If the "Madden Curse" is the unflapping revenge exacted by the fowl spirit of the Great Turducken, its devoured body unceremoniously carved up by the bare hands of John Madden on national television those many years ago (seriously, go wikipedia that joint), then the annual "Madden NFL Super Bowl Simulation" is just ... plain math.
In the latest case of crunching the numbers, Madden 10 has predicted the New Orleans Saints to be winners of this Sunday's Super Bowl XLIV over the Indianapolis Colts. It was a real nail biter, EA recalls: "with minutes left in the game the duo of Joseph Addai and Peyton Manning put the Colts back on top with a go-ahead touchdown pass. With the game hanging in the balance, Drew Brees hits David Thomas for an 11-yard touchdown and the game winning score." The final: 35-31.
But more intriguing than the projected outcome of a mere sporting event is EA Sports' coveted simulation formula, which has become scary good. Not only did it correctly predict the winners of the conference championship games a few Sundays ago within a three-point margin of error, according to EA Sports, the formula accurately played out last year's Super Bowl down to the final score and individual player stats, which begs the question: What can't it predict?
We'd like to put a request in to EA to simulate next week's retail showdown: BioShock 2 vs. Dante's Inferno. Place your bets now!

Why does everyone on JS have to HATE something? Would be refreshing to hear someone say: "I like both ___ and ___ so I have no idea how to call this!"

Yeah I was worried for a while that the Vikings were going to win that game. I literally could not put up with 2 more weeks of ESPN slurping that douchebag, asshole Brett Favre.
The last couple minutes of that game + overtime were glorious for me. Like I told my friends in the beginning of the year and throughout the season when he was playing good: it's Brett Favre. Sooner or later, he will cost the team their season.
Then when it looks like they're going to win by a field goal, he throws a ridiculously stupid INT and they lose in OT. I can't even explain how happy that game made me.

Oddly enough, though I too despise Favre, I was pulling for the Vikings in the NFC Championship. They were more likely to beat the Colts and they would have won if Peterson could hold on to the fricking ball.

Die Hard Viking fan here. I don't wanna hear any trash about Brett causing the Vikings that game. The Vikings would not have gotten a bye or passed the first round without him. Besides, it was the fumbles that caused them to lose. Brett had a bad game, but so did most of the offense especially Adrian who had 3 fumbles (The botched hand-off went to Brett, but Adrian admitted it was his fault). Thinking back it's a crazy they had 28 points and forced overtime in the first place. Not to mention the coach's mistake with the 12th man in the huddle penalty that brought us out of field goal range before that interception (he called two different plays and did not clarify which was going to be called). It's stupid to say you knew he was going to cost them the game after the season he had, setting career bests and almost every stat possible, and at 40 freaking years old. That is just holding onto the past and your own hate for Brett which played no part into the game.

There's nothing more frustrating than writing a huge long reply, specially about why I hate Brett Favre and think he's the most overrated QB in history...only to be swatted down by a Joystiq "You Did It!" error

I'm football agnostic (I don't give a damn who is playing as long as the game is good), borderline football atheist, I'm close to just giving up on the sport after all the crap that's been going on the past few years.
He swaggers around like he owns the place, especially with those various tiffs he had with the coach this season. Farve has the arrogance to believe he can be a no huddle QB. He just isn't that smart, few are (Manning is one of those rare cases), and this attitude showed in the playoffs. No one knew who was calling the shots. Sure, you can blame the coach for this sort of thing for not asserting his position, but who exactly is the back office going to support, the coach or the multi-million dollar talent? Farve knew that and bit off way more than he could chew. Raw talent only goes so far before being outplayed and out classed by the competition (Saints). He lacks the humility to realize that he's just good, not great. I'm also one that doesn't hang his hat on what people say, it's what people do, and Farve acts incredibly arrogant, both on and off the field. He barely cracks the top 20 greatest QBs, let alone being an elite among the best.
Farve is just too old to be able to salvage greatness. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. Farve thinks he belongs in the rafters with the likes of Unitas and Montana, that's why I don't like the man.

Diehard Vikes fan here, even though I don't live in MN anymore. Britfar is a douchebag asshole, I've never liked him, and I'm still steamed that sack of garbage came to my squad. While Britfar did to some extent cost us the game, he certainly doesn't deserve all the blame. And yeah yeah, we likely wouldn't have gotten that far without him, big whoop. Now we're in for another offseason where Britfar is going to dick us around and then finally decide to come back midway through the preseason.

I'll make a condensed version.
First, I'm not a fan of any of those teams. I'm a bronco fan, and one of the best moments of my sporting life is not just them winning 2 super bowls, but that one of them was against Favre.
Favre is a mediocre QB at best. He has 1 super bowl, the same as Trent Dilfer, and he won it when I was in elementary school against a mediocre opponent (drew bledsoe? lol). When he went up against a true all time great in the super bowl he lost.
He has padded stats because he just slings the ball down field all the time, which is also why he is the ALL TIME LEADER in interceptions. His extremely poor decision making is some of the worst of all time, and literally just about every year his horrible desicion making costs his teams their season.
As for his ranks in the all time QB list, he is near the very bottom, only above Dan Marino because of the 1 super bowl. He is just below Peyton Manning because yes Peyton will eventually pass all the stats, but even if he doesn't win another super bowl he is a far better QB in terms of running an offense than Favre could ever hope to be.
Brett Favre is a hick with a strong arm, not a very good actual QB.

