@Dr.Tea.Bag

"theoretically" enable head tracking with the Playstation Eye.

means that they can possibly do it just not sure if they will or not

He's confused! Why would a dev limit the Natal approach for a game to accommodate the PS Eye?

Is Natal not as revolutionary as Greenberg makes it out to be? :0

OMG, think about how crazy it would be if they had first person games like that!!! games like need for speed shift, or maybe an FPS

thanks. it would be awsome to see this stuff in normal first person games, with maybe an option of turning it off. I can't imagine how much better this could make a game like doom, or another thriller game. this could truly make it feel like your in the game. this plus 3D would be the ultimate experience

okay can anyone please explain to me the picture because I don't understand how head tracking would enable you to be able to see someone ram you. I just don't get the picture which motor cyclist is about to ram you? Oh and yes this is a serious question, I just really don't get the picture lol.

Well, theoretically, the camera would recognize you turning your head and adjust the display accordingly. Of course, now you'd be looking behind you and not at the TV, so you wouldn't know that the view had changed.

all you would have to do is look to the side and your guy would look that way. just like if you were in a car or on a bike and you went to look and see if something was next o you so you can move over a lane

Or...You lean sideways rather than look away from the TV. That's how I'd imagine doing it.

man, all this "you have to buy 80 attachments" thing is starting to give me a headache

We're all going to look back in shame on our cardboard box full of 90 control methods and wonder what we were thinking, as we shelf them next to to the Genesis with a 32x sticking out of it.

If you hate motion controls, fine.

But you aren't ALLOWED to hate head tracking. It's going to be amazing!

And you don't have to take my word for it. Just ask Johnny Lee!

I love watching that tech demo. I feel like the headtracking would make the controller free gaming something good (compared to if it was solely controller free). Though I think current games would have a lot of applications for it too.

Are they serious? I have a 50" TV and i don't sit 30cm in front of it, there is still no way that i have to turn my head to see the edge of the screen.

This won't help unless NATAL is going to magically move the physical screen along with my head movement.

It's usually not 1:1 ... I understand the way it works is that you might move your head 30 degrees but the in game camera moves 60.

Its great for racing games and flight sims. Its a little odd at first but really useful when you get used to it.

If you have a wiimote you can make your own setup for cheap(pc game)

Actually, that's a worse site to learn from--unless you like forums w/ little to no activity, confusing instructions, and misleading information on both the necessary components to complete it and the total cost. I created a FT setup, and I ended up needing quite a few more "ingredients" to make it work than I was lead to believe. And then it didn't work worth a crap. When I tried a TrackIR, it worked out of the box, with far superior performance.

yes, your head would turn left to look left in game but only a tiny amount. You can still maintain your eye on the screen. Its like a really sensitive mouse, a little input goes along ways.

that naturalpoint link is a good place to see the potential of head tracking. natal will be awesome for head tracking, Minority Report-style control of windows media center, and for wii-style games. that's what i want natal for. they can dump all the other ambitious goals for all i care.

sounds a bit bleak to me, if i turn my head my eyes naturally follow and i can no longer see the tv

while it's obviously possible to turn ones head and keep eyes on the tv it doest feel very natural and you try turning both ways one after the other doing that, even more uncomfortable

this would be great with a vr headset type thing but for me as useless as a inflatable dartboard

Motion scaling makes all the difference in the world. Once you get used to it (took me about 2 hours), it's like riding a bike.

so let me get this right... you look away from the screen and the camera pans in that direction... right... even if you just move your head slightly in one direction and keep your eyes in the same place and the camera pans it gonna be one hell of a sick inducing effect...

it seems like a lot of people are making negative comments without actually trying it out. head tracking is really easy and you do it all the time in real life. if you have a problem with head tracking, it's time to visit a neurologist.

just look outside your window at any object. then move your head around. your eyes won't follow your head. of course it follows the object you're looking at.

I had TrackIR for the PC and it was awesome, it feels so natural.

For those that don't understand you only move your head a little and you are still looking at the screen but it really feels like you are looking fully behind you.

I had IL2 Sturmovik (Combat flight Sim) and you would almost think it was real. Imagine strafing a row of tanks and as you fly above them, tilt a wind down and look out over the wing to see if you have hit them.

Or constantly tracking an enemy plane as it flies above or behind you.

Also with Track IR in games such as Microsoft Flight Sim you could move your head sideways to look around the control stick at the dials behind it and even zoom in and out by moving your head backwards and forwards.

I even showed a friend how I could lean out of a cessna window and look down at the landing gear.

If Natal is anywhere near this I can't wait.

this is a feature I was hoping would debut on the Wii. I figured you'd be able to drive with the nunchuck and be able to use the wiimote to look around. It would take some getting used too and require some skill....and prolly a couple more cubes taped on there....

cool stuff. we're almost to the future.

For those asking how you would still see the screen if you turned and looked, consider this.

Of course, you'll only move your head a little bit in real life to turn a lot in the game. Now, that may sound weird thinking about it while sitting here at your computer, but really think about it.

Think about how many times you, or someone you were watching, has moved in real life just out of instinct to dodge something on screen. You're playing a first person shooter and a rocket is coming straight for you. You have (or seen someone) ducked in real life just out of instinct. Now, you're not ducking enough to *actually* dodge the rocket if it were coming at you in real life, but imagine if that subtle duck or dodge you did in real life while sitting on your couch mimicked a full duck or dodge in the game.

Which would in turn mean you would have to sit absolutely still during all other gameplay as to not offset the subtle movement queues? Doesn't seem promising.

Maybe, but I would assume it would be easy enough for the game to differentiate your intent based on acceleration. When you duck or dodge from something coming at you (or that you think is coming at you since it's on the screen) you move a lot faster than when you reach over to pick up a soda.

I don't have enough faith in developers to pull that kind of stuff off. If the majority of them couldn't (i.e. STILL can't) get the Wii Remote down quite right, let alone motion plus, I see them fumbling Natal worse than Tiki Barber running the football.

Tiki Barber changed the way he carried the ball in 2004 and ended up having some of the best ball security in the league after that ;)

That he did. He was also a New York Giant. Go Cowboys.

Although I DO like how he took up a personal vendetta against the organization as soon as he joined the media after his playing days.

Too bad his reputation will always be "the guy would fumble so much Tom Coughlin made it a point to coach him up on a new way to hold the ball so he wouldn't fumble so much anymore" or something along those lines.

Actually, it already exists (and has for like 7 or 8 years). PC only though. Certainly a viable product already, as the unit on top of my monitor would attest to.
