Are you somewhat satisfied with your Star Trek Online avatar, but wish he or she possessed more unsightly forehead ridges? Perhaps you desire a pair of ears shaped and sized like funnel cakes? Do you wish it looked like your brain was attempting to escape out of the top of your head? Good news -- the Federation Ferengi race can now be downloaded in-game for 80 Cryptic Points, which translates to a shiny half-dollar in real-world funds.
Federation players also have the option to download what we can only assume to be a reformed species of Klingon for 240 Cryptic points, or $1.50. We're still unsure as to why anyone would play Star Trek Online and not make their own race, since we wouldn't find the game so compelling without the adventures of Barbicane, the only surviving Bonerian in the galaxy.

£40 for the game, and then £50 every six months and they also expect you to purchase small bits of DLC on top of that?

This is why Star Trek fans don't deserve money.

Your conversions are a bit off - it's $1 for the Ferengi, and $3 for the Klingon - same conversion rate as MS points.

Can you be a female Ferengi? They are forced into nudity. Should be interesting.

(pushes glasses up onto nose bridge) Um, excuse me but did you guys not see the last two seasons of DS9 which clearly illustrated the cultural shifts to a more egalitarian Ferengi society? This was due to no small effort of Quark’s mom, who was dating the Grand Nagus, and more or less influenced his decisions on state rule.
Therefore, it is highly likely that in the decade following the events of Star Trek: Nemesis, Ferengi society could have become much more open to women in business and women in clothes.

Some women pay thousands of dollars to look ugly in real life while believing they're beautiful. Paying $3 to look like a hot kind of ugly klingon girl virtually seems like a nice deal XD

Oh, and from what I read, Ferengi were selectable in early parts of the beta. So they were removed specifically to make them DLC.

I want to start a boycott to protest the growing use of microtransactions in games if only because it seems to be leading to reduced content at release. How long before all that you get for $50 or $60 is an empty world and a generic avatar (a la Snow Crash)? Then, you have to pay $10 for a face/body, $5 for clothes (one outfit), $2 - $20 for quests/missions/whatever, $5 for each level above the only one that shipped with the game ... and so forth. Oh, and the $15 (soon to be $20?) monthly fee.
I understand the publishers'/devs' desire to monetize things this way because apparently enough of the sheep blindly buy into it to make it worthwhile, but enough is enough.

The stupid thing here is that the GAME IS ALREADY MONETIZED.
In DDO, I understand the need and motivation for micro-transactions. It's their business model. Guild Wars is looking for a little extra scratch for upkeep. But ST:O already charges $15/month. Adding microstransactions to that, especially with the game being new, is a downward spiral I don't want to be in on. Especially since the content is obviously trivial.

I'm not sure why you guys feel the need to resort to some convoluted, long-winded explanation about "cultural shifts to a more egalitarian Ferengi society" to simply explain the lack of a nude option for female Ferengi officers when a much simpler explanation already exists.
Section 24, subsection 7, paragraph 2 of the Federation Dress Code Handbook clearly states that no individual may appear nude on the bridge of any Federation vessel unless so ordered by the captain [or in the captain's case, by any superior officer]. I think this would clearly supersede any cultural leanings of any individual Federation officer.

Actually, DS9 already explained female Ferengi being clothed.
After Ishka and Zek got together, she started influencing Ferengi policy, including wearing clothes in public.

So let me get this straight, you want us to pay for your shit game, and you want us to pay a monthly subscription to your shit game. Now you want us to pay MORE to play as a species that really should have been included in the overall package?
I love Star Trek, and I was hopeful that a strong MMO would be a good push for the franchise (just like the solid movie outing was last year). I was hoping that a successful MMO might bring enough love back to Star Trek for Paramount to bring back the franchise to TV... but no, Cryptic took the franchise and shitted on it, making a terrible game. I hope this game bombs and Cryptic goes out of business, those idiots have zero talent. Maybe Paramount can convince Activision/Blizzard to forgo a World of Warcraft sequel to develop a new and better Star Trek MMO.