Damn, through all that and I forgot to mention the most important part.
He sabotages his teams eveyr year in ways that would make even TO jealous. He brings chaos to his team every offseason because he holds them in lingo until August...not because he doesn't know if he'll be back, but because the lazy diva doesn't want to practice or go to training camp.
Then in the season, the first time a coach wants him to do something he doesn't feel like he should do he throws bitch fits in the locker room...which convienetly ALWAYS leak out to the media, which brings ANOTHER circus atmosphere to the team, distracting them from their goals.

LaughingTarget you entire post holds no water. I've seen him post game in the locker room and he has never done anything to justify what you are saying. He just likes to play ball. He is the Iron-man of the sport. That is why people like him and people say he is good. He never went against what the coaches said. That incident in Carolina he was being ASKED to sit for his health. The coach gave him a choice to sit and he wanted to keep playing. Watching the Vikings all my life I can tell you we don't run a no-huddle offense period unless it's the two-minute drill or we have consecutive plays in place. He has called various audibles but that is why we got him. So he can read defenses and make plays.

Brett Favre is as an amazing football player as he is a person. There's an old saying in the surfing world where we say, "the best surfer is the one having the most fun."
The same can be said about Favre, "the best football player, is the one having the most fun." Watching him play is like watching a high school or junior football game. He's the first one with his arms up, smile on his face after a touch down or a big play, running to celebrate with his teammates. He's the one out there not only working his ass off, he's the one having fun and enjoying every second. He might be in it for the paycheck but you NEVER see that with his demeanor on and/or off the field. He's the reason why football is exciting and has been exciting, at least for me, for the past 14 years (this coming from a 49er fan).

Hopefully the simulation's right. It seems like everytime, in recent years at least, that the media and general public seem to think 1 team is heavily favored (the colts this time), they always lose.
I remember that it was impossible for the Patriots to beat the Rams. That there was no way the Giants could stop 19-0. That the Cardinals stood no chance of winning (well ok, they did lose..but it was on the last drive at least).
Everyone also thinks it's going to be a shootout because of the great offenses on both teams. That just means it's going to be a 13-7 game :P

I'm hoping for The Saints, but if I were a betting man, I'd go with Manning.
Watching that trailer, it's sad how not very far sports games have come. It seems the more real they try to be, the more they look like robots. I understand it's partly due to the NFL having such tight restrictions on showing distinct personalities; but as the 'graffix' get stronger, the scripted motions become more and more apparent.

I say Saints 28 Colts 21....which I would LOVE. Been a saints fan since 2000 and the admittedly non-glory days of Aaron Brooks. Glad to see they're finally in the Super Bowl. As for Bioshock 2 vs Dante's Inferno, I think Bioshock 2 will be a great game, and I sure hope the reviews convince those still on the fence to buy it. After playing the demo for Dante's Inferno, I don't think it will be a good game and I don't think that it will do too well in sales.

I've lost interest in football recently. I didn't really pay much attention to it this year so I don't really know how good either team is, (Besides the Colts winning a few years ago). Having said that, I still watch because all my friends and family do and my sister is a Colts fan, so I guess I'm rooting for the Colts.
Bioshock 2 vs. Dante's Inferno? EA would definitely say Dante's Inferno.

Saints could barely beat a team that held the ball like it was dipped into the Exxon Valdez Oil slick, yet some how they will beat the Colts?
I remember this insanity happened here in New York cause the Jets beat the Chargers. I mean what about the Colts keeps making people believe Okay teams can beat them. It probably only pisses the Colts off at that, thus only giving them more incentive to kick the crap out of their opponent.

You did not watch the game, obviously, because the whole game was clean. You, like so many other Americans just did not want to see brett on his back. the minute you noticed it you cried foul. Face it, what cost the vikings the game was favre's pass and adrian's fumbles. It was a clean game.
Its annoying to see people who hate a team because they are actually winning. We call that hating. You should see a doctor for that hate.

This is why the Saints won. STOP ACTING LIKE YOU WATCH FOOTBALL. YOU ARE NOT INTO FOOTBALL.

Y'know, the play that the NFL officiating office said SHOULD of been a penalty, because it was a late hit at the knees?
That was a clean hit, indeed.
I hope, I PRAY, Brees get hit low and gets taken out of the game. I then hope the Saints lose the Superbowl by 4+ TDs.

that pretty much sums up our year. so my prediction 31-24 SAINTS win and burbon st and the rest of the state of LA will be partying until next season starts.

While I was originally rooting for the Colts just because I dislike the Saints (I'm a Jets fan), I have to admit I'm shifting my thoughts on this one. I think I want the Saints to win but not for any football reasons, per se. Non-disclosure clause here but, at the same time, I don't really care who wins but I will run my own Madden 10 Superbowl "test" to see if the Saints win because this site is not the first one to have done the Madden 10 prediction with the same Saints winning outcome.
I just look forward to having fun at the Bowl party I will be at this Sunday.

I ran my own Madden 10 simulation, and it came out with the Colts winning 28-24. And I really want the Colts to win. The Saints have played dirty football (not to mention the refs giving the Saints the game in OT) in the last two games to get to where they are. Their success sees the ending of two QB careers. Warner and Favre.
I had actually wanted to see the Colts vs. Saints in the Super Bowl (preferably both undefeated, but either way, they were definitely both the division leaders), but after seeing how the Saints were playing against the Vikings, it was clear that they were just trying to injure Favre as much as possible. So I started rooting for the Vikings to win. I'll admit that the turnovers were bad on the part of Minnesota, but 5 turnovers by Minnesota, and the game ends regulation in a TIE? That sure sounds like impotence on the part of New Orleans, if you ask me.
