The vice president in charge of "Southern Europe" (read: Spain, Portugal) at Sony Computer Entertainment isn't a man to mince words. No sir, James Armstrong answered his recent interview question from Canarias Al Dia on the subject of Gran Turismo 5's release date with rock solid certainty: "We believe that we will launch the product this Autumn, before the holiday, though this hasn't been decided yet" [our translation].
Alright, so Armstrong wasn't exactly 100 percent nailing down a date for the game that's been delayed more than a few times (Sony most recently pushed back its Japanese release to an unknown date). However, it is nice to see someone at Sony saying the sim might actually see release before the end of this console cycle. Oh, and in case you were wondering, he also puts doubt on the use of Sony's Motion Controller in the game, so at least we've got that knowledge to console us in the meantime.

It better be the best racing game ever concieved, since by the time it comes out (assuming that it actually does hit this fall) it will have been almost 6 years.

The 'wait' seems disproportionate to the 'good'.
At this point, I don't give a shit: Split/Second (will be) my racing game of choice.

Criterion are the guys who make Burnout, but they are published by EA. EA has them making the next Need for Speed due out this Fall. Last year was a sim-like NFS racing game, this year will be an arcade NFS racing game. They will alternate every other year now. I think it's a good idea. For me personally, Burnout 3 was the peak of the series.

Driving real life cars is for grownups. If I wanted to drive around inside the lines, not being able to crash into things and causing giant explosions, I sure as heck don't want that boring experience sitting on my couch. I 'drive nice' on my way to work every day. When I am sitting on my ass in front of the TV, I want ACTION! Gran Turismo is about as exciting as my morning commute to work. You can have it.

At least you understand. GT is really boring for people who want explosions and machine gun racing. I think I want both. I want GT and I want Burnout Paradise whatever.
GT 3 and 4 and Forza 3 really are a great idea, and GT 5 will probably be fantastic if it ever comes out, but it's more of a European game. It's about setup and skill and patience, not rad missiles and killing bad guys. To each his own.
There's a reason people prepare for real racing with GT and probably Forza. If that means nothing to you, of course you shouldn't buy it.

A less troll-y response:
I think it's ridiculous to call something the definitive anything until after it's been released and played. Right now all we really have to go by is that awful physics demo on the PSN. I'm sure GT5 will be good whenever it comes out but It's absurd to praise it as the best of the best when we don't even have a solid release date (or even month!) yet.

Christmas is practically 2011.
Hurry the hell up already! This is a Summer game and should come out before July. I might cancel my pre-order just out of spite.

Seriously, before Fall? This is becoming bullshit now.
6 years is a long time to wait.
I am becoming tired of DiRT2 and other racers ; I want a true simulation that is going to keep me going for years (hopefully).
GT5 was a big selling point for the PS3 when it first arrived, yet - the game never arrived, and is still not arriving. Come on Sony/Polyphony, pull your bloody finger out.

You're probably the most defensive fanboy I've ever seen. A racing game has taken nearly 6 years to come out, that re-uses almost every mode and feature from the last full game. It's inexcusable to have taken this long.

Alan Wake has turned into a racing game? Holy shit. I'm actually interested in it now.

First of all, Alan Wake is not a racing game that re-uses a lot of modes and features. There's a *bit* more to the game than that.
Plus, you're knocking Alan Wake, which has a firm release date now..April 12. The damn thing's going to be out at least 6 months before GT5, and you're going to knock that?

i got a ps3 around november of last year and even i am to the point of not caring anymore just because i have the read all of the news of how many times this has been delayed. they are definitely not gaining any potential customers by delaying and i would almost say they are losing some.

Why is everyone always so defensive? I didn't say that Xbox doesn't have such games (Alan Wake, anything Halo, etc.) or the Wii doesn't have them either (next Zelda game, anyone?). Sheesh!

No kidding. GT5 has PS3 owners strung along for at least the past 2 years. I'll be picking GT5 up when it comes out, but am glad I have a 360 for Forza. Especially after the horrid GT time trial demo. They probably went back to the drawing board just based on the reaction to that alone.
Zommari: April 13th for Alan Wake. And if that was 2012, I could care less. How are the other PS3 racing sims you are playing right now? Oh, sorry. There aren't any...

and all this time I thought they made Forza 3 more accessible to the non hardcore racing game fan O.o while also being able to keep its edge. I should have known it got its reviews solely from its amazing assortment of colors to paint my car.

I meant fun, Forza 3 was not fun to play. To get any of the decent cars you have to devote your life to repetitve and boring circuits. Kaido was alright but that was about it.
Another problem was that the game was made for the painters and the tuners. I know people who can make tons of money from selling painted cars, but to make an equivalent amount of money racing would take days of racing. All in all they could have made the game a little better for the people who bought it to have fun doing what it is advertised as, a racing game.
