded and developed since.
I do hope they have cross platform gameplay, I would like to play against my friends no matter which console I'm on, of only the consoles enabled you to do that.

Didn't SE say after the Sony presser at E3 that it could come to 360 eventually? I'm calling it now: timed exclusive on PS3, same as Splinter Cell on 360.
We don't even know if this is true but if it is they'd pull it because of an exclusivity embargo like the Fallout & GTA DLC had.

This game will offer cross platform play because it will be running off Square Enix's servers. I forgot the name of the new one. FF XI ran off the PlayOnline servers which allowed PC, PS2, and 360 to play together. Best of all, FFXI on 360 allowed you to play online with just a silver account.

Anybody expecting a project as big as FF14 to stay exclusive in this day and age is deluding themselves. These are big budget projects, it's in Square's best interest to have as wide a distribution channel as possible to get that money back! Just be patient X360'ers... I'm pretty confident you'll be able to jump into FF14 too. Sure it may not be at launch, but it's coming.
as for me.. I'll be there opening day on my PC.

But I wouldn't be shocked if they did manage to get fourteen on the 360 on launch day. If microsoft doesn't want to lose money to Sony, they need to help it along for whatever Squeenix needs for it to be ready on launch day.
